We had a cabin here for two nights. Everything was clean, except the water was not crystal clear - as it It was nice to have a full kitchen for the two days. We didn't cook anything but the full size fridge was nice to have, as well as the coffee maker and kettle. There is a small grocery store within walking distance to get supplies, and there is a laundromat on site (which we didn't use). The motel proper is on the other side of the street, and has a restaurant and Greco Pizza for food service. If there are any plans for renewing and updating the decor (which is quite dated inside the cabin) - it wouldn't take much - just a fresh coat of white or almost white paint instead of the dark golden colour, and new bedding that doesn't look like bedspreads from the 70s. It would make the inside much brighter!

The nearest spot to the Western Brook Pond boat trip which is one of the top attractions in Gros Morne National Park, is Cow Head and the place to stay there is the Shallow Bay Motel. Situated literally right on the water, make sure you get a room facing the ocean. You'll feel more like you're on a ship than dry land. This places exudes Newfoundland hospitality where everybody is a 'Dear' or 'My Love' The Myra Bennett theatre is literally across the street and is a surprisingly large and modern venue for performances.
There is an outdoor pool that many kids were enjoying. You can watch them from the restaurant which has good food, but not great. It is difficult to get fresh produce in this part of Newfoundland so stick to watch they do have - seafood.
After spending two and a half hours on Western Brook Pond this is a welcome oasis to return to.

Visited the motel this weekend and I have to say Cow Head has to be my favourite place I’ve visited. The staff here are amazing, So friendly and helpful . We had an ocean view room and the view was beautiful , Watching the sunset and the tide change. Our room was very clean and modern, and comfortable . The restaurant has really good food as well. My 4 year old keeps asking me when we can go back again. Definitely a five star rating from us . We enjoyed it so much that we are now planning to go back in a few weeks for another weekend .

this was a great accommodation with a reasonable price of just under 180 Canadian with a well appointed room with a jacuzzi and right on top of the ocean. friendly helpful staff. Walked along the beach and found interesting stones and sea glass. so fun watching tide come in and out from room. Comfortable bed and pillows as well as soundproof. just beware the water is naturally yellow it could put you off in the jacuzzi that is for sure. We did let them know when something fell under the bed other peoples items were there too and i pinched my foot on a beer cap sitting up that was not ours close to the bed. Parking is close to the room. Had a restaurant that decor was lovely but we did not try. Would definitely try again only a short drive to bon tours and then since its at the top of the park its close if you are continuing to head up north

Quaint motel on the coast - very happy with our stay there! Beautiful views of the ocean and mountains. We got an ocean-facing room and with the windows open you could listen to the waves while relaxing in your room. Room was clean and staff was very friendly and had good recommendations. Good Wi-Fi and free parking. Big plus was the motel restaurant! There are not a lot of restaurants in the area so it was extremely helpful to have a restaurant at the motel that is open most of the day and has delicious food and a big menu. It can be hard to eat healthy while on vacation so I really appreciated the good salad and vegetable options on the menu, as well as the amazing seafood. Location is very convenient being only 15-20 minutes from West Brook Pond, about 30 minutes from national park visitor center and Gros Morne, and about an hour from the Tablelands and other hikes on the south end of the park.

Great little cabin, we had the 2 bedroom. Has 2 double beds, little kitchen and table. Well set up and very clean, kitchen had everything you can need . We ate supper at the restaurant, the Greco pizzeria is within the hotel and can be ordered from the restaurant or the pub. Great service.

We planned ahead for this 2 week driving tour of Nfld. The Shallow Bay had been recommended to us and we booked 4 nights stay with a handicap friendly room. Explored the west coast....north to St Anthony ( stayed one night ) and south to The Table Lands. Great room and a very spacious and comfortable dining room where we enjoyed the breakfasts and a couple of evening meals. The view from the dining room is lovely.

Two of us spent 1 night here during our visit to Gros Morne National Park. The location was great (right along the beachfront), the facilities provided at the motel were decent and the bedrooms were also comfortable, spacious and clean.
The downside to our stay was not just the large volume of coach tours that stayed here, but rather that the motel prioritised these customers above individual bookings.
We experienced a long wait when checking in at reception as the restaurant doesn’t settle bills and a coach tour was queuing to pay for their meals and we also had issues in the restaurant as our food (2 seafood chowders) took an hour to be brought to us - the waitress was that busy with the coaches she forgot to put out order in.
Overall this place has great potential but is run inefficiently.

We had a lovely stay in one of the new units at this location. It was a newer built, 4 unit motel, not attached to the main motel, but not one of the cabins. It was right on the water, spacious, clean, just lovely, and only a short walk to the main building. The main building has a great dining room, as well as a bar that was great fun. You could order food at either location. Meals were great. The staff is great. Reception was very welcoming. The bar seemed to host the local population as well as tourists, so we got to enjoy NL hospitality! If the sun was out, I am sure the sunrises would have been spectacular. Cowhead is a quiet town as far as we could see. No "downtown" per say, but a grocery.

The view from the ocean side rooms starts your day off so right only to finish with a fabulous sunset display.
Solid restaurant service, easy parking.
Q-Tip: #1 item on the breakfast menu (And other times I assume) are the fish cakes: Brilliant.
Q-Trip: Ice machine makes a great asset for your drinking.

They have 2 dinner theatres there so if you enjoy live theatre you might want to attend. Performances are awesome. Highly recommended. Food is simply awesome. Hospitality overwhelmingly great.
We were on a tour and breakfast was included but I don't know if the free breakfast was from the motel or the tour group.
Hi there! Thanks for your inquiry. We offer motel rooms with one or two double beds(both Standard & Ocean View) two queen beds(ocean View only) and cottages with one or two double beds.Prices vary depending on the number of people and the view, so it could be a little confusing for guests to have these all listed on our site. Hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please feel free to call or email us at any time! Cheers!
