The room was very spacious overlooking the back and so super quiet. The bedding was very comfortable and the bathroom very large. Pension very good for a stay close to Lyon.
The spa closes in the evening at 19v which is early following your arrival time.

I had the chance to stay several times in this beautiful Inn.
The suites are beautiful, the spa amazing, the breakfast exceptional, the park bucolic, I will lack superlative to qualify the services of this Pension. All the staff is very careful, it is always a great pleasure to spend a few days at the rotunda pavilion.
If I had to make a single criticism it was the restaurant.
I grew up with Chef Gauvreau’s cuisine, then I grew old with Chef Malle’s , not having a proper restaurant in the rotunda pavilion is really a huge disappointment. The brasserie is okay but it will not replace a real gourmet restaurant.

We have been about 6 or 7 times to this hotel for an overnight stopover to the South of France.
We booked direct, but were not advised that there were extensive building works in progress.

The current Trip advisor descri'tion reads......The hotel is located in the heart of an elegant landscaped park. This "Park' and the adjacent Casino building are now undergoing major improvement works!

The Hotel itself internally is still maintaining high standards and we had to have room service as the restaurant is closed on Tuesdays, Normally, the room service is exceptionally slow but tonight it arrived within 20 minutes of ordering. Very large portions and it was delicious.

The wine prices are a bit steep with a bottle of room service Rully premier cru priced at €70.00. It was either that or the Viognier, which I can't stand, at €55.00. For a high class Hotel, the wine list leaves a lot to be desired.

The Suites are large and comfortable with most things one would expect.

With the building works going on parking, which was limited, is now almost non existent at the Hotel and you now need to leave your car some distance away in a huge car park adjacent to the Casino. Not an ideal arrangement if you have an expensive car as there appears to be no security there.

Would I go back ? Not until the building works are completed.

On the plus side: the staff is very friendly. The spa is nice, the pool large enough to do some lengths. The breakfast buffet offers a wide choice for all tastes. The bedding is good. The location a few meters from the Casino and the park is ideal.

On the negative side: You are helped to carry luggage on arrival but not on departure when there are 2 behind the counter to discuss. But the real problem lies in the ageing of the property, which requires urgent renovation. Old carpet (better not be allergic). Old shower with very bad smells from a fixed wooden bench that rots (at least in our suite). No towel heater (Acova or other) in the bathroom. So it is cold after the shower (October) and it is impossible to dry your bath towels. When you stay for several nights, you are obliged to have your towels replaced every day. Not green and it costs the establishment money. Do we not understand?? There is no logic in this respect. As for cleaning, it is approximate. Dust on furniture, dirty little fridge!

In summary this is a shame because this property has a big potential but is clearly not up to a 5 star rating. They should be aware of this because the prices are rather aligned on a 4 star. But even in a 4-star hotel you don't freeze in the bathroom. As for hygiene, each one its criteria, right!

The spa area is interesting:
Pretty pool with jacuzzi (medium)
The hammam/sauna and the changing rooms are a little tired; it would be a good idea to refresh them
Good quality massages
The hotel is disappointing because it does not offer the essential services in a 5-star
Reception is seriously unprofessional
Rooms on the mezzanine floor tastefully renovated and with a beautiful surface on the other hand NO SOUNDPROOFING with the communicating adjoining room: you share the privacy of your immediate neighbors
We changed rooms and were relocated to the 2nd floor not renovated
The room was even bigger but again not at the height of a 5 star:
No heating in the bathroom (we requested an extra radiator)
Low pressure for shower with slow evacuation..
And the pinnacle: bug invasion in our room
Despite a cleaning there were still
Finally there also no soundproofing with the next room
And the astonishing reception: huge
Not great!!!
In summary disappointing considering the invoiced price of 350€ per night!!!

This hotel claims to be 5 star, it is one of the worst I have ever stayed in. It claims to have a Michelin star restaurant, but it was closed on the Tuesday night that we stayed. No alternative food was offered, just room service of cold salmon. The front desk were unhelpful, they could not recommend anywhere in the local village, luckily we found a superb Italian ourselves.the Wi-Fi is slow and continually drops out, the air conditioning didn’t work, the room was dirty (see photos). The car park is more than 400 metres away, all this for €250 a night, abysmal, no wonder the hotel was empty, we had traveled up from a 5 Star Hotel in St Tropez and we were horrified with this hotel, it’s total lack of customer service and it’s unfriendly feel. Only half the electric sockets work in the room, next door is a loud train, they give you earplugs !! And then building work wakes you up at 7.30am. It gets even worse, in the morning no breakfast on display, we are told we can only have items from room service menu as no one else stopping. At this point we got up and left, hungry and very distressed, I blame the hotel management, you should have closed the hotel and also Booking.Com, you should have been made aware. This has to be the worst hotel experience in my 59 year life, guessing being British didn’t help.

Response from Nelly BOYD, General Manager at Le Pavillon Hôtel & Spa
Responded Jun 13, 2023
Dear David C, We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us. We are always open to criticism if it reflects the truth and is being fair . Adjusting our service and behaviour depending on the nationality of our guests is a narrow minded suggestion that would not cross our mind. All the technical issues you have mentionned in your comments have been checked out and confirmed in working order. We do have a car park a mere 150 m away, Your car was nevertheless parked and unloaded by our staff just outside our front door. All our windows are double glazed, a local train does run every 30 mins , the latest one leaving at 8.30 pm. It does not usually affect our customers. Full a la carte breakfast was offered to all our guests that morning without any restriction on choice or quantity. Kind regards

The hotel itself is excellent, but infront of the Hotel, a very large extension to the casino is still underway and it is not a pretty sight.
Apart from that, we stayed in rooms on the mezzanine floor, which before this visit, I had no idea they even existed. Normally we have a suite on the first or second floor which overlooks the front of the building and the building works. This time we had rooms on the mezzanine floor, which is one floor down from reception. These rooms have just undergone a complete renovation with all new decoration and furniture and fittings. The rooms are really stylish, and overlook the rear gardens, which again I was unaware existed. There are nice side walks along the gardens which are ideal for exercising your dog ,If you happen to have one, as we did.
The restaurant has a totally confusing menu and there is little choice other than having a full blown meal of the chef's choosing and there seems to be only two real options at €99 or €132. We opted for the cheaper one, and if you like an arty farty selection of weird things it will probably suit you. The wine list is limited and we settled on a average Burgundy at €50, making the whole meal €254 which was a bit strong for what we actually had.
If you are only staying as a stop over, I would suggest giving the restaurant a miss and have room service.
For a stopover, the final bill came to €668.60 which included €60 for two dogs, tax and a pre dinner drink. We skipped breakfast as we made an early start but this would have added another €26 per person.
This was about our 10th visit over the years. Would I go back ? Yes, as overall it is excellent

The staff is very welcoming and attentive. The room was huge and the bedding super comfortable. The spa is also very good with indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna (we did not have time to test the treatments because stay only one night) but the products smell very good! Only downside: room service at night (we returned around 1am). Very long, and especially very expensive (relative to the quantity) and the requested von was no longer available (after 30 minutes) and was replaced (with our agreement) by a more expensive (no gesture....) Too bad...
But I still highly recommend this hotel!!!! If the opportunity arose, I'd go back!

A freezing morning
I accompanied my friend , who had been treated at the spa, on that freezing, rainy morning in December (14th). It was supposed to be a great time, but now... nothing's right!
We are in the first customers, and to begin with the dirt jumps out: hair in the bungalows, deckchairs and unwashed tables, tuft of hair in the changing rooms...
Then a short tour in the Jacuzzi, we think it’s cool but not too hot, we’ll try the hammam and there big disappointment! It does not work.
When we report it to the person in charge, she vaguely apologizes and tells us that she will start it. Okay , let's go to the sauna , mandatory shower before: only 1 shower has hot water!
Then the sauna is so lukewarm that we don’t sweat! (that’s usually the point!)
Well we decide to go into the pool until the steam room is operational. Here is the bouquet! The water is cold too , I can’t get in!!
It’s already time to care for my friend , I try the steam room again, warm . When a drop of cold water falls on me I decide to leave!!
I enjoy a hot shower before getting dressed.
When I reach the entrance the manager sends an adorable employee to serve me cuteness in compensation!!!
I didn’t know they were for me and my friend!
The latter will learn that the steam room was already not working the day before!
Berf! 50€ the shower is far too expensive!!!
The manager was not up to our disappointment...
