We were pleased to find this hotel and restaurant for our visit to the north east and had a very pleasant stay. It’s a lovely hotel and restaurant in a great location for Beamish, Durham and surrounds, with a great restaurant, excellent food and fabulous staff.
After a friendly welcome we were shown to a ground floor room which was spacious and clean with the added bonus of patio doors leading to a decking area outside. En-suite bathroom is modern and spotless with a corner bath, and shower.
We ate breakfast and a couple of evening meals in the restaurant which were all outstanding, nothing is too much trouble for the staff in the restaurant, great customer service here. We had a few problems on the first night when we found the heating and hot water wasn’t working. Although it couldn’t be fixed until the end of the next day, we cannot fault their efforts to get things fixed quickly and compensate us for the inconvenience.
Micheal has a great team and we would definitely stay here again.

Overnight stay on way to Beamish. Good, clean comfy room.
Enough parking, restaurant next door was excellent and service was excellent we would definitely highly recommend. Great choice of food.
Breakfast was at 10.00 too late for us we were offered 9.15 am but it was cereal only so opted out . Will find alternative. Two miles from Chester le Street which has all amenities.

The hotel accommodation is in a separate building adjoining the inn. Guests are advised in advance to go to the bar to checkin. Me : "Good Evening, I have come to checkin for 2 nights". Response: " You must pay now" I explained that I had just completed a long journey and wanted to go to the room to freshen up then return for a meal. So a young restaurant waiter was told to take me to my room. The room was modern ,fine and clean except that it appeared that somebody had used the toilet and not bothered to flush it. However it just required a good clean. No teabags, one pack of biscuits and 2 mini pots of milk ! Returning from the restaurant it is necessary to use a keypad to enter the hotel block .This is fixed at waist level and impossible to read standing up so one has to kneel on the floor to use it. Not easy for an arthritic 70 year old. I had to leave on Sunday morning before the published breakfast time and after asking, was offered a bowl, spoon , pack of Cocopops and half a 4 pint bottle of milk. As there is no fridge I suggested that the mini UHT milks might be better. On Monday I went for breakfast at 0830 to be greeted by two other hotel residents who said that the chef had just arrived and breakfast was 0900 (checkout is 1000). After a short time the chef appeared (there were no other staff) and asked if I wanted breakfast. "Yes, please" I said "what is the choice" Reply "English Breakfast" , so that is what I opted for ! No juice offered; a few mini Kelloggs boxes on the bar and the half 4 pint bottle of milk left on the table. Tea was offered but go and find your own cups (no tea-spoons). The meal was fine and arrived by 0915. The other couple had been to The Moorings on several past occasions and said that the good reviews were before the establishment was taken over six months earlier. It seems that the restaurant is the main business and that the hotel side of little interest. I found the cleaner to give my keys to .I will not be back

I took my daughter to the Moorings today for a well deserved catch up and lunch. The staff were amazing as was the food. My daughter requested something slightly different from the menu but the chef was more than happy to accommodate her request. Everything was clean inside and out. The only comment would be the tables were scratched and perhaps need varnished again. Hats off to the waiting staff and the chef for making our lunch so very enjoyable.

Stayed here for 2 nights as it was close to Beamish museum. Room was clean and comfortable with free WiFi and a smart telly to keep the children entertained during the evening.

Breakfast which was included was really nice with plenty of choice between continental and full English. We used the bar for one evening meal which again we had no problems with good food for a good price.

Staff were friendly and helpful during our stay.

We have stayed here before a number of years ago,and always been pleased.
The Moorings is now under new management and is even better than before!!!
Ashleigh and her team cannot do enough for you,so pleasant and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble.
The food is superb, accommadation very reasonably priced.
The location is ideally situated to a visit to Beamish, and other local attractions.
Would highly recommend.

Last minute booking for a colleague and I, there is no real book-in procedure and we had to go to the bar but don’t let that take away from the experience. The rooms are lovely, the location is slightly remote but the meal in the
Restaurant was fantastic, excellent value for money and the staff including Johnny and a lovely lady whose name I don’t know but owns horses was first class. Would stay again.

Warm welcome, attentive service, nice atmosphere, lovely food. The manager & his team went out of their way to help us celebrate a birthday.
On a Friday night there's a singer in the downstairs bar, which helped make it more of a night out than just 'meal out.'

The food was great, but I think what sets the place apart a bit is the friendliness of the staff.

We were visiting the area and this hotel was central to everything we wanted to visit. Quite close to Beamish museum. Hotel is a bit of an add on to the bar and restaurant. It's nice and clean but the bar staff aren't very hands on with booking in and such...bar itself is nice, live music on Friday nights which was lovely. Main attraction here is the restaurant which is amazing..worth staying at the hotel for that alone
