Following the Lonely Planet's advice, we went to Don Khon for our first night on Si Phan Don, because it was supposedly nicer and more calm than Don Det. Huge mistake! We went to Don Det the next day and headed to Mr. Phao's as a friend had recommended this place to us. We were immediately greeted by the amazingly...

We spent three...

If you want to avoid the main strip then this accommodation is in a quieter spot in a great setting with great river views in an enclosed compound. Mr Phao speaks good English and is easy going. His family help run the bungalows and restaurant and they do a good job. The bungalows are simple (as expected for the price)...

My girlfriend and I arrived quite late in the evening from Cambodia and it proved quite difficult to find a place. After passing full guesthouse after another, I came across Mr. Phao who is located a few kilometers from the boat landing, where the accommodation really starts to thin out on the way to Don Khon. The first time I...

Affordable, freindly and quiet. Good location.river front bungalows and restaurant and bar.very relaxing.they have a camp fire too.boat tours to the water falls were excellent. Was nice distance from the crowds of back Packers and bars but close enough if you want to be part of it

Everyone seems to stay here when they get to Don Det, we finished our Stray Asia tour here and were told it was good value. It wasn't very good, it had a fan but the bungalows get extremely hot and a fan doesn't quite do it justice! The beds are also sunken as they are quite old and not massively...

Stayed here in a bungalow for 3 nights. We booked online and they tried to charge us double the normal rate. They then agreed to just charge us the normal rate. The accommodation was clean and reasonable for the price (once we got it reduced). We asked about the buses to Cambodia and got assured it was 1 bus with...

We ended up spending 5 nights here, by accident (don't ask), but it was good value at 50k Kip per night for a room with own bathroom, and we really enjoyed our stay. As previous reviewers note the rooms are not sealed, in common with a great many of the accommodations on Don Det, but they are kept clean, mossie...

For only 50,000K a night, it's hard to complain. However, if you walk just a bit further south, about 1 km, you'll find an even better place for only 40,000K (River Garden). The bungalows are very basic, but that's what's to be expected. Slits in the wooden floors, large gaps in the ceiling area and openings in the bathroom let...

I spent 10 days at Mr. Phao's and wish I could have stayed longer! Clean and cheap bungalows overlooking the Mekong River. Each bungalow came with a balcony and hammocks which were great for watching the sunrise (stay on the other side of the island for sunsets) with toilets/shower just a few steps away. Be prepared to be woken up...
