Tasty and creative food, friendly staff, cozy and welcoming atmosphere, beautiful views, extraordinary decorations. Simply a wonderful and relaxing experience. We will for sure return often as it is worth every extra Rappen compared to the surrounding restaurants.

This is a historic (~1840) hotel up on the Kleine Scheidegg, a mountain pass below the Jungfraujoch. You trade off a fantastic location and amazing building with rooms that are small, in some cases don't have their own bathroom and a steep price. For me this worked. Food is solid, but nothing exceptional. Ambience in the end is 10/10.

As regular skiers in this area, a stay at this hotel was on our bucket list. It did not disappoint - all the charm and creaks that one would expect of a historic hotel - but with 21st century plumbing and food that merits a visit in its own right. When we stayed the Welsh chef produced particularly impressive fish dishes and (of course) outstanding lamb cookery. Not to forget waiting staff who were engaging and efficient.

A great old Grand Hotel in the midst of the impressive scenery of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. A place to relax and enjoy. With international service staff (English is a must) and a very good evening meal included in the room price. We only stayed one night, but it lends itself for a much longer stay - especially between the peak season, if you want to enjoy a quiet Kleine Scheidegg.

A sweet old fashioned hotel which is fine if you are robust, not looking for comforts and only here for a few days and out the entire day. Website is misleading in suggesting this is a grand deluxe establishment. The location is spectacular at the foot of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau with easy access to the Jungfraujoch and good if you want to go to climbing (as I did for my summer visit). My room was fine but rather like my university room- no TV, basin in the bedroom, round dial telephone, very plain but no hot water problems. Food was decent enough (just) and service was pleasant enough but there is no menu at dinner (though you can choose meat or fish), breakfast is skimpy (no croissants or scrambled eggs or bacon but only bread rolls and boiled eggs). Overall style is old English club like. Kleine Scheidegg itself incidentally has nothing but this hotel, two tourist shops, a railway station and two more basic hotels/restaurants. So its nice for the historically sensitive, super outdoors types but not if you are looking for some remote indulgence with some hiking and comforts mixed in.

On the face of it, this appears to be a charming old hotel, and in some ways it is, but some of the rooms are badly in need of modernisation, at least with respect to electrical fittings, window fittings, and bathroom facilities.

I have just returned from a full week there with my family. The rooms were very expensive and I felt very cheated at the end of it. Being up in the mountains it is not unusual to get strong winds sometimes in winter but one hopes that the winds stay outside when you close the windows. Well, the charming 19th century windows in this hotel let one hell of a draft in! The power then suddenly went off one evening and they couldn't fix it till late the following afternoon; the electrician explained that this was due to 19th century electrical fittings - not really anything charming about that either! The bathrooms are spartan - an old bathtub but no shower (they did work OK though), although there was a hot water problem one evening.

At the end of the week, reception offered a reduction of one night's cost which I thought was generous. Then two days later we received a fax from the owner Mrs. von Almen saying that she did not agree with reception and that she was booking nearly 300 euros against my credit card, to reduce the reduction I had been given. Sadly therefore there is even a degree of dishonesty by the owners. Naturally I am taking legal action , but to avoid other holidaymakers discovering all this and suffering, I thought it best to warn you.

On the positive side, the food was great, and the location for skiing is fantastic.

This hotel is totally unique. At an altitude of almost 7000 feet, It has an incredible location and an equally incredible history...and to wake with the North Face of the Eiger just outside the window is nothing short of spectacular.

However it is not the splendid isolation the photos suggest...the very busy Kleine Scheidegg railway station with restaurants and tacky tourist shops are right next door.

The place feels like it is is trapped in time which is very atmospheric. The decor is 1930's, there are no tvs etc and that is wonderful. But where do you draw the line between what might be called spartan chic and meanness?

Breakfast consisted of a loaf of bread (no toaster), some jam, rolled oats, walnuts and sunflower seeds and rock hard boiled eggs. That was it! Dinner was better but clear soup and a literally wilting salad bar began to wear by night three.

The room was fine, but no other than glasses for toothbrushes, nor a carafe for tap water. One pillow per guest and very small bath towels (although that seems common to most hotels now).

Whilst the restaurant staff were very friendly and very helpful, we found the front desk staff to be not willing to assist with what would be a common enough query - where to find hiking equipment. The waitress actually gave us the information.

Overall, we felt the hotel, under the same ownership for almost a century is keen to retain it's period atmosphere and traditions and whilst that is a worthwhile endeavour, there is equally an austere stiffness that comes across as lacking warmth, charm and generosity.

Splendid-looking old hotel which seems a bit of a museum to start with but, thanks to its high standards and attentive staff, actually suceeds in providing super-traditional but still pleasant accomodation and catering.

It is very quiet. There is no TV. Internet coverage is poor. The dinner arrangements are predictable. However all this is part of the charm and standards are generally very good. The weather was good when we visited in February but at this altitude (6,700 feet) they are susceptible to some violent storms and high winds. Whatever the weather I have no doubt the Bellevue des Alpes will keep calm and carry on.

We had reserved a room for one night while hiking in the area. The hotel is expensive but we were going to splurge for my birthday. We booked the least expensive room for $380 per night including breakfast and dinner for two. I specifically asked and was assured that our room had a view of the Eiger. The hotel is old and historic and we were really looking forward to staying there. The day before we checked in we were staying at a small B+B nearby and stopped at Bellevue Des Alpes for a glass of wine after hiking. We were told that the bar and restaurant was for guests staying there only. We were surprised. Most hotels welcome outside guests for dining or drinks. Later we met a couple who were also staying at our B+B. They walked down to the Bellevue after dinner for cocoa and were also turned away. The hotel was far from fully booked so crowding wasn't the problem. The next day after after hiking we checked into the Bellevue. Our room was small but very nice but it did not have a view of the Eiger. I went down to the front desk with a copy of their email saying the room had a view of the Eiger and asked about it. The woman at the front desk said "If you open the window and stick your head out and turn right , it does have a little view of the Eiger." I was stunned. She was serious. We asked to be moved to a room with a view but she said that would be an additional $100. I said that we would like to leave and go back to our "budget hotel" with the fabulous views. She said we would be charged 70% of the $380 if we left. We asked to see the manager and she said that she did consider our room to have an Eiger view even though one had to stick one's head out the window and turn right to see just a bit of the Eiger. She did agree not to charge us and we left. We were very disappointed as we were really looking forward to staying there.
