It was a great experience! The hotel is an old convent but with all the commodities. Beautiful swiming pool (not that big) with a great view of the castle. The room in the 2nd floor had a balcony facing the swiming pool. All the staff was super friendly and helpfull. You got to love everything in Alentejo!!!!

This ancient convent has been renovated into a charming hotel. The room was huge, with four distinct and independent areas: a spacious entrance hall with wardrobe, a large bathroom with bath, a bedroom full of light and a balcony overlooking the pool, the castle and the vast Alentejo plain. The service was very friendly and efficient, including recommendations on places... More

I hesitated over the rating, granted it is not 'really bad' but we found this hotel disappointing compared with both its online promises and the previous hotels we had stayed in in Portugal. Looking back, everywhere we stayed on our two week trip surpassed the Convento D'Alter. The poor impression at the start was made by the receptionist taking a... More

I stayed here for the weekend on December 2015 and it was greate. The convent was renovated recently and the common areas are very pleasent. The rooms were confortable and large enought. The only thing not great were the bathrooms, they seemed to be olddated. Some of the details need fixing, it seemed that some of the latest maintainance have... More

This is a good hotel (probably the best) in Alter do Chão. The rooms are good but not great ... they could be a bit more modern (specially the bathroom). The hotel facilities are, however, really different and special. You can walk through a renovated convent with lots of things to see. You also have a bar, a restaurant and... More

Very pretty hotel in a converted monastery. Nicely furnished and equipped. Rooms enormous by most any standard. Breakfast is nice in the now enclosed courtyard. I wish I could laud the food for other meals, but our lunch was not all that wonderful in the dining room. Food bland, and service while very nice was extraordinarily ill trained. Dining room...
