The guest room is quiet & clean. Hotel staffs are friendly with warm greeting.
Outdoor Hot Spring is wortth to try, but it's located outside of the hotel. It's not convenience when it's raining outside. Yet, you could enjoy a quiet hot spring bath since there was few people.
We had dinner at buffet restaurant in the hotel. Food variety and taste were all good. I like all the food provided. However, the seats arrangement was too squeezy. A Chinese server did not provide any solution when we raised this issue to her. The server didn't know how to operate the coffee machine when I informed her both coffee machines didn't work. After 10 minutes, it was solved by the restaurant manager after the server failed to seek other colleagues' help. It seems like something needs to be re-filled. I would have good dining experience if the service staffs could have been well-trained.
We walk around the hotel and like the view surrounding the hotel, especially the golf course. The temperature is just fine in summer, not hot/cold. We might plan a golf holiday here in the future.

Danscope 様 Thank you for your e-mail and your staying at Mizukami Kogen Hotel. Minakami-cho is a rich town with activities and nature, from now on, Tanigawadake, Oze hiking, rafting at the river, canoeing and lakes at the lake can be enjoyed with family At the hotel you can enjoy wire descent (forest zip line). If there is time to come to Minakami-cho, I think that we can stay again Thank you very much for staying with us. General manager
We just came back from a ski trip to Minakami Kogen where we stayed at Minakami Kogen Hotel 200. The day we arrived was Monday, and many families who stayed over the weekend was leaving. To say the least this is a family-friendly hotel; if you don't want to encounter small children perhaps this is not a place. In our plan meals were buffet-style at 1st floor or 11th floow restaurant, but the hotel also has an Italian restaurant. The 11th-floor restaurant boasts a great view of Tanigawa Mountains - that we could not get in there for the breakfast of the morning we were leaving because all tables were already full! (we were redirected to the 1st-floor one where there were ample tables.)
There are certain appeals of this hotel - one is obviously surrounding nature, which offers golf and other activities during summer and skiing and other activities in winter. For skiing, the ski area isn't too large; it has 4 ski lifts; but what is outstanding for family with kids is that it has rather large area of mild slopes where kids can practice easily. It has snow parks for kids as well, featuring Pokemon. It has a ski school for kids (from kindergarten age) and adults. Instructors were kid-friendly, too.
Another is its hot springs. They have one (well, one for men the other for women) onsen in the building and the other outside the main building. Unfortunately, because I sustained cold before and during the stay, I did not get to the second one. But from the first one the snowy moutain view was beautiful, too.
Generally the staff were friendly and kind; the lobby has a high ceiling (and so it was a bit cold...) with a fire place and a rocking chair in front of it, a pool table (can play with fee), a shop, etc. With many facilities and activities I am almost sure that you can find something to do even on days with unwanted weather... which is a plus. It is accessible from Tokyo with about 70 minutes' Shinkansen ride (to Jomo-Kogen) and a 50~70 minutes' free shuttle ride to the hotel (prior booking needed). Going back into Tokyo by Shinkansen, it was disappointing to see so many buildings and houses around Takasaki (one stop from Jomo-Kogen by 'Toki'), though still in Gumma Prefecture. But at Minakami, you can see mountains, trees, monkeys, and the like.

We have stayed here regularly for years and years. It just keeps getting better. I see negative comments on the buffet that I would completely reject. It is a Japanese hotel so I would not expect a lot of english being spoken. Not sure that's a negative as everyone is absolutely there to sincerely help. There is a huge diversity of buffet choices and responsive, welcoming service. We have used the Italian restaurant up top on multiple occasions. All the food is locally sourced. The Japanese influence on the food is wonderful and we are always taking pictures as it's so beautifully presented.
Ski tickets, rentals and lessons are reasonably priced. Equipment is good. Lift lines are nonexistent and the instructors are some of the friendliest I've ever encountered. Our 4 kids learned to ski here and love it. There are also 2 outdoor play areas for kids including sleigh riding/tubing and magic carpets to carry you back up.
The skiing area is small but the terrain is quite varied and includes a sleigh riding trail running aside the beginner trail. The lift operators help kids get on and off with great care.
In the summer the list of activities only starts at golf and tennis. There are also sorts of activities for kids plus a pool in August and hiking galore everywhere. There is no interruption of site lines by anything manmade (aside from the hotel) in any direction. It's truly an escape.
In any season the focus on kids and service is just wonderful.
If there is one issue it would be there is a limited program for dropping kids for the day. There is a nursery for babies (up to 6 but really not much use past age 2). The resort is largely designed for families who plan to be with their kids playing all day.
Apres ski is also limited as the again the focus in really on families.

Thank you for staying at Mizukami Kogen Hotel 200 this time. Thank you for enjoying the ski school. The staff is incomprehensible in English, so it will cause inconvenience to everyone. I would like to correspond with a smile correspondingly, I hope you enjoyed your stay. We will continue to stay with you in the future. Stayed here with my family in the year end period.
Room: Room was not spacious, but enough space for us (typical Japanese size). Futon was laid out quickly each night. View was lovely.
We had booked 2 rooms for 6 people (4 and 2). Due to the room types we booked, (family twin and standard twin), we had to be put on separate floors. This was a bit inconvenient, especially since the elevators were always busy with a full load of people.
Also, we booked a non smoking room, but other guests smoke in the hallways and in the elevator hall, so a few times it smelled like heavy cigarette smoke right by our room and by the elevator. Since it is a long wait for the elevator (5 mins at least when busy), we walked down the stairs to the floor below to wait for the elevator. The smoke smell by the elevator on our floor was too strong for us.
Ski Facilities: My son took the Japanese group class (we are fluent in Japanese), and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was his first time to ski, but he got to a good level by the end of the second 2 hr lesson. He was able to ride the lift with his class, and we are very satisfied with the ski school.
The ski rental and locker room area smells of cigarette smoke - heavy at times. It is because there is a double-door in the walkway leading to this area, and the outdoor smoking area is on the opposite side of this door. This was unpleasant for us.
Facilities: We arrived early on our check-in day, and were told we could have our suitcases held for us at the cloak counter. This cloak counter was down a short stairway, in the ski rental / locker area.
I asked the lady at the cloak counter in Japanese if there was a ramp or elevator to bring our luggage cart down, and she did not understand Japanese. She just kept repeating my question back to me, and looked puzzled. I asked in English, but she did not understand that either. Finally she called another staff (male) who was Japanese, and I was able to find out my answer. I decided not to have them store our things after all, because the cigarette smell bothered us, and we did not want our things to smell also.
Food: We arrived in the early afternoon, but the earliest dinner reservations I could make was 7pm. I was told that guests who stayed the night before filled up the earlier seatings by requesting them first thing in the morning.
At the buffet (1F) also, there was a lady serving rice who did not understand Japanese. I asked her for a small portion (少なめにお願いします in Japanese), and she gave me a huge scoop (more than the usual portion). I told her that was enough (in both Japanese and English), and she said "ok", then gave me another scoop of rice!!
The breakfast and dinner buffet selection was good. Lunch buffet was good also, but we had to rush since the time between the morning ski class and afternoon ski class is very short. It would be nice to have a little more time. The line to the cafeteria style restaurant was long, and so we thought the buffet would be quicker since my son had to return to ski school. We didn't have time to walk to the other lunch eateries.
Bath: The onsen was wonderful, and we did not mind walking across to the rotenburo building in the snow. The indoor bath was nice also.

Thank you for staying at Mizukami Kogen Hotel 200 this time. Sorry for the two rooms far away. I'm sorry I let you keep the elevator waiting. We will smoke cigarettes so that we can make you feel comfortable. I think that it was nice that you enjoyed the ski school. If you have a chance, please come and stay. Thank you very much for staying with me this time. General manager
