We as a family of 4 really enjoyed staying at the Nozawa Grand. The customer service was impeccable and they did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. The views from this hotel which is situated on a hill just a short stroll to the...More
Stayed in the 'Special Japanese/Western-style' room on the 4th floor and could not have asked for more. The hotel staff were so accomodating and helpful. The room was large, well equipped (with warmed toilet seat!) and the multi-course Japanese 'banquets' were magnificent for adults and...More
We really enjoyed our stay here. From the ensuite onsen, the provided robes, slippers and socks, excellent restaurant and extremely helpful staff, it made our stay very pleasant and allowed us to have an unforgettable and uniquely Japanese ski experience.
We stayed 4 nights in February 2016. We enjoyed our stay very much. Room is newly renovated. We love our Japanese & western room, that's two single beds with a tatami area.

Miss Lawrence went out of here way to make sure that we had a great stay. She was the only English speaker on staff at the time and her concern for our well being was really touching. She also corrected an error which resulted in...More

Hi, we've often used a bus company called Nagano Snow Shuttle (which you can book on line) which takes you from the airport directly to Nozawa Onsen. From there it's a short stroll up to the hotel (up a bit of a hill but the views are worth it). It takes about the same time as trains and buses with waiting/transfers, but is so much easier and they also have a couple of convenience/toilet stops along the way. The last trip we did in January we got a train from Hiroshima to Nagano then we hired a private van (for 8 of us) which took us from Nagano Station directly to the front door of Nozawa Grand Hotel. Cheers, Angela

We saw a large shop at the Nagasaka station so maybe there is a variety there. We believe St Anton is not the only shop at Hikage Station. For basic needs the shops at Hikage should do fine. We rented from a shop in the basement of the same block. In fact it was the best shop so far in our limited experience. Anyway we did not see any other shop open at that time. So u may wish to shop around. Longer rental will have lower rates. But if u plan to ski unconnected places renting from the hotel would make sense but carrying the gear to and fro would be tiring unless u wanna rent from each shop at each new slope or station at higher daily rates. We had our boy with us so carrying stuffs up down the mountain in the wet snow on steep slopes steps gondolas daily was no go. The good thing about renting at the hotel is maybe u can ski or sit almost all the way back when the snow is good and the nearest Shin-Yu chairlift is operational. But we did not do that so u should check on the route for this distance. We had to trek through town to the Yu Road as the nearest Shin-Yu lift was closed and the trek was steep in parts.

Hi Margaret we hired and stored our boots and skis at st antons hikage as it was a 10 min walk up street and steep hill to the yu walk way, if you turn left out of hotel and walk 50 meters to a double chairlift it was an easy ride to hikage the lift ticket office was at the top of this chair, then a short walk to ski school. The lift tickets were cheaper through hotel reception x
