Galini family has been really nice during all the holiday. Our room was big enough, very clean and fully equipped. The apartment is really close to kalamaki beach and many taverns and shops. It was a pleasure to spend time there. The hosts were very lovely. Recommended!
Kalamaki is a quiet unspoilt area with good tavernas...quiet and relaxing..basic accommodation but worth every penny.. Pension Galini is family run and every one is warmly welcomed and included in all evening activities.. like drinking raki!!!
What a lovely, friendly place to stay in Kalamiki. Clean room with a balcony with sea views - more the adequate in a good location and just a few minutes walk to village centre and beach with many Taverna's. The highlight of our stay at Pension Galini was the wonderful hospitality, friendliness, and warmth of the owners. A family run enterprise who welcome you into their home and invited us and other guests during our stay to an evening meal. It was lovely, meeting guests from Germany, Russia and Greece. The food was typically Cretan and cooked by Eleni and delicious. Such a lovely family and would highly recommend this place to those who want a taste of true Cretan culture, food and hospitality.
We found Pension Galini by chance on the Internet. And therefore we are happy! Their accomodations are clean, comfortable, just a short walk to the beach. But the bottom line is the owners. We encounter such hospitality for the first time.. All family members are very kind and friendly. We enjoyed the presence at Galini pension from the first to the last minute. In this place we want to come back again.. Highly recomended!
We were slightly disappointed that this pension was not on the beach but set back from the main area but that said the room was well equipped and clean and good value for somewhere to lay down to sleep, we ate breakfast on the beach and our evening meals at either end of this fantastic bay
This is a rather basic hotel though it has the usual amenities (including a wifi that was working perfectly, not necessarily expected on south Crete). The beach is a 3 minute walk away.A private swimming pool (for the days with big waves) is 2 minutes away. What made a huge difference were the owners who live on the ground floor. Always eager to help, engage in conversation and offer a coffee, a raki, some fruit or whatever was handy. I was really made to feel part of the fachanfes. mily - the interactions went well beyond the usual "polite" exchanges. I do travel a lot, but it has been some time that I felt this kind of warm hospitality. Add to it a very relaxing atmosphere in Kalamaki and good tavernas, and you can expect a great vacation.
I am returning for the third time this year and making it my centre for ten days. Reserved a studio with kitchenette for sake of independence. Great beach and restaurants; private pool close by; and within easy drive and walk of secluded beaches; Minoan culture; fabulous views; two non-tourist towns and attractive villages.
Good little pension within 3 minute walk of the beach and the restaurants and shops of Kalamaki. The staff were very very welcoming and keen to involve you in their way of life, they were very hospitable, giving you the chance to join in with meals and sit and have drinks with them on a daily basis. If your looking for somewhere just to lay your head this might not be the best for you. Rooms were clean and spacious, the only down side was that the tap water smelled particularly when stagnant on the bathroom floor after showers as it didn't drain very well. There was a nice balcony over looking the sea, but bare in mind not all rooms have kitchen facilities and you may want to request this if it's something you want. Kalamaki is quite difficult to access if you don't have a car and it might be worth asking for a transfer from somewhere like Matala or Mires, the owners were more than happy to oblige with this. Overall we enjoyed Kalamaki and Pension Galini was good value for money and a pleasant stay.…
It´s like always - the best things are hidden. Same with Kalamaki. On the first view it´s a small city or more a village, only interesting because of the long beach. On the second view the long beach still exists, but you can add very nice restaurants with low prices and a very familar athmosphere, small streets with less trafic, small shops. Everybody knows everybody including the tourists. Pension Gallini and the owners hit perfectly the spirit of the city. The familiy is very kind, the rooms are unexpensive and very clean and if you have the chance (and you will have it) to participate in a dinner, take it. All guests and the greek family together is a very interesting mixture and Mrs. Paximadakisis a very good cook.
We find Pension Galini as a recommendation at our tourist guide and booking it via Internet feeling queasy, because of a late arriving at our first time in greece. But we find very friendly familiar people. The communication with a mix of greece (5 words), english and german where never a problem. At the end of our visit we where integrated in the family having a nice evening with grill.
