The website promises so much; the cleanliness and freshness of the paintwork in the room were excellent but the management doesn’t seem to be handling Covid limitations well at all. There were silly little things about the room - a sticking bathroom door that wouldn’t close with an attack on its bottom edge that hadn’t solved the problem and had splintered paint and wood; no shelf in the bathroom meaning you had to put your wash bag on the toilet or the floor; a missing cap on the radiator; only one set of towels. All smacked of a lack of attention to detail. But the main thing was the poor service on catering. The website promised a garden room restaurant but only the bar was used. Here it was a 20 minutes wait before the single waitress/bar tenderer came to ask if we would like a drink. There was no wine list so the lady brought a selection of bottles to the table and it was over 30minutes before she came to take our order for food. It was 90 minutes before we were eating our desserts and the owner came to ask if everything was alright. We explained that we had booked for 7pm so were unhappy to still be sitting there at 8.30. He seemed like a ‘rabbit in headlights’ facing criticism and blamed Covid for all his woes. Well, as I see it, there are those that fight in the face of adversity and those that don’t. Leaving only two ladies, one in the kitchen and one in the bar, to handle all the guests after the time that Covid restrictions were lifted is not the way to run a business.…
Hospitality is back with a capital H. We all know what a hard time hospitality has had because of the Covid lockdowns but not everywhere has the art of welcoming guests whilst having good regard for the Covid regs. Here we were welcomed, all members of staff were friendly and efficient and nothing was too much trouble. Gardens at the back for a pre dinner drink, and a friendly bar for after dinner. Tasty breakfast. And a comfy Lounge area for those times in-between. We were visiting relatives so didn’t eat in, but have been told, by those relatives, that the food is good here.
Lovely hotel with very friendly staff. We stayed one night and ate in the hotel restaurant, the food was excellent as was the breakfast. Considering the long closure imposed upon the hospitality industry the hotel has done a great job of getting up and running again. Highly recommended.
An overnight stay to break a journey and it was great. Very conveniently positioned. Lovely room overlooking the garden with a good shower room. The staff were great and could not have been more helpful in facilitating my dietary needs. They’re in the process of renovations but that didn’t interfere with our enjoyment of our stay at all. Would highly recommend.
Finding a hotel that still greets you warmly on the telephone, answers emails and carries your bag to your room on arrival is a rare treat these days. Having to travel for work has been quite a chore as the “chain hotels” have been cold impersonal. Finding Northover Manor made my working day so much better. A main meal and breakfast served in the dining room and not having to take it to my room, bliss. Letting me overstay the following morning to take a meeting and giving me a quiet corner in the bar to do some work was above and beyond in my book. Plus of course a quiet comfy bedroom with lovely views of the garden and beyond. Well done to all the chatty friendly caring interested staff. You are a credit to the trade and fingers crossed you come out the other side.
