Really enjoyed a relaxing stay at hotel. Spectacular scenery. Hotel stuck in a time warp of old style surroundings and service. Could have stayed several days. Enjoyed our afternoon tea served on front lawn. Important if your used to corporate style such as Premier Inn...More
Generally a bit tired. We appreciate that it's an old hotel and are prepared to overlook some imperfect paintwork but it just feels dated and a bit run down. Food was disappointing. Portion sizes ridiculously small. Dont go into dinner hungry. Breakfast was ok. Good...More
When we first checked in we were given the wrong room to what we had booked,,, but it was rectified immediately when i told staff. Alex and the Lady(cant remember her name, possibly Lauren) were absolutely fantastic and could not apologise enough for the mix...More
This is a fine hotel set in countryside near Dumfries. Good food and friendly service. View to the river was exceptional. Salmon and trout fishing available for a reasonable price. Nice walks around the grounds with a map for guidance.

We ate in The Hotel and found the food excellent with plenty of choice and as we were there for the New Year celebrations it was fabulous in the Marquee

It is a fixed price menu ~£25. Given the small size of the hotel and the price point, I found the food pretty good. It is well presented and I liked the traditional, semi formal but relaxed environment of the restaurant. We were there for two nights and I found my choices a little bland for my taste on the first night and excellent on the second. I believe they have small smokery and their smoked duck and smoked haddock extremely good. I never tried the bar meals. If you have a young family or prefer the wider choice and familiar staples of restaurant chains, it may not be an ideal choice.
