Family of 4 stayed in 2 rooms in early January. Very clean, modern hotel. The rooms were much bigger than expected especially for both a snow location and Japan. Very helpful staff and fantastic that they provide 2 vans to drop you off at bus shuttles, chairlift and restaurants in the evening. Bathrooms good size and whilst sink is small...

Double Black is a small hotel in a picturesque setting in the forest. Despite this it is still quite handy to all amenities, restaurants and the Happo Gondola. The small number of rooms makes this a very intimate hotel and enables you to get to know the other guests. The rooms are small but very comfortable and the beds are...

3 mates stayed here for a week long skiing trip in hakuba. We found the double black hotel to be a great base for our time. Staff organized transfers to certain mountains in the morning and to restaurants and other nearby locations in the evenings, as well as giving plenty of recommendations for dinner venues. Breakfast included was great, staff...

The best way to reach Hakuba is on the limited express, Super Azusa from Shinjuku Station. Due to timing we took the local train from Matsumoto, through a magical winter wonderland of fresh powder snow, setting this trip up to be amazing from the start and it didn't disappoint. After calling the Hotel from the station, Leo arrived shortly after...

We recently dined at the restaurant in the Double Black Hotel. We had a party of 12. We had wonderful attention from the staff, in particular Leo who took our booking, and Rose who looked after us in the restaurant. We were asked if anyone in the group had dietary requirements which was greatly appreciated as was the pick up...

Hotel: This was our second stay in the hotel in the last 3 years and we found significant improvement since our last visit. We just spent 2 weeks in DB and had a fantastic stay. Our room was very confortable. The hotel has both male and female onsens which can be booked privately. The staff could not do enough to...

Nice staff, but that's about it. They label this a boutique hotel, I'd call it a hostel with private rooms. It felt like I was staying with my extended family and their 10 kids running and screaming down the halls. The hotel was WAY overpriced for what you get and LOUD. The doors are hallow core and you can hear...

The meal we had at this restaurant was very tasty. It is on the fine dining end of the food spectrum, with prices to match. The staff were pleasant and efficient. It was a good restaurant for us to celebrate a special occasion, but definitely not for starving teenagers unless you have a big budget!

Having been recommend to stay at Double Black we were not disappointed. Its proximity to the slopes; the local village & its warm homely feel throughout makes it all so much easier for first time visitors to Hakuba, like our selves. A big thank you to owners Merran & Mark and their staff, especially Managers Keiko & Leo, to all...

Opening of the 2012/2013 season. We understand a number of guests have been disappointed with the service they received in the opening weeks of the 2012/ 2013 season. We engaged a new management company for this season and have been badly let down by them. We became aware that we were experiencing difficulties after 28 December and one of our directors flew to Hakuba on New Year’s Eve. We then took over the running of the hotel and moved as quickly as possible to address the many issues that confronted us. We can confidently report that Double Black Hotel is now operating as advertised and is living up to all the good reviews previously posted on Trip Advisor. If you feel that you were disappointed with the service you received when on holiday with us, please contacts us and we will ensure that you are appropriately recompensed. ... more   less
