Very nice location, but such a shame about the locals in the pub. Frosty reception for a family, we were there having a drink at 5pm and there we table of very drunk adults next to us. Really intimidating, disgusting language and then a fight broke out between two males. Not a nice situation to be in with our young children. Took the staff at least 10 minutes to deal with the situation and even then the couple causing the issues weren't asked to leave. Will not be going back and definitely would not want to stay here overnight.

What a lovely suprise. After visiting for over 30 years with food often being hit and miss - this trip cut the mustard. Beautifully cooked food - including superb vegetarian roast. Separate portion if leeks in cheese sauce. Devine. Ate in the resteraunt - which was ambient and well staffed. Good choice of wine and selection of home made puds - too full to try. Cant wait to return

We travel down to Salisbury quite regularly to visit my mother and have previously stayed in various national hotel chains, but getting fed up with poor service and quality decided to make a change this time. I'm so glad we did!
A wonderful setting only a short walk into the centre of Salisbury and the Cathedral, this is a little gem. The rooms are good with everything you would expect from a good quality hotel. Although quite cold and wet outside the log burners in the bar and also the restaurant made for a very comfortable atmosphere.
We ate in the restaurant which has a good selection of well cooked 'pub grub' and the breakfast was also very good.
The bar was also good with a good selection of all types of drinks and all the staff were helpful and friendly.
We will definitely be staying here again.
Thank philmog

Arrived in the afternoon, lovely setting and was easy to find. It was chilly outside but the fire was burning in the bar. Room was clean and comfortable and food was lovely both the evening meal we ate in the bar and the breakfast we ate in the restaurant. Staff all friendly. Location great. We shall return

Located only a 10/15 minute stroll from the centre and the Cathedral. This beautiful old building has been sympathetically brought to life by the current owners. The meals we had in the restaurant were really nice and the range of drinks in the bar was excellent. Our ensuite bedroom was very clean and comfortable and decorated tastefully. We had a hairdryer, kettle and a Tassimo machine in the room. Because of it's age.... Taller folk like myself will need to be aware of some of the original old ceilings and beams but it all just adds to the charm of the hotel. There is a large entertainment/garden area at the rear of the hotel, but because of the time we were there, we didn't get to see it in full swing. The staff and locals were all very nice and friendly and it was an enjoyable break. We will be going back to the jewel just outside the city!

About
Description
The Old Mill Hotel is a 15th century building with features dating back to 1250. From its early ecclesiastical beginnings, it was transformed in the 16th century to a paper mill. The hotel is in the most More tranquil location of Harnham Meadows. However, the shopping and tourist district of Salisbury City centre is a mere 10 minute walk. The paved footpath takes you through the meadows which boast the fantastic view of the Cathedral that was voted 'Best View in Britain' in a Country Life poll. It was also made famous in John Constable's classic painting 'Salisbury Cathedral'. (This camera shot alone will make your visit worthwhile.) The hotel is Grade 1 listed in parts and stands in a most peaceful and stunning location above 3 mill runs off of the River Nadder. This really is a countryside escape, just a stone's throw from the ancient city. Our traditional old English bar with low beams, stone floors and open fires, is a step back in time. A little piece of old England that has been preserved for your enjoyment. You can sample the best cask ales, a great selection of wine and food and chat to the locals whilst enjoying the best welcome and hospitality that Wiltshire has to offer. The restaurant is set in the oldest part of the hotel and sits above a mill run which is visible through a viewing panel. The ever present hum of the rushing waters and the large open fireplace, make it one of the best places to enjoy perfectly English food that's been freshly prepared by our chefs for your pleasure. When the weather permits, our restaurant and bar may be outdone by our fantastic garden setting for the best place to enjoy a cool beer, a glass of wine or a great meal. We have 11 en-suite bedrooms set over 3 floors. (No lift available, however, we will of course help you with your bags if needed.) The historic staircase leads you up to the narrow corridors of the newer part of the building, a mere 300 years old. We are sure you will find the views from all our bedrooms are impressive, whether it's the Harnham hills, the River Nadder or over our fabulous gardens set on either side of the mill run, where every seat has a waterside view! The hotel bar, restaurant and bedrooms are undergoing refurbishment during Autumn 2014 and the garden will be completed in March 2015. This is being done with the maximum respect for our present hotel, bar and restaurant visitors and will enhance this already great experience. Less

We stayed in the only twin room right above the bar and it was not very noisy but any conversations ended when the bar closed at 11 so it did not bother us.
