Had a wonderful time staying within Shirakawa-go, wonderful and attentive owner. With shared bathroom and toilet, it was surprisingly not as bad as I had initially expected. But staying within Shirakawa meant I could explore the place longer and with less crowd. Meals (Dinner and breakfast) was very nice as well and a must have since the shops around the...

Shirakawa-go is a UNESCO world heritage site, so we were curious about staying overnight there. It is located in a valley with a very scenic river surrounded by hills. Staying at one of the Gassho Zukuri minshuku (steep, thatched roof farm houses) here is a unique experience that some people may enjoy. Unfortunately, we were unprepared for the Spartan-like conditions....

My husband and I stayed for 1 night at this lovely ryokan - room and bathroom facilities were extremely clean and functional. The ryokan is located at the back of the village so it was extremely quiet away from the many day trippers. It was most pleasant after 5pm and especially walking around early morning before breakfast. Dinner and breakfast...

Stay here one night with my wife, we booked this Ryokan via Japanese guesthouse, the price is 21800 yen included 2 persons dinner and breakfast so the price still okay for this. We experienced the Japanese food and bed style. This place is nice, food is delicious, especial the Hida beef for the dinner. The location is far from bus...

This is my second time to stay at guesthouse in Shirakawako. I would say each place comes in the same standard. You will experience the real Japanese life right here. The price you paid including 2 traditional Japanese meals, 1 dinner and 1 breakfast, which are very healthy. The room is very comfy especially the blanket I love. There are...

Stayed here for one night with my husband on a 2 day trip to Shirakawago. The host was very welcoming and eager to recommend restaurants and an onsen in the area. The bathroom was great, looks like a sauna, great way to warm up after a cold day, we were lucky as the only guests staying that night, otherwise you...

We wanted to try and stay in the very pretty town of Shirakawa in a traditional Gassho. Kanjiya had a lot of good reviews. I feel this will come down to who else is staying in the Gassho with you. The rooms are clean and comfortable, however the walls are paper thin. All noise and light gets though every crack...

Kanjiya (or Kanja on some other websites) is a traditional styled house nestled on the Northern end of the beautiful Shirakawago village. This keeps the house away from the main tourist strip but yet very accessible to all sights in the village. The house is renovated within the traditional style structure and this allows a perfect blend of modern bathroom/toilet...

“Try to avoid the first room as it has no privacy. All guests have to walk pass your room to toilet and it is just next to the guest house main door. As all rooms are just separated by a thin wood wall so it is less privacy so if possible, so visit shirakawago in a big group of 8 and stay at Kanjiya so the guest house is yours:-p”

“This is a purely Japanese style establishment, so be prepared for a memorable experience if you have not been lucky enough to have had this enlightening voyage before. The food is Japanese as are the bath and sleeping arrangements.”
