We had another fantastic family holiday here this year. The place , the staff , the grounds are all perfect. Infact we feel as if we are going to our home in Vignacastrisi every time we visit! Having the grand suit Sonia means that we can invite our family down and there is lots of space. The breakfasts are superb,...

Right in the center of a rather quiet, unremarkable town (for May), is this beautiful b&b style lodging. The room we stayed in was spacious and naturally cool. The attractive courtyard and pool are shaded by trees and there's a good restaurant on the hotel grounds. You need a car / bike to get to the seafront, which is about...

We were lucky enough to spend a week here in September. We’ve visited Puglia several times and this was our first - but will not be our last - stay south of Lecce. The Palazzo is absolutely delightful. It is a conversion of a large village Palazzo with separate self-contained suites all opening onto the walled courtyard garden. The garden,...

We joined some friends in a very spacious apt, well kept, and well furnished. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout, and we enjoyed our one meal in the hotel. The weekend in question was very busy in this quiet village - the annual religious festival including a lot of music, for all ages, and an impressive display of...

On the outside you wouldn't really know it was there but inside it is an oasis of calm. The garden is beautiful with lots of shady sitting areas and a pool to lounge by. There is parking at the back of the hotel down a quite narrow street. There is a restaurant next door which is excellent and on Friday...

The Palazzo is an interesting boutique hotel with 15 rooms. Over the last five years the owners have been restoring the buildings that were largely unoccupied and in bad shape. Unfortunately the quality of some of the restorations fail to live up to the grandeur of the architecture. Our bathroom was large outfitted with an equally large modern oval tub...

Oasis of calm tranquility - we spent a week here, there is as much or as little to do as you want. For the active - cycling, walking, trips out, cooking and wine tasting. For the inactive - pool, spa and lots of places to sit, chill, read and relax in sun or shade.

This review is long overdue. My husband and I visited Puglia over a year ago and still talk about it as it were yesterday. We first stayed at Palazzo Guglielmo and what a treasure. It was remote yet conveniently located, easy to travel to the sea or neighboring villages and attractions. The delicious meals were served outside in the beautiful...

Hidden away at the tip of Italy's stiletto heel is the most perfect boutique hotel. Small but perfectly formed, it provided our exhausted family with a wonderful escape this summer. We loved our spacious apartment, although the aircon was not brilliant so the nights were a little sticky but that was the only fault to be found in an otherwise...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Palazzo Guglielmo is just one of the many aristocratic medieval palaces located in the Terra d'Otranto area, all witnessing the economic power of this land during the historical period from the late 17th century to the birth of the Kingdom of Italy. At that time, the ground floor was used for the offices and the warehouses to put the olive oil, the wine and the food coming from the fields. This floor was crowded by the housekeepers, workers and farmers that since early morning worked in the garden or in the lounge. The present breakfast room was originally a horse stable, while the swimming pool area was full of chickens and rabbits. Food was stored inside the wells located on the left of the lounge, while one of the rooms was used as a garage for the only car that was present in the town. Granaries and storerooms were located in the cellar. The rooms where our guests stay, used to be the kitchen and the laundry. Here the housekeepers washed the laundry with hot water and ashes or prepared the cheese using fresh milk. Workers, shepards, men and women were involved in different activities, among which were the maintenance of the palace and of the warehouses. At the beginning the main sources were corn, oil and wine but when the tobacco was introduced, the palace was enlarged in order to include the new product. The new part of the palace included the tobacco warehouse (Via Napoli), where during many years the local women worked. The palace became the economic and social centre of the village and its importance grew during the years, especially after II World War, when the family started to deal with politics and administration. In some special occasions the palace was also used for popular and religious festivals. One of these occasions was the celebration of the festival for the Saint Protector (the Virgin of the Holy Rosary), that takes place in October. ... more   less
