I have nothing but praise for this place. Jesse was such an incredibly welcoming host who made us feel like we were staying at his home. The food was great and plentiful with three plates to share between couples. The girls who served the food proudly described each dish and tried hard to be professional and courteous. They were so...

We stayed for 2 nights and what we loved the most about this place was the service. The owners and the guides made all the effort in the world to make sure we were comfortable at all times. The restaurant is over the river with a super nice terrace view. The food was good. The rooms were pretty simple and...

We stayed here for 2 nights after reading some great reviews for the river boat tours - we weren't disappointed. The boat driver was amazing at spotting wildlife, from endangered birds to crocodiles and monkeys. The night boat ride was incredible - the glistening eyes of the animals was amazing! The lodge itself was very basic. The fans didnt work...

I have just spent an amazing two days at this lodge with a friend and my partner. We were thoroughly spoilt with 4 amazing cruises and wonderful food. Also the best showers we experienced in all of Sabah! The staff were incredibly friendly and our river guides were well informed and brilliant at spotting all sorts of wildlife. If you...

We are a family of four (kids 13 and 6 yrs) who visited Kinabatangan area with an adult friend in February '14 for 2 nights. Barefoot lodge was recommended to us by Bike and Tours who are really top jungle experts from Lahad Datu. Barefoot's got a perfect riverside location, across its restaurant there's a nice rocky jungle hill with...

First off, we LOVE the jungle so Sukau was high on our list of places to see in Sabah,Borneo. We did not set up a ride or lodging ahead of time as we came from Semporna by bus(4-5 hrs.). You are dropped off on the main road at the crossroad to Sukau. Fortunately there were some cars for hire as...

My partner and I loved this place. It was a great value -- inexpensive and we still felt like we got a full Kinabatangan River experience. Rooms are set back a bit, but the café is right on the river with a great view of rocky outcroppings opposite. Tea, coffee, water and cookies set out all day and comfortable chairs...

The location feels very remote and away from the tourists and the main traveler places. It is right on the river. We were a group of 4 and there was only one other person staying at the lodge so it was very quiet. The four of us had our own private river cruise which was amazing and we saw lots...

We loved this place. It is run by the lovely Anna, backed up by Auntie Rose (the cook), Sharul, cook and boatman/guide and the fun Acil who was the boatman guide for all but our night cruise. The rooms are basic but clean and I had my best night's sleep there out of all the places we stayed. The dining/sitting...

“If you are a light sleeper, remember to bring earplugs - there is a fruit tree above the rooms. When I was there, it dropped fruit (maybe rambutan?) on the tin roof all night - what a noise! Also, there is a switch on the verandah to turn off the porch light - otherwise the room is very light at night.”
