Detailed Reviews
We have stayed here a couple of times and enjoyed getting to know Beulah the owner. She is a very special lady and makes a wonderful breakfast. We were the first guest of the 2024 season and we got to meet the new owners that are taking over the B&B from Beulah. Trish and Steve will carry on the tradition of providing a comfortable stay with great meals.

Visited Seven Oakes June 22'.
Thoroughly enjoyed Change Islands and all of the folks we met there.
The inn is a step back to an earlier time, a wonderful time.
Beulah (the innkeeper/owner is wonderful; she is everyone's loving grandma.

Change Islands is a short car ferry ride (15 min) near Twillingate and is a must see. If you do go the other must see and do is to stay at the Seven Oakes Inn. Located up high in the main town so that you can see the sunrise and sunset from the wrap-around deck. The rooms are beautiful, a beatiful view from each room. Some have a wooden fireplace.
The best part of this house is the owner Beaula. Beaula and her husband Ed brought up 7 children here. You must have breakfast and dinner here. Both came to just $26 per person and were the best meals we had on our 3 week trip. She can be reached at 709-621-3256.

Spent the night here in July, upon arrival to the inn there was no one on the premesis and the door was locked, not a good first impression. We drove around the island awaiting the owners return. We had pre arranged supper for that night and never thought of asking the price, the price was $ 35.00 per person plus tax for a basic cod fish supper, nothing spectacular and highly overpriced. I guess I should have asked first but it really didn't matter as there was nothing else open on the island for supper. Breakfast was also not included, we never had it, so not sure how much that was. The owner seemed a little put out that we didn't want breakfast. When we checked out there was a mistake on the bill that I never noticed until I got home. On our bill there was a $ 10.00 mistake and on our friends there was a $ 30.00 mistake. I called up the owner and she admitted it and said she would sent us the money, that never happened. It left a very sour taste in our mouth regarding her honesty and I felt bad that my friends got a bad impression as it was my suggestion to stay here on their visit from Ontario. Oh yes and after paying the $90 for two suppers she had the nerve to say that tips for her staff were not included. I always tip the wait staff, but by the time we had to pay they were gone home and no way was I tipping the owner after the over the top price we had already paid .

This is one of the premier places to stay in Newfoundland and Labradour. Beulah Oake and staff are marvelous hosts. The meals are Newfoundland home cooking and great. It is ok to bring your own wine. Change Islands is a place you must experience and Seven Oakes is the absolute best place to stay. Rooms are spacious, extremely clean, and quiet at night. However, when eating there be sure to eat all your vegetables!

We stayed in one of the little cabins. They were very clean, only thing you have to be out of cabin a few hours before boat arrives. Wifi and cell service very poor in cabins, certainly needs upgrading. We paid $160 a night which was the most expensive out of 6 cabins we rented during our vacation, A bit expensive I find considering that I paid a lot less for which were much nicer during our vacation.

If you are looking for accommodations on Change Island, this might be your only choice. Despite the monopoly, Beulah Oake & staff really go above and beyond. We stayed at the inn for two nights of our Honeymoon and were extremely happy with just about everything.
Our room (#1) had a lovely view of the ocean, as well as a fireplace. Despite the fact that it was our honeymoon, we spent a lot of time sleeping in that room. The cool & fresh air, dark room, and comfortable bed were exactly what we need to recharge our batteries after St. John's and a day of driving.
We took all our meals (breakfasts and dinners) at the inn. While the meal prices were higher than we expected, I cannot complain about the quality of the food. Everything was well-prepared and tasty.
Beulah and her staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Beulah, in particular, was wonderfully engaging and told us lots of stories about her life. At 75, Beulah Oake has been running Seven Oakes for 27 years. She isn't sure how more seasons she has in her -- if you get a chance, check it out before she retires.

My husband, daughter, and I found our recent stay at Seven Oaks Inn to be relaxing and comfortable. The setting is amazing - on top of a hill overlooking the small surrounding community. We enjoyed the excellent dinner and breakfast, and it was so nice chatting with Beulah and the other staff there. We would certainly stay here again! Note that it is an Inn, not a B&B, so breakfast is an additional cost, and I found the cost for breakfast and dinner to be rather high. My mistake for not checking first. ($13 for breakfast pp, and $36 for dinner pp)

Friends of ours taught on Change Island and urged us to go to the trouble of taking the ferry and spending some time there. We are so glad we did. Having lived in rural Newfoundland 40 years ago, it was somewhat dismaying to see so much of old Newfoundland gone, replaced by vinyl-sided houses and ATVs -- and those places that are as we remembered now mostly recreated "living museums." Change Islands, despite it's name, has weathered many storms and remains a reminder of those earlier times when people made their living from the sea and lived in close communities. The scenery -- craggy shorelines and rocky harbours -- is as beautiful as you will find in NL. A wonderful hike, Squid Jiggers Trail, takes you through fascinating marsh, rocky headlands and along spectacular seafront. And Seven Oakes (named for host Beulah's seven children) fits right in. As mentioned by others, Beulah is a great host, and the house she has converted into a comfortable inn harkens back to another time. The front portion of the house dates back to the 19th century, full of old wood moulding and low ceilings. The newer rooms are less charming but equally comfortable. Note that breakfast is not included with the room. Dinner too is additional, but prices are reasonable and Beulah and the team of local women who work with her prepare wonderful meals featuring local produce, fish and wild berries. Delicious.

Seven Oakes offers three spotless two-berooom cottages as well as lovely rooms in the main inn, most with their own bathrooms. The setting is magical. You reach Change Islands by ferry from Farewell, which is about 85 km from Gander, and "step back in time" as you arrive on the islands. Seven Oakes is on the north island, not far after you cross the narrow bridge across the tickle. The owner knows the area inside out and can arrange boat tours and give advice about ferry times, walking trails and buildings and other locations of historical and local interest. Breakfasts and dinners are available for an extra charge, and feature ingredients such as cod, blueberries and partridge berries and other local dishes as well as fresh homemade breads and desserts. The beds are comfortable, the nights are quiet, the views are stunning and the hospitality is warm and relaxed. One cottage is accessible.
