Family like simple but clean and nice, excellent service and small onsen, right on the slope. All the advice you want, Ken is a great ski instructor. If you are looking for good but not fancy, this is your place!

I really wish I could say nothing but good things about Villa Alpen but sadly it's just not possible. Yes, the hosts are very nice people, but having lived in Japan for 18 mths we have found all Japanese people to be wonderful! The accommodation is pretty grim and dirty as my photos show - the cracked toilet seat with...

We stayed at the Villa Allen for 8 nights while on a skiing holiday in Japan. This is a lovely Establishment and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The meals where fantastic, the rooms clean and comfortable. The hosts speak English very well and "The Captain" and his staff went out of there way to make us feel at home. I...

We've lost count on how many times we've been to Villa Alpen - maybe 7 or 8? The reason we keep reviewing the property is because we want everyone to know about the fantastic service and location of this family run accommodation. Although Villa Alpen's address is in Yamaouchi-machi, it is actually located in the Shikakogen Ski Resort at Sun...

I really enjoyed our stay here, the accommodation is dated but the warm hospitality makes up for it. Scrambled eggs for breakfast were brilliant after eating mainly traditional Japanese breakfasts in the prior three weeks of our Japan trip, the evening meal was very filling and varied. It was also great to have a cosy bar to drink and socialise...

We have been to Villa Alpen 3 times. This is not a luxury accommodation but we loved it because it is special. It has onsen bathrooms, traditional Japanese food, atmosphere, generosity and help of the hosts. I have experienced that help, when I bought skies in Tokyo. Captain looked at them and decided they were manufacture faulty. He rang the...

This is a small, family run hotel, ski in-ski out property. It is a little quirky, but that is half the fun. Our Japanese room was very large, warm, with a toilet and basin, but the corridor was filled with lockers-our room was on the entrance level- but it was not what I expected. The Captain was an excellent host,...

We have been coming to Shiga Kogen since 2008 and this is our fifth stay at Villa Alpen. The feeling of being welcomed back, with big smiles and warm hugs, is fantastic and genuine. Captain, Hiroko, Ken & the staff are wonderful, as are the superb dinners and breakfast served daily. Being able to ski out straight from the rental...

What a great hotel. OK so it might be an older style hotel but this it what it has in abundance: generous sized rooms with private toilet, great lounge area, free wi-fi, its own snowboard, skis, boots and poles hire facilities, just 60m from a chair lift which leads to the massive snow fields, 3 minutes from the bus drop...

Is an older property however is instantly welcoming. You don't have to take off your ski boots when entering the front door. Captain and his family were lovely as well as the staff and we were made to feel at home with a very relaxed atmosphere. Exceptional food and great breakfast. Our room was comfortable with Tatami Area. Shared bathroom...
