The Maltings hotel is celebrated for its delightful lounges and exceptional dining, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that guests often appreciate. The service stands out as friendly and professional, with occasional hiccups in timing.
Despite the comfort and charm of the rooms, some reviewers feel the pricing does not reflect good value, particularly concerning room rates and meal costs. Nonetheless, the hotel's cleanliness and meticulous refurbishment receive high marks, contributing to the overall tranquil and classy ambiance that visitors to The Maltings enjoy.

Detailed Reviews
We had an early dinner with the perfect location of our table, so that we could watch all the food preparation in the kitchen.
The Maltings has recently been superbly refurbished, with great attention to detail, including even the excellent variety of books (many book club-type titles already read by me) offered in the library!
The main house at the front houses a bar and the library, plus some bedrooms (I understand there are 28 in total - we hope to return to try the accommodation too). Behind are more bedrooms, in sort of terraced outhouses. And then there is the Grain Store, the restaurant, where service was simply excellent - and such fun for chef-watching!
The Saturday newspaper review we had recently read mentioned the ‘small plates’, so we started with a chunk of superb flat bread, followed by 2 delicious small plates for me and an excellent sea food pasta dish and Asian greens as a side for my husband. If you’ve still got space, try out the exquisite carrot cake for pudd, unlike any carrot cake (and unrecognisable as one) you’ve had before!

Dear Penny T, Thank you so much for your delightful review! We’re thrilled to hear that you had such a wonderful dining experience at The Maltings. It’s fantastic to know that you enjoyed the ambiance and the opportunity to watch the kitchen in action—there’s something special about seeing the culinary magic unfold! We’re glad you appreciated our recent refurbishment and the attention to detail, especially in our library. It’s great to hear that you found some familiar titles among our collection! Your kind words about our service and the dishes you enjoyed, particularly the small plates and the unique carrot cake, mean a lot to us. Chef's carrot cake is becoming a firm favourite and we're glad you agree! We take pride in offering a memorable dining experience, and it’s wonderful to know that we succeeded during your visit. We would love to welcome you back to try our accommodations in the future! Thank you once again for your thoughtful feedback, and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Warm regards, Connor Ross

I’m just going to echo some of the comments previously made -
The refurb of the dining room is spectacular and we received a warm welcome. From there everything went a bit pear shaped.
We were seated and then forgotten about. We were chatting so didn’t immediately notice that nearly 20 mins had gone by and nobody had brought menus or asked us if we wanted a drink. The host then noticed and brought menus himself. Still nobody came so we had to call someone over to order a cocktail menu. Then again to order the cocktails. Then again to order the food. 2 of us shared the £95 seafood platter which was lovely but arrived without napkins, spare bowl for shells, finger bowl or the chips we had ordered with it. The Mayo we requested arrived as we were finishing. We then had to ask for somebody to remove the dirty plates. Our desserts arrived at 10.30 which given that we had sat down at 7.30 is just silly. There were plenty of staff and they are individually lovely and friendly but are definitely not working as a cohesive team yet. The bill (which we had to go and ask for!) had a service charge on it, which we asked to be removed. The food is nice but too expensive with the service as it is. I’m sure things will improve and we will wait awhile and try again next year.

Dear Max, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We truly appreciate your honest feedback, as it helps us identify areas for improvement. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the spectacular refurbishment of our dining room and received a warm welcome from our team. However, I sincerely apologize for the service issues you encountered during your visit. It’s disappointing to learn that you felt forgotten after being seated and that there were delays in receiving menus, drinks, and your food order. This is certainly not the level of service we aim to provide. I appreciate your comments regarding the seafood platter and the missing items, as well as the timing of your desserts. We strive to ensure that every detail is attended to, and I regret that we fell short in this instance. I will be sharing your feedback with our team to address these concerns and improve our service cohesion. Regarding the service charge on your bill, I apologise for any confusion and appreciate your understanding in having it removed. We want our guests to feel that they receive value for their experience, and your feedback is invaluable in helping us achieve that. We hope you will consider giving us another chance in the future. We are committed to making the necessary improvements and providing you with the exceptional experience you deserve. Thank you once again for your feedback, and we would look forward to welcoming you back next year. If you do plan on returning please do reach out directly to myself on reception@themaltingsweybourne.com. Warm regards, Connor

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at The Maltings and I can’t praise it enough. We arrived and were greeted by Connor who was so helpful and friendly and showed us around and explained everything even bringing us a little flask of fresh milk for our very comfy room. The atmosphere at The Maltings is so welcoming and relaxed…log fires burning in all the beautifully designed public rooms, the games room, bar and library….all the staff that we encountered were so helpful, friendly and you really do feel that nothing is too much trouble..
The Grain Store restaurant is amazing as is the food, we ate there both nights of our stay, and breakfast was also delicious with plenty of choice from both cooked and continental menus.
The only thing that I could score a minus point with was the totally ineffective hand dryers in the cloakrooms in the main house……most other Chestnut Group establishments that we have visited (and there are quite a few) have paper towels as an option, hopefully The Maltings will look into this option.
Overall we think The Maltings is a great place to visit …..so much so that we have already booked again for March next year. A special thank you to Miles for helping us with that
We are really looking forward to our next visit.

Having spent a long time on the telephone with someone discussing our requirements for a perfect stay, before the hotel had even opened, to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Furious would be nearer the mark.
I had booked an extra large ground floor room with own parking space and plenty of space for our dog. The room was booked for £303, only one of two rooms of this standard, with the offer of "dinner is on us".
On arrival last week however, we were advised we had been "upgraded". Strange I thought having been told we had one of the best two rooms.
We were shown a room that was up some open stairs and advised that there was no one above us!!! Clearly not what we had booked and were then shown a tiny room opening straight into the bedroom with stairs going up. Apparently that was to the lounge area but we would not need to go upstairs as the tea making facilities were in the bedroom! Getting a little exasperated we were then shown another tiny room with its own parking space and a cot, which they said would be moved. Clearly we had been moved from our original booked room, which they admitted was the case. None of the rooms shown were anywhere near the £303 mark, more like £150 and that would be generous. Grasping at straws they then offered us a room at The Globe in Wells.
By then I was absolutely livid and demanded they refund the £303 with compensation for the huge disappointment and inconvenience. They have done so but no sign of the requested compensation. How dare they try and fob us off with cheaper accommodation and tell us to our face we were being upgraded. Unbelievable!

You can immediately judge a restaurant by the welcome from the staff, we knew after the welcome we received that lunch would be good.
The Granary Store has been beautifully renovated, leaving plenty of the old amongst the modern. Service superb with smiling and attentive staff.
Nice to see the open kitchen with a smoothness service as orders came in. My husband had the sirloin beef Sunday lunch which was very good value and large portion size with plenty of vegetables. I had the coal fired steak with frites, chimichurri and peanuts. Steak was marvelous, frites were ok but a little over fried, should have chosen the chunky chips! Greedily we had puddings, my chocolate creameaux was totally delicious.
Given that the restaurant has only been open a month, everything was perfection, I just hope that the enthusiasm remains for a long time.

Newly opened, very dog friendly and a great location in Weybourne. The team were brilliant and couldn’t have been more attentive. Special mention to Conor, Johnny, Myles, Nathan and Phoebe - all made a huge effort to make our stay relaxing and fun. We’ve stayed in all sorts of hotels and can be picky, the people at The Maltings made a huge difference and we’ll definitely be going back soon.

We were excited to try the Maltings after their much heralded refurbishment and weren’t disappointed.
The staff were excellent, the food splendid and a good selection of wines.
It was a little disappointing to see what felt like some rough edges, but perhaps there are areas still to be finished? Huge windows looking out onto ventilation systems, with a little more thought they could be disguised…& the loos seem like they belong more at a campsite!
We do hope the good start continues and that the finishing touches are around the corner. At prices a few notches higher than lots of the local competition there needs to be a good reason to spend that little extra.
Keep up the good work, we look forward to coming back!

The decision to book for the opening week proved to be an excellent one. What a transformation! From ‘Fawlty Towers’ to 5* luxury! Not only is The Maltings a stunning place to stay, natural wood and exposed girders featuring prominently, it is a true experience in hospitality.
I believe that it is the staff who make your holiday - and The Maltings staff did not disappoint! Outstanding service, nothing too much trouble, warm, friendly and highly professional. It is a certainty that we will return.

A definite 5 star experience from The Maltings. Our room was very comfortable and had the addition of a small patio to catch the last of the evening sun, at the front a courtyard to enjoy a cocktail or bottle of wine. The food was delicious and for this reason we made the decision to eat in The Grain Store on all 3 nights of our stay. A special shout out to Conor and Molly, but thank you to all staff for making our wedding anniversary one to remember. We look forward to staying with you again in the future.

Enjoyed a spontaneous family meal in The Grain Store, part of the Maltings complex. What an exciting and inspirational space! We have watched the development progress over the months and it was the first opportunity to experience the new restaurant since it reopened in August.
I really couldn’t fault the food or the service. We enjoyed a light lunch with exceptional Brancaster Staithe smoked salmon, good Caesar salads, crispy fried chicken with chipotle and the Cromer crab tacos. All absolutely delicious.
There was a good choice of wine by the glass as well.
The service was welcoming, helpful and efficient and I particularly appreciated that on a quiet lunchtime the guests were seated throughout the restaurant giving everyone space around their table and were not all seated together for the ease of the waiting staff.
The dog was made welcome too.
A quick look around the main hotel and reception areas showed well thought out, comfortable reception areas and bar, all beautifully decorated .
We shall look forward to the next visit.
