I have read the last 3 reports (two * star reviews and one **star review). There seems to be a massive discrepancy as to what we experienced and what the 3 reports say. We arrived for a three day stay on B&B. We were welcomed warmly and pleasantly. We were showed to our rooms and ours was without a doubt worthy of its 4 star AA rating. It was spotless, tea/coffee tray well stocked, all toiletries including flannels (a miss on a lot of hotels these days) and quite a large room. We found it to be exceptionally warm for the full length of the stay with no heating on and window open. Not bad for December. Apparently on questioning the incredible low cost of no heating it was explained it was all down to the type of bricks used in the build. We decided to eat in the restaurant two nights. Both nights we had two courses and a total of 4 different starters and 8 different meals between the four of us over the two days. All the food was hot and well cooked with 4 star service. We genuinely could not fault this service and presume the 3 bad reviews were just down to bad luck on the days or the restaurant was short staffed for some reason. After the meals we relaxed in the comfy bar and had very pleasant evenings. The Owner spoke to us on several occassions to see if all was okay. We were so pleased with our stay that we will definately be going back. Not only for the great hotel and its restaurant but for its handy location. Keith Chester

The hotel has now been taken over by new management ,we have lost Nick. Having said that the new manager seems to be doing very well in these difficult times. We had 2 superior rooms which were very comfortable ,the evening meal we thought had improved ,the choice was very good ( can recommend the steak and ale pie), breakfast choice is reduced for the cold serve yourself selection but the hot choice very good. The service by the staff was friendly and efficient.
One thing l do find strange is if you book with Booking.com you pay nothing upfront but if you book direct with The King William there is a £25 non-refundable deposit per person, strange considering the inn would have to pay a service charge to Booking.com anyway.
All in all can can still recommend this as a good value for money stay.
We have stayed several times at the King William for bird watching as it is well placed for good birding sites such as Titchwell RSPB, Holme NWT, Snettishsm RSPB

Arrived late Saturday afternoon. Had a good welcome and after checking in was shown to our room. Lovely and warm and spacious. Very well appointed and twin aspect had character. After making use of the coffee making facilities showered. Read shower instructions as water not free flowing. Once read what to do it was fine. Shower gel and shampoo nice. Headed to the bar for some Nibbler beer from a local brewery. Very nice. Had reserved a table in the restaurant which was the thing to do as very busy. Had whitebait and pate for starters and pork belly stuffed with black pudding and venison casserole with haggis mash and crispy onion rings. Lovely but onion rings under cooked and not crispy. On checking out was offered loyalty card and will be making use of this and returning. Very good value. Nick the landlord greeted us and made us welcome. Breakfast good very good lots of choice. Thank you Nick and team.

I called to enquire "Pet friendly?"
Booked a table in the bar for one pm - 30 Aug
Asked the question "Do you a vegetarian option"
"We have an extensive vegetarian option, I thoroughly recommend the vegetarian lasagne"
Arrived on time.
The man outside asked if we had a booking.
His manner lacked interpersonal skills and his statements re masks etc didn't instill confidence.
We ordered our meals vegetarian options - TWO lasagne or veggieburger.
So much for the extensive vegetarian options.
We waited for an hour for the meals to arrive.
Lukewarm veg, dried out lukewarm chips (thank goodness there was only a few) lukewarm fish.
My friend enjoyed the steak and ale pie, but considering the hour long wait and the comments re masks and we are not a shop etc plus the non fizzy orange juice and tonic water we were disappointed and even though we live fairly locally we won't be back

I came to this part of Norfolk to see the Snettisham Spectacular at the RSPB site and this is a very handy place to stay as it is very close to Snettisham. The tens of thousands of knots and other waders can be seen murmuring as the high tide comes in and that tends to be either in the early morning or at dusk, so having a place to stay close to the RSPB reserve is much needed. This inn fits the bill very well as it is only a 10 minute drive from Snettisham and offers comfortable rooms, a cozy bar and good food with friendly service. The menu contains some pub grub favourites, and I enjoyed the whitebait followed by steak and ale pie. They had a good selection of wines too, including a Norton's Malbec from Mendoza, which was rich and full bodied. I'd stay here again.

Arrived slightly early and greeted by the owner, checked in but before going to our rooms had a very welcome beer in the garden area.Shown to our rooms which had been recently refurbished and were lovely, with views over the rear gardens.Teas and coffee making facilities provided with complimentary biscuits.
Very nice bathroom with shower over the bath.
We had a very good nights sleep on the large comfy bed.
The staff throughout were very friendly and helpful. The evening meal was well cooked and presented with a good range of choices. We did feel that the food prices were a little on the high side(ie 2 x scoops of ice cream for £6.00)
Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice all brought to the table.Special thanks to the lady serving breakfast in the restaurant who did a marvellous job.
All in all a very pleasant stay in this inn for which the owner is trying very hard.
Well done!!

This inn is well situated for bird reserves on the north norfolk coast,Snettisham,Titchwell andHolme.

Felt very safe as regards to Covid 19 all steps take that should be.

We have stayed at the King William IV over the past several years and have always been very satisfied with both the hotel and the service received.
Finding out when we booked that it was now owned by RedCat Pubs was slightly worrying as pub companies do not generally have a good reputation.
On check in payment in full for our booking was demanded. No other hotel I’ve ever stayed in anywhere in the world has ever demanded that, payment is usually finalised on departure. It felt as if we weren’t trusted to pay, even though the hotel had card details from our reservation.
Then when we went to our room we found that there was no bedspread (a brocade one in gold which was a feature of the rooms) and that there was also no clock, a feature I’ve found in every hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Why would any hotel remove clocks from a room? Apparently the new manager had actually put all the bedspreads in the bin for the refuse collectors t because she didn’t like them!
I’ve since discovered that RedCat Pubs is owned by the ex-Chief Executive of Greene King so I’m not overly surprised that the standards have gone downhill with a vengeance given their reputation as “Greedy King”.
One thing that hasn’t changed is the standard of service from the Staff at the King William; that is as good as ever. The new manageress is totally unsuited to run a country inn like the King William. We know quite a few of the locals and they too seem very disappointed in what is happening to their local.

This review reflects our own experiences which may not be the same for others.
We booked this hotel for a short break after a trying few months. The hotel is located in a small, traditional Norfolk village close to main routes but in a very rural setting. On-site parking is plentiful and free.
The hotel is stunning. A traditional pub feel with indoor and outdoor seating for meals and drinks. We booked a double room which was immaculately clean, well appointed with a large comfortable bed and modern bathroom. The room overlooked the beer garden and adjoining farmland which was beautiful.
We booked bed and breakfast and reserved a table for dinner twice. The menu was varied with typical pub favourites. It was tasty, well presented and plentiful. Breakfast was very filling!
We were keen to feel CV19 safe but without feeling like we we in a hospital and the hotel has got the balance exactly right. Precautions are sensible, easy to follow but not intrusive.
The staff are friendly, professional and on hand for anything you need.
All in all this was a lovely hotel in a great setting, safe and friendly and is highly recommended.

Found this treasure while searching Booking.com for hotels near Hunstanton. Only stayed the one night because that was all we needed, but would have happily stayed much longer if we needed to stay in the area. The Inn was easy to find, had ample parking, a lovely furnished terrace, superb garden, pleasant bar and very happy and cheerful staff. Our room was as good as you would get in a 4* hotel. Very clean, bath and shower, TV and Tea/Coffee making facilities with biscuits. The Restaurant provided an excellent choice for dinner and the food was well prepared and served. The full English Breakfast (included in the room charge) was huge and I just could not eat it all. That has never happened before.

Went for 3 nights end July ‘20. You really must stay here if intending to be in the north Norfolk area and within easy reach of coast but without the hassle of being in a busy resort. Nick the owner and his staff have done an amazing job in making this inn a truly wonderful, cosy, inviting and warm place to come. It’s simply delightful. Every detail thought about.
We had the most wonderful and delicious breakfast, lots of hot options to choose from and also the buffet of cereals and fruit which you have to request from the lady waitress ( to be safe under covid). Ample tea and toast and they filled our flask with tea every day for our journey out! Asked for a packed lunch and they obliged (extra fee obviously).
Ate every night in the pub restaurant - limited choice but everything was really good.
Sleep comfort 2nd to none - huge bed and so comfy.
Air con in room 9.
All in all just absolutely fabulous!
Thanks Nick, and we hope to come again from Yorkshire soon x

The bar is very dog friendly. We ate in the bar on a Monday evening before a quiz night. 2 or 3 well behaved pooches in there no problem at all (and we are not dog owners.)

Dear Kevin, Peter W. from Kings Lynn is correct. We do offer wheel chair access and WC facilities but these are indeed only reachable from the dining areas. I'm sorry to inform you that we do not offer ground floor rooms or wheel chair access to upstairs bedrooms. Briarfields is a very good recommendation by Peter. Kind regards,
