Ok celebrated my 57th birthday and 11th wedding anniversary here tonight. The service is amazingly informative and attentive without being over powering or intrusive!! The food is art on a plate, decorative well presented and bursting with so much flavour!! The tables are not close so you don't realise there is anyone else there even when the restaurant is packed!!...

Everything about the Checkers is wonderful. The food is out of this world – international standard without pretense. Lovely people, warm welcome, cosy bedroom, comfortable restaurant, loads of ambiance. Despite the iffy weather and Storm Doris we still managed to get out on Offa’s Dyke, see Powis and Stokesay Castles and do some foodie shopping. We’ll be back!!!

At £65 for the tasting menu and £40 for the accompanying flight of wines, this must be one of the best value Michelin starred restaurants in Britain. The food was excellent, fresh, unusual and unobtrusively served. The accompanying bread board of 6 different breads was unbelievable. It was included in the price. This is an unpretentious restaurant with a friendly...

The room was fantastic, the service was wonderful, the food and wine were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and it was worth the 3 hours drive just for the bread plate! Allergies were catered for with no notice and fresh milk and homemade cookies in the room added that extra touch. Highly recommended, we had a great stay-thank you!

Our fourth visit of the year and another impeccable meal, with perfect service in elegant surrounds. The menu had been rebalanced since our last visit: it was still one course down on our initial visits but the second dessert had been replaced by an excellent cheeseboard - hurrah! I'd still like the extra savoury course reinstated (cheese retained!) with each...

Lovely little B&B. Room was nicely decorated and quirky. Kathryn is the perfect front of house, polite and attentive. Homemade biscuits and proper milk were a nice touch. Dinner was lovely, the petit fours and soup was stunning, fish dish was a bit salty and the dessert passion fruit cigar was gorgeous. Great selection of homemade bread to accompany the...

We have visited this restaurant several times and always stay overnight. The welcome is always warm and friendly, the place is unpretentious and homely, the rooms immaculate, the service excellent but it is the food we always go back for. The tasting menu is so well thought through whilst the tastes are to die for. If it is a gastronomic...

Wow. We visited this place a couple of weeks ago and were blown away. Located In the square in Montgomery ( a beautiful place and well worth a visit) it looks quite unassuming from the outside. As we walked in we were instantly welcomed and shown through to a snug for "pre-drinks" during which we were served delicious canapés- a...

Having visited for meals before, and enjoyed our experience each time, we decided to book a couple of weeks or so in advance of our visit. Upon our arrival we were informed that there was set menu for that evening. Some items on the set menu were not particularly appetising to us and we were unable to change them for...

We stayed overnight with the 5-course tasting menu and breakfast. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the room was large and comfortable (watch out for some low doorways though in this old property!). The food was amazing, from the canapes, sweetcorn veloute, the John Dory to the second dessert. The wine flight was excellently matched too! The breakfast was...
