If you want to step away from the beaten path and live among the clouds for a few days...this is where you want to be. If you desire some privacy...they have ONE private room. Its amazing. Don't expect anything fancy...just expect to sip your morning coffee with the greatest view you could ever ask for.

I had such a wonderful time at the Mountain Hostel. Backpackers, families, and couples all stay here comfortably and have some great conversations in the evenings (while watching the sun set across the alps and the star some up). There are a number of great day hikes from the hostel of varying difficulty. The staff are happy to give helpful...

The Mountain Hostel was one of my favourite hostels in Switzerland. Location is amazing, just next to the cable car station in Gimmelwald. A stunning setting in which you wake up and go to sleep to an amazing view of the mountains. Location is in the middle of many amazing hiking trails-also some which work for rainy days. The vibe/culture...

Stayed there last week.... was leaving and was told to use bathroom at the gondola as they were "cleaning"........male staff walked into "girls" dorm while I was changing and did not leave started mopping the floor.... the owner "Petra" is ill mannered and rude, and chastises her staff regularly in front of guests.... watches every bit of food you take...

We didn't stay here but needed to do laundry. The wash house is down the path with two coin operated washers and dryers. If you forget to bring soap, you need not worry because there is a big bucket of laundry powder with a scoop and instructions. Laundromats seem to be a rarity in Switzerland so we are really grateful...

We were here for 2 nights in late April, 2016. We arrived to blue skies and we were completely shocked by the beauty of Gimmelwald and the Mountain Hostel's location. The next day everything was covered in snow, and I can say that we were grateful to get to see both sides of Gimmelwald's beauty. The Hostel itself is extremely...

Gorgeous location with breathtaking views. Should have known it was a great location when we ran into two other groups from the same part of Minnesota. Where else could you sit in a hot tub and look down across a beautiful tree filled valley and up at the Alps. We hosteled across Europe and it was almost like the people...

I arrived during a cloud covered evening. My bed was next to the window. I woke up to a fantastic view of the mountains in the morning. Ate a very good breakfast provided by the hostel . The host Petra advised a hike for me to take that was eye poppingly beautiful. Easily one of the best hikes of my...

There are very few hostels in the world offering views and serenity as incredible as Mountain Hostel. With a panorama of the Swiss Alps from our dorm window (my bed was right next to the window), this place was a relaxing way to spend several nights. Originally we had only booked one night, but this quickly turned into two, which...

This hostel was our best stay during all our months in Europe, even better than the luxury resorts we stayed at. The location and views were the best part but the hostel itself was great too. Beds are comfy enough and while showers cost a franc they are clean and well-kept. The main living area is fantastic, large enough to...
