A room out of the box! Facilities tick most boxes. Large airconditoned room, kettle, separate toilet, terrific bathroom. Two large opening windows. Facing street ~ but is a quiet area. Some confusion at check in as there is no manned reception area. Key was eventually got from bar across the street. Language is a challenge if speaking only English. Eggs, bread and cereals available as part of self serve breakfast. Best room we have stayed in during the past 3 weeks hiking and biking in France.

We stayed here for a night. The rooms are modern, clean and well equipped with extremely comfortable beds. Our room had a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. It was surprising to see such a modern hotel in a far off and quaint little village like Cucugnan. We highly recommend this hotel for travellers on the Cathar trail.

We stayed here for two nights half board and had the lovely 'garden room' which was a split level room (the bed was up open plan stairs). We had a lovely private terrace with seats table etc and the most fantastic view over the valley.

The breakfast and evening meals were really good and well presented.
Loved this hotel and would certainly return.
Cucagnon is very small, but friendly and clean. It is a great place to visit local sites.

A special thanks to the staff and especially Stephanie who was fantastic - especailly her use of english! :0)

We are at the restaurant tonight July 15th. We could have chosen any restaurant in the area. We decided to pick here. What a poor choice we made. I feel gutted. We took a friend and our family. The service was miserable and rude. The two ladies who served us were rude. It felt like we were intruding In the restaurant and not welcome. The food all came out at different times with no apologies. We had the wrong meal presented with no apology. I will never ever return to this restaurant as I felt the service and hostility from the staff was so appalling. The food however was nice.

Maybe because we were English? I am not sure but no other restaurant during our stay made me write a review like this... I am still astonished how awful you made us feel... my children said how rude the women were and why wasn’t I saying something... I now am..

Cucugnan, an interesting small village, is a great place to access the Cathar castles. The Auberge du Vigneron was charming, with helpful friendly owners. Our room was rustic, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The ensuite was modern, small and with lots of hot water. Dinner in the restaurant was a highlight of our ten days in France. The cellar restaurant was atmospheric and the food was superb. The highlight for my husband was a bubbling dish of the regional cassoulet.

We stayed 3 days at the Auberge and had diner at the restaurant twice. The room was very comfortable and the restaurant excellent with a fixed price menu at around 26 EUR without wine. The host is very friendly. Cucugnan is a great place for a stop between the Queribus and Peyrepertuse castles.

We stayed at the Auberge du Vigneron for two nights in September 2016. Cucugnan is a gorgeous small town that is very close to several Cathar castles. We had to book a family room as that is all that was available when we were there. The room had a view of the garden in the back of the hotel. The main level had a bedroom, shower/sink room and separate toilet. It also had an upper loft with a couple of small beds that would have been perfect if we had kids. We generally prefer beds on the soft end of the spectrum, but the bed in our room was pretty hard. The room was clean and more than adequate for our needs. It had an air conditioner, but we never needed to turn it on.

The hotel has a fantastic restaurant, with a stunning view of the valley and the low mountains. We ate there both nights and the food was exceptional, as was the wine. It offers breakfast for hotel guests, but we could not manage to get up in time to take breakfast there.

Depending on when you arrive, you may have to walk over to the bar across the street to check in. To check out, simply go inside the restaurant and talk to the person behind the counter.

We didn't hear much English being spoken in Cucugnan but we got by fine with my limited French. As with any trip to the small towns of rural France, you should try to learn just a bit of travel French before leaving home. Your experience will be much richer if you simply make the effort. The French themselves will also appreciate it.

Cucugnan is a small town that ended up being larger than we expected. It has several restaurants and shops. At night, it is extremely quiet. It is also a convenient town for exploring the wonderful castles in the Aude department (Peyrepertuse and Queribus, primarily). If you are a fan of medieval history or castles, this is a fantastic part of France to visit.

The town has a free parking lot on the main road just as you come into town. We probably could have driven our car up into town and parked in front of the hotel, but we opted to walk the very short distance back and forth.

The hotel has been totally renewed, the rooms are spacious, very clean and nice. The bathroom follows the new trends and the toilet is totally separated. The restaurant is very good, with a nice presentation and very good food. We do like this place and the friends we toke with us were also more than satisfied.

Stayed here for 3 nights and had a great stay, room very clean and comfortable. We had the garden room, which is very private but has a few issues - the stairs up to the loft bed are exceedingly steep, bordering on dangerous, and this room is beneath the hotel so many more steps to get down to it (and back up!).

Had dinner here only one night but it was very good and the service fabulous.

Don't miss the castles.

Also note that you have to park your car 300m away once you drop your bags off.

We were on a round of cathar castles and ended up being a little late at the Queribus castle. The roads in the Pyrenees are tricky and so when the darkness arrived we decided to stay at the little village we could see from the top of the mountain. We were rather late arriving but thankfully there were rooms available and our room was really cool! It was under the roof and with views of the valley below us. We hurried downstairs to their restaurant since we did not want to go to bed hungry and ended up closing it down eventually. We had an amazing 3-course dinner with all sorts of different options from their seasonal and local menu. The chef was truly amazing, the service impeccable and prices very reasonable! Our night at the hotel cost only 56 euros for a double room! It is a truly amazing place indeed and I highly recommend it to anyone in the area!
