Not a good first impression walking along the narrow corridor to our ground floor room as the carpet looks very worn and in need of replacement. So different from the actual room which was spotlessly clean with new looking carpet. Standard Travelodge room and bathroom, but large shower with new curtain and plentiful hot water. Despite overlooking the carpark and main road, we heard no outside noise including traffic sounds. We were impressed that the room had a laminated sheet giving local information including taxis, cafes, pharmacy etc ( we've never had this in any other Travelodge and it was much appreciated) We had a lovely evening meal at the Church Mouse restaurant next door, also one excellent breakfast and one which was so poor that we left after requesting and receiving a refund. So you pay your money and take a chance that a good chef is working that shift. We would certainly stay at this Travelodge again

We stayed 4 nights here on a trip to the north-east. The reception was efficient and friendly. the room was large AND had 2 chairs!!! It was clean and was not visited by staff for the duration of our stay by agreement. Breakfast was extra and not really good value for money - a pack containing milk, cornflakes, pain au chocolat, a cereal bar and a carton of orange juice. it was all chilled which was fine for the milk and the juice but not for the pain, which was rather solid. There was a restaurant next door which we used on 3 of the nights.
Most importantly, we felt Covid safe here.

We were welcomed at reception by Kris who was very friendly, our room was clean and comfortable and cosy with complementary tea and coffee, there is extras available at reception if needed, the bed was extremely comfortable with additional pillows if required, the en suite was nice with nice white towels but toiletries could be better so take your own. We were offered a breakfast box which we declined but we could have gone to the Church Mouse which is adjoining but this place isn’t run by Travelodge. Would definitely return

I tried booking a double room for 2 adults direct on the website but was not able to progress when I got to the payment page. I eventually had to call & was charged extra for doing so.
On arrival check in was less than inviting, reception was a tiny little cubby hole with a man who charged even more than I was quoted on the phone by travelodge. He offered breakfast the following morning but then said it wasn’t value for money, pointing at a poster behind us, we declined the offer of a boxed breakfast for an additional £11.
When we got to our room there was one towel on the bed, none in the bathroom for the two of us. I requested additional towels the next morning from the cleaning staff who were not overjoyed at my request.
The hotel was so noisy all night, from banging doors to men talking, this went in all through the night.
It’s a shame as we had such a lovely evening at the Church Mouse, it was ruined by the oversights at the hotel.

Decent room. Double bed. Easy check-in. Free parking.

Bed was nice and comfy. They provided extra pillows in the room.

Shower - water pressure was a bit rubbish. Shower gel dispenser available.

Checkout was very easy - drop the key in the box on the way out.

Easy to drive to.

Only annoying this was the room was half price if you booked on the day.

Booked for 4 nights. It was our first time visiting family in Durham. The man on reception was very helpful. friendly and welcoming. My Mum cannot walk far and we had a disabled room on the ground floor. It was lovely, clean and fresh. The bathroom was a wetroom and it was so easy to use and there was a chair for Mum to sit on. There was plenty of tea, coffee, sugar and milk when we needed it. The cleaning staff were very helpful, but also did not bother us if we did not need anything. The tv was a decent size and able to watch it in bed. We also took our dog with us and he enjoyed his walks as there was greenery and trees to keep him happy. Really cannot think of one downside to our stay. Would like to say "thank you" to everyone.

Good stay at a great price.
Stayed for a family wedding, for 2 nights ( Friday and then on the Sunday).
Location is great and despite being on a very busy A road which the room was facing, it wasn’t noisy at all so great double glazing.
Reception staff for both check ins were so welcoming and helpful.
Room was fine - exactly what Travelodge claims them to be! No surprises when you enter the room!
Bathroom spotless.
The only downside was that the hotel is generally a bit dated ( I think some Travelodge’s have had a makeover but this one hasn’t). There was a not particularly pleasant perfumed smell I think from maybe ‘shake n vac ‘ on the carpet? And I assume that this may be because it is dog friendly and is to try to disguise any doggy smells? Or just because the carpet is in need of replacement? Whatever the reason, it was the only downside to this hotel .

Room Tip: Massive car park. Reception for the hotel is around the back of the building. Pub next door does...

Upon arrival we were informed by receptionist that our stay had been cancelled, without having any email or message or phone call to let us know this. I then asked why in a polite and calm manner as I was sure it wasn’t a big deal just a miss understanding, and was told your gunna have to calm down or you won’t be getting any help. To then after an hour be told we could rebook online but have to pay full price when the money for the other room is still with the hotel, so me and my partner booked another room £80. We were given our keys at 6:55 and we had been there since 5:15 as we had reservations in Durham for 7:30 and needed to get showered and changed and stuff. We then arrived in our room to be greeted by other peoples toenails allover the carpet next to the door and all on the bathroom floor. The shower tub was full of muddy footprints, the so called extra fresh pillows covered in makeup stains what it looked like, the desk top thick with dust, cobwebs in every corner. A mattress against the wall of our room. The bottom sheet of the bed was filthy, the carpet covered in hair, crumbs and toenails. The teacups still had fill lines from previous use of them, ended up sleeping without pillows because of how disgusting they were and how rude the receptionist was we just needed a place to settle for the night, never would I ever recommend this place to anybody as it may aswell be the worst ever hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. We were kept awake by what sounded like drunken young adults roaming the corridors after midnight and were continually walking up and down being very loud singing and shouting for about 10 minutes? Words can’t describe how utterly vile this hotel is.

This was a last minute booking on the day. At first I was a bit concerned when I saw the tiny reception and was handed a key rather than a keycard. Thoughts of very old and run down rooms came into my head but thankfully there was no need to worry. The rooms have obviously had a recent refresh and the carpets looked brand new. Bit of an odd room layout, not your typical TL but still very comfortable and clean. The best part for me was the direct connection to the Church Mouse next door where I could pick up drinks and food to take to the room. You can of course sit in there and eat or have a drink. If you time it right you can sit in front of the real flame fire. No shops nearby so do make sure you stock up ob essentials before you go there. Breakfast wise there’s just the Breakfast boxes but they do provide a list of local breakfast options at reception. So another big thumbs up to TL, will definitely come again! 😊

We have been using Chester-le-Street Travelodge for several years now as a stop over on our way to visit family in Scotland, so you could call us 'regular flyers '. Our dog travels with us too. Because of this we request a particular room, at the end of a corridor which prevents him barking at passing guests. Kris and his team are always very friendly and helpful. Also a good place to stay as The Churchmouse pub/restaurant is attached.
