The food here is varied and excellent. The family will make you at home and help you in every way to make your stay in Hakuba wonderful no matter what the season. Toshi is the manager and speaks excellent English. Use the onsen.

My husband and I stayed at the Shiroumaso Onsen Ryokan for 3 nights at the end of Oct 2016. It was an amazing stay!! The staff spoke English to us. Our room was the traditional Japanese style and had a shower in the room. The room was very clean and the hotel staff would lay our bedding out on the...

Spent a week in January at this family run ryokan. Family comprises three tall teenagers. The snow was very limited this season by usual standards and for the first two days many lifts were closed and there was not top to bottom skiing. Despite this we really enjoyed our stay in the accommodation and village. Throughout the community there was...

What a fun and unique experience to stay in a Japanese style hotel! I found the staff at this hotel to be particularly helpful and friendly. The Shabu Shabu meal provided was actually one of the highlights of my Japan trip! It provided a more authentic homemade like meal that was also really delicious! The onsen on the property was...

Looking for good accommodation near the Hakuba- Happo skifields, I came across this ryokan on the internet. Everything about it appealed to me so I booked it. Toshi, the owner and manager, was very helpful with the room selection and booking details. We stayed at the Shiroumaso Ryokan in March 2016 for 8 days. We would have been happy to...

Hakuba onsen Ryokan Shirouma-so is just so good, it really doesnt need tripadvisor reviews. Location: just a 5 minute walk from the Happo-one Bus terminal; and less than a minute from the shuttle bus stop, it is extremely easy to get to & to get around. Also within very easy walking distance are a number of excellent inexpensive dining options...

We only went to the restaurant as a treat and wow it did not disappoint. Toshi was a fabulous host and the food was to die for! You are given traditional Japanese robes and then many small wonderful tastes come to the table followed by a Japanese hot pot each. My children 9&10 loved it. The sake tasting was amazing,...

We came here just for the private onsen. (First time! A bit nervous about the nakedness). Called the day prior to book for 3 people and were advised we didn't need to bring anything. Arrived and the lady at the reception was friendly and prompt and led us to our private onsen. I think there are 2 onsens as we...

I am tempted not to review this ryokan because it needs (selfish) to be my secret hideaway. But as the reviews already show, it's too late. Yes, this place is perfect. The best ski accommodation I've ever experienced anywhere in world. In fact, I find it hard in all my travels to think of a better place, anywhere. If it...

There is no better place than Shiroumaso in Hakuba. Everything was perfect. Location was perfect. Conveniently located 5mins walk from the Happo Bus Station and 5mins walk to the Happo Ski Routes. Everything you need is within a short walking distance to the ryokan. Make sure you ask the staff for suggestions where to get ski rentals and etc because...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Resting at the base of Hakuba Happo-one ski area, Shirouma-so is a modern Japanese ryokan (inn) combining both traditional wood and modern Japanese "Wa" architectural styles, resulting in a creative and beautiful design. From the entrance featuring wooden pillars and beams preserved from the building's agricultural beginnings in the Edo period, to rooms with large windows and views of the northern Alps, you can relax, place yourself in the hands of Nature, and refresh yourself in the warmth of this historical ryokan. Shiroumaso is appreciated by many guests as a convenient base for skiing, snowboarding, or the numerous outdoor activities of the summer months, as well as a hub for touring Shinshu, Azumino, and other regions within Nagano. ... more   less
