Ryochi and his team made us feel very welcome and at home. The map and quick 101 of the area was really helpful. There are a couple of eateries a few minutes walk away that are open after 5pm, unlike most of the town that closes before 5pm. The shared facilities were adequate and kept very clean. Having hot drinking...

Location: We hired a car and drove from Osaka to Kokuu which turned out to be a great choice. The alternative is to take the train, cable-car and taxi/bus which is probably more scenic. Room: We got the double room. There's only one, so book early if you want it. It's the closest to the lounge so can be noisy...

Kokuu is absolutely perfect for solo travelers wanting to experience Koyasan! Everywhere else in the area is quite expensive and a lot of the ryokan's don't accept single bookings. The location is great because of the easy access to the main bus terminal but these buses terminate quite early. It only takes 15-20 mins to walk into town. I walked...

Conveniently located near bus stop and walking distance from everything. Beautiful private bedrooms with heaps of space. Nice clean showers and toilets. Very warm common area and beds! Two mins walk from two cute restaurants. Would recommend tonkatsu-tei for the fried pork

Good location, close to bus stop and next to cemetery. Nicely designed and functional building. Pleasant common area. Wonderful staff. Very good food served (both breakfast and dinner were excellent and good value). Capsule bed was spacious enough. Clean toilets and showers. Guests were all nice and well-behaved, and it was mostly quiet after 10pm since most guests were getting...

We stayed here for one night while visiting Koysan. Like other reviewers we wanted to avoid the cost of a temple stay. We stayed in the cubes (we each had one). They were more spacious then I had imagined with some room for small luggage and hooks for clothes. The beds were comfortable. We stayed on the side by the...

The first 15 minutes on your arrival tell you all you need to know and how good this place is. Ryochi the host ran through all the attractions, best times to visit, best vegetarian places to eat, walking trails, return train times. You name it, he knew it. His map and info was our tour guide, and we had a...

The Koyasan Guest House is located at the West end of the mountain. We arrived in Koyasan on a cable car on the Eastside. There are public buses that is in sun with the arrival and departure of the cable car from/to Namba station , Osaka. It's certainly the best looking guest house/ hostel we have stayed at. The photos...

If you think staying in a tempel in koya-san is to expensive, than kokuu is a good alternative. Still it's a lot of money for a capsule room. But the place is nice, has good food, good location and this way you as a backpacker can still enjoy the beautiful koya-san.
