Bad thing first - staying in this hotel is expensive but we found it totally worth it.

We booked a package which included the room, the ride up and down the mountain (either cable car or cogwheel train and you can decide to go up one way and down the other way), an aperitif/appetizer/4 course meal at the Pilatus Kulm restaurant in the evening and breakfast. I'd recommend booking this package on their website as it seems you can save a lot of money that way.
Parking is possible at the valley stations for only 5 CHF a day (in June 2022).

The hotel facilities itself are decent but nothing spectacular in itself. The rooms are spacious, you have a comfy bed, a water kettle and tea/coffee but no other special amenities. But what you can get with your room is a spectacular view. I asked beforehand for a room with a view on Lucerne and the Vierwaldstättersee and we got exactly that. Absolutely loved the view.

Another bonus is staff. The check-in at reception was one of the friendliest I ever encountered. We got offered an ice tea while the receptionist Julian explained all the amenities and options we had. He explained where we would get our meals and we even got a small map with sunset and sunrise times and where to best experience them. A big shout out to Julian for being such a great source of information and being so welcoming, we really enjoyed the interactions with him.

Both the 4 course evening meal and the breakfast are served at the restaurant in the Pilatus Kulm hotel and the food, service and location (beautiful big room) were great.

On the mountain you have wild capricorns which seem to avoid the tourist crowds during the day but they did show up in the early morning and you could experience them up close. It's fascinating to see the ease in which they are able to climb the mountain.

Would definitely recommend staying here for the experience and hope to back again for a second time.

Located at the top of Pilatus mountain above the city of Luzen this hotel provides visitors with a unique experience one never forgets. The old hotel is lovely renovated and the rooms are spacious and well kept. Be sure to book the arrangement and not the single hotelroom. When you don't you also have to pay the trip with the cablecarts to the top. Good weather is a absolute must. So be sure to book with refundable annulement so you can change the date when the weather is bad. Would be a shame to book a room for 400 euro and don't see nothing.

As we arrived we were warmly welcomed by a receptionist. She immediately spotted where we come from and started speaking in our mother tongue, which we appreciated very much. In a friendly yet professional manner she provided all the information that we needed. The next day we wanted some advice and again Frau Stanislava Repkova provided great customer service and helped us a lot! What an asset to the Pilatus team she is! Our stay was fantastic, food was delicious and views were breathing! We will be back!

We stayed here for one night with 2 teenagers. It was a magic experience from start to finish! Yes it's expensive but totally worth it for the view and watching the sunset a must do. Staff at reception were super helpful and waiting staff in restaurant very attentive too. Dinner was included in our package and was delicious.

Had a great stay at the Bellevue.
My wife was a little concerned as the Cable Car made its way up and over the clouds up to the peak.
Upon arrival, we were met by name, and shown to our room.
OK, they are not the most modern, and a little dated, but you really are paying for the view.
We pulled back the curtains, and it was really like we were floating on the clouds. To have such a beautiful and uniterrupted view was amazing.
As the last cable car departed, the whole mountain became a peaceful oasis.
We did a few walks, and then cleaned up for dinner.
We met and mingled with 4 other guests, and we really felt like the whole mountain was ours.
The pre-dinner drinks and canapes were excellent (and as 1 reviewer mentioned, you could really just have that for dinner), The remainder of the meal was excellent, and of a very good standard. Not Michelin standard, but of really good quality.
Our evening was made when, after desert and coffee, it started to snow.
Coming all the way from Australia, and being able to stand atop a mountain, after heving eaten your weight in food, and to then have snow fall on your head in absolute slience was an event in itself.
We were up at sunrise to witness the glorious views-again, so peaceful and anazing.
Breakfast again was excellent, and really set us up for the day.
Again, it really was so peaceful until the "tourists" arrived for the day, which then signalled our descent down the mountain.
You should be awarre that they are currently remodelling the Klum hotel which sits 100m away from the Bellevue. This means there are lots of building materials, workmen, etc, and a little messy: If you can put this aside, the rest of the montain really is wonderful.
Peter, the hotel manager, really does have the Swiss art of service and diplomacy. He and his staff should be congratulated for making this experience a wonderful one.
If you want something a little different, and are happy with "nothing" to do at night but enjoy the piece and quiet and the views, then I would highly recomend

In most parts of the world, hotels and restaurants at high altitudes trade dramatic views for quality. In Switzerland, it's almost a national obsession to deliver experiences of a lifetime above the timber line - and the Hotel Bellevue at Pilatus Kulm is no exception. My son and I stayed there in April, too early in the season to ride the cog railway, but the ascent by cable car culminating with the "Dragon Ride" aerial tramway that rises 1,000 feet in 3.5 minutes and seeing the full extent of Lake Luzern still gives me chills.

The Hotel Bellevue shares the same check in as the older, more stately Hotel Pilatus Kulm, but we chose the Bellevue as it was somewhat less expensive and on the offer we purchased our meals were at the grand hotel anyway. Personally I liked the simple furnishings in the rooms and for one night it was comfortable.

What makes the top of Pilatus such a special experience is that at around 5 PM there is no transportation down or up the mountain - the day tourists leave and the top of the mountain is quiet - just a few people having a drink looking out over the alps, or settling in for a fine dinner. The silence and the shifting shadows as day turns to night is just extraordinary. I've shared some of my photos along with this review.

Dinner at the grand hotel was leisurely (on a late April night there were only 20 people in the Queen Victoria dining hall). The menu offered two entrees along with a salad, soup and a dessert. Our package included dinner, breakfast, room and transport up/down the mountain for 200CHF - a great value for such an experience. The staff - who must have to live up at the top - were friendly and accommodating. The dinner was excellent and breakfast very good as well.

I did notice that there were a number of well appointed meeting rooms below the terrace and it seems like this would be a great place for an off site meeting, something I'll keeping the back of my mind.

As several others have mentioned - in winter there's not a lot to do - but a good book and one of the outside lounge chairs and blanket are really all you need. In summer there are hikes of varying difficulty (and varying levels of vertigo-inducing pathways).

The Hotel Bellevue and the top of Pilatus in general is one for the bucket list.

Now that I've shared my review - I end with a small Pilatus story...

On August 18, 1971 I stood at the top of Mount Pilatus. It was a beautiful summer day as I recall, with crystal clear views of the Lake and Luzen below. With several hours to kill until the next train down the mountain, I came upon a small yellow sign pointing the way to the town of Alpnachstad, a "three hour hike" away.

I decided to hike.

As it turned out, it was an eight hour hike, zig-zagging along the mountain face, down through forests and pastures, and finally to the train station at the edge of the lake. Did I misread the sign? It's bothered me ever since.

47 years later (2018), I returned to the top of Pilatus with my son, and found the same sign. It did in fact say three hours.

We did not repeat the hike down...

The day starts and ends with only a few people at the top of Mt. pilatus because the first cable car isn't until 9 am and the last is at 5;45 or so. Otherwise the top is overrun with day trippers. The views are amazing though, and the rooms are sparse but clean and nice. Beds are ok. Dinner and breakfast are included and are very Swiss and very good.

Bottom line, the rooms are really expensive and not that modern. However, this is not why you come to Hotel Bellevue on top of Mount Pilatus.

The adventure of getting to this hotel is fantastic and the views are incredible. The advantage of staying the night on top of Mount Pilatus is that you virtually have the mountain to yourself after the tourists leave.

Our hotel room was dated but clean. The price of the room included a full dinner and breakfast, both of which were very good.

If you are planning a trip to Pilatus, an overnight at this hotel is definitely worth the money.

The hotel is accessible only through series of gondola rides or by the cable car. On the way up by the cable car there are 2 stops where there are restaurents and playing areas for children. At the second stop there is a rope park and a toboganning trail. The hotel itself is very neat and clean and has a very welcoming staff who is helpful. The rooms are also very nice with picteresque views. Though after six o' clock there is not much to do since the one and only souvenier store also closes down and the entire public leaves. But there are benefits to this. You get the view of the twinkling city in the night and can run around freely enjoying the breathtaking view of Lucerene and the lake.
