My daughter and I stayed here for a couple days for a break on a visit to Canada from the UK it was an incredible experience we went fishing for a day out and my daughter caught an pike which was an amazing experience for her our guide Megan was amazing as we had a challenge from the men in another boat which of course we won we even stopped at an island and had lunch. The cabin we stayed in was spotless and the main lodge was spectacular so much to take in from the log fire to-the Bear in the corner every time you went in something different would catch your eye the food was amazing. I really enjoyed sitting around the fire pit in the evening hearing the Beavers splashing around it certainly was an amazing experience for us one we will never forget Thank-you Peter Tania and the team for making our stay and incredible one which we will never forget hopefully we will return very soon

We are six fishing buddies ranging in age from 58 to 75. As one can imagine we have different needs and wants.
These can be from having cabins that can accommodate us comfortably with ample living quarters, spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds.
Some of us are physically challenged and need convenient and easy access to boats as well as flat decking for boats. These boats are rather high end in terms of features for 16’ fishing boats. They have comfortable swivel seats with backs, live well with running water, bilge pumps and fish finder in every boat. The motors in their whole fleet are finely tuned and have an electric start. The boats are refuelled twice daily.
They have a number of cabins, including a newly renovated wheel chair accessible - check for details.
There are also extra off site, guided fishing excursions. As far as meals are concerned - they can accommodate any option you choose from three meals a day to a modified meal plan. We choose to be independent and cook our own meals in the relatively well equipped kitchen in our cabin.
Tina and Peter are wonderful hosts and if we needed something were very accommodating.
We’ve been here four of the last five years. It is really hard to find as good a value for the money. We will most likely be returning next year.

We did a four-night stay at Marten River Lodge at the end of September. Tania and Peter are fabulous hosts and provided absolutely wonderful hospitality during our stay. Cabin #5 was warm and very cozy, even on a couple of chilly nights. Our bed was very comfortable and the cabin was spotless. Screened porches are a bonus, even though this time of year there were not many insects. Our boat was in excellent condition and Peter had it gassed and ready to go every morning. In the evening he had the campfire lit and ready for all to enjoy. Tania is lovely and checked with us regularly to see if we needed anything. The lodge was open and had a nice fireplace if you felt like bringing a drink and playing pool, reading or watching TV. We went fishing every day, but didn't catch much even though minnows and worms were provided as part of the package. We probably should have had Peter give us a guided fishing tour. Overall, it was an amazing and relaxing stay - just what we came for! We'll definitely return to Marten River Lodge.

We went to the MRL on June 19 for the 6 night housekeeping package. We were greeted by the new owners Peter and his wife Tania. Super nice people and were very happy to help with the check in procedure and then a run thru the cottage and boats to make sure we knew everything before unpacking. Cottage was great, we had the 4 bedroom #8 cottage. Nice kitchen with everything we needed and a huge screened porch to sit out in the fresh air and avoid mosquitoes. We had our own fire pit that was restocked with wood every day by Peter and staff. Nice Adirondack chairs for everyone to sit around and talk about the days adventure. The boats were great, nice 16' boats with full floors and casting decks up front. They had a livewell to keep your fish or minnows fresh. The boats were gassed up every night so they were ready to go whenever you were. Fresh minnows or worms were also included in the cost of the stay as well as the boat gas. A couple days we were able to get 2 tanks of gas and take a long run to the farthest point at McPhee Lake to fish there. Every day at 4:00 there was an optional meet at the garage. There Peter and Tania opened their fridge of select beverages to anyone who came down and wanted to talk about the fish they caught or maybe the fish that got away. Was a great time and shared a bunch of laughs. Unfortunately with the COVID protocols we were unable to use the lodge facilities but did have a quick look. It was an impressive area to sit back and watch TV or shoot a game of pool or darts. When we go back we look forward to utilizing this. So to sum it all up, great hosts, great cottages and boats, awesome location and some good fishing. Whether you want a guys weekend or a family vacation there is something for everyone there.

I'll start by saying the cabin and the food were great. I found everyone to be very nice and accomodating. However, it seems to be more of a fishing destination than a bear hunting destination. Honestly I left a bit dissatisfied because the stand was not adequately brushed in, and I was not allowed to change stands. I was told they would bait 4 stands all summer. When I arrived I was told they had just stopped baiting three of those because there were no hits on the bait. I was allowed to hunt only 1 stand during my trip. On my first hunt I informed my guide (Jake was a great guide) on my way to the stand that I would like them to start running those other baits because if I didn't see anything on this stand I would want to move to another stand by midweek. I was told no, indirectly by the proprietor. When I sat in the stand for a bit I mentioned to my guide that it was void of cover except in the front of the blind. I had no cover behind me to allow my clothing to blend in. I was sihouetted against the sky from the front. Because there was no cover on the sides or behind, I was totally expeosed. After a few hours it is difficult to sit still but cover helps that a great deal. I told my guide the blind needed to be brushed in better. He did make some changes but I got the impression he was not allowed the time to do a good job of it. The back and much of the sides remained void of brush. I believe this resulted in a missed opportunity. I know there were bears there. I was sitting still enough to see a cow moose, her calf and a wolf not 20 yrds from the blind, just no bears. I also don't think there are many bears in Marten River. I was told only three bears hit my bait site and no other bait sites saw action (leading to them closing down the bait) all summer. From all of this I conclude that the proprietor is not a hunter. If he hunted he would have seen that the blind needed to be brushed in to provide some cover and not just tell me "it sounds like someone isn't sitting still enough in the stand". That may be true, but who can sit that still for 6 hours for 6 consecutive days? To me, he did not appear to be to concerned about the comfort or success of my hunt.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay and bear hunting experience at Marten River Lodge. We truly appreciate your honest assessment, as it helps us identify areas where we can improve our services and provide a better experience for our guests. First and foremost, we're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the cabin and food during your stay, and that you found our staff, especially your guide Jake, to be accommodating and friendly. We take pride in our hospitality and always aim to make our guests feel comfortable. We deeply regret that your bear hunting experience did not meet your expectations. We understand your concerns about the baiting process and the lack of adequate cover in the blind. Your feedback regarding the stand being insufficiently brushed in is invaluable to us, as it highlights an area where we can enhance the hunting experience for future guests. Regarding the limited number of active bait sites and the decision to stop baiting some of them, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. While we do our best to ensure successful hunts, wildlife behavior can be unpredictable, and we rely on the expertise of our guides to make the best decisions for our guests. We take your comments seriously and will use them to make improvements to our hunting program. As for your impression that the proprietor may not be a hunter, we appreciate your perspective. Our primary goal is to provide a positive and successful hunting experience for our guests, and we'll use your feedback to ensure that future hunts are more comfortable and productive. We want to emphasize that we value your feedback and are committed to improving our services. We are grateful for the opportunity to host you. Once again, we appreciate your feedback and thank you for choosing Marten River Lodge for your hunting adventure. We hope to have the chance to welcome you back in the future. Tania and Peter

We spent three nights at Marten River Lodge in Sept 2020. Upon arrival Ray gave us a detailed overview of the lodge, our boat, and the best local fishing spots. We used the full (American) meal plan and were glad we did. Every day we had a delicious hot breakfast (such as eggs, bacon and toast), a packed lunch, and a generous hot dinner (such as ribs, steak and spaghetti and meatballs). We were upgraded to a larger cabin, which gave us lots of extra room and was very clean, rustic and cozy. We booked a one day guided fishing trip which was the absolute highlight of our stay. Neil our guide, was friendly and knowledgeable, and we caught a nice collection of pike, walleye and bass. For those that are new to fishing the guides are able to help you with all you need (even hooking bait and cleaning the fish ...you can even rent rods and they have tackle for sale). Unfortunately, during our stay the guided fly-in fishing trips were already booked up so that’s already on our list for next year. Overall, the lodge is very friendly with an afternoon garage beer catch ups and music evenings. Marten River Lodge is a Fantastic getaway for couples, families and friends whether you are new to fishing or an old pro.

Hi DerbyRam. Thank you so much for your kind words and review. We delight in helping all of our guests enjoy their stay with us and hope we exceed expectations with every visit. Chef Peter prepares all of his meals with great care...you may leave a few pounds heavier but you'll never go hungry here! Lol! Neil, our guide, truly enjoys spending his days fishing with our guests, young and old, from novices to accomplished anglers, and sharing stories of the great outdoors. He truly is passionate about it. Our guided trips are very popular and book up well in advance. We'll do our very best to arrange a guided fly-in fishing adventure for your next visit. Glad you enjoyed the music and our afternoon social in the garage. It's a tradition here at MRL and we look forward to bending an elbow with you during your next visit. :)

We recently stayed here for a short 3 night getaway with my wife for our anniversary. After a quick miscommunication of which days we were attending Ray quickly upgraded us to a larger cabin then we would have had which was amazing. Way more space then needed but it was great. The cabins are clean, all of the amenities work flawlessly. The hot water is really hot and seemed to never run out! The screened in porches are just an amazing touch for night time when the bugs come out. We could sit out there and nothing was getting in. The grounds are nicer than any other lodge I have been to. The orientation that Ray gives you is really informative and answers all of the questions that I would be asking him anyways. We boated and fished for three days and did pretty good. Our stay was during COVID time and just as phase 3 came into affect. So to help us celebrate our anniversary Ray invited us to the main lodge on our last night and put on a one man guitar show! I will tell you.... he is seriously talented and blew our minds!
The Marten River Lodge surpassed our expectations. Not only because the water ran good or the cottages were clean, Ray and Donna truly care about their place. They truly want you to make memories and go out of their way to ensure that you do. This can be a rare thing to find these days.
Thanks again Ray for the amazing weekend.

My wife and I spent a mid-September 4 night getaway at Marten River Lodge. We had a great time and took our young Brittany Spaniel out for his first hunt. Ray took the time to get a local hunter to map out some trails for us. They really listened when I said we were new to hunting and suggested several appropriate trails. The forest was beautiful. We didn’t do much fishing, but that was on us. Ray gave us a comprehensive orientation on the well outfitted boats and the extensive water system. There was even a laminated map taped to the lid of the livewell. The smallmouth my wife caught were delicious. The cabin was rustic but very clean and well appointed. The staff were great. My wife enjoyed a drink at the fish hut with Donna and some other guests for the 4 o’clock bull session. Ray treated the gusts on our last night with a musical show. He’s quite talented and put on a professional show. The perfect end to a well deserved getaway. Thanks, Donna and Ray. We’ll be back!

We booked this 3 day fishing adventure as a birthday outing for our 8 year old grandson who loves to fish. He was not disappointed with his catch of pickerel and bass! Derek, the guide, was very patient with Logan , explained a lot about fishing to him and became his “ new best friend” ! The cabin was rustic but we were comfortable, the meals were wonderful( thank you Chef Peter) and our servers Jen and her daughter Chloe were always friendly and engaging! Tania and Peter, the owners , were always available to assist if needed and really make it their mission to ensure you have a great time at their lodge. We wish them continued success in their business. All in all, we accomplished our goal of quality time with our grandson and exposing him to a full 3 days of doing what he loves!

My husband and I just returned from the Marten River Lodge and had an incredible fishing adventure. The owners, Peter and Tania, and their daughter, Meagan, are a wonderful, generous family--who will go out of their way to please you to ensure you have the best time. They couldn't have been nicer. Peter was our fishing guide one day and Meagan was our guide on another. Both were fantastic and helped us catch plenty of fish. The shore lunches were so delicious, as were all the breakfasts and dinners. We highly recommend the American Plan (food included) but you can do your own cooking if you want. The cabins are rustic but that's exactly what we were looking for, but they are well equipped. The lodge is warm and cozy and full of games, books and videos. We couldn't have had a better time and we highly recommend this fishing lodge, We will definitely be back. Thank you Peter, Tania and Meagan.
