We loved our stay at Village Val Jalbert. Beautiful site ... breathtaking waterfall, took the cable car to enjoy the view of the valley, etc. Our lodgings above the general store were perfect...beautiful large room tastefully decorated with all the amenities we needed. We ate at the Bistro du Moulin. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and courteous. We highly recommend a visit.

We came across this gem while cycling the Route des Bleuets. We had planned to camp but because of rain opted to stay at the hotel. Best decision of the trip. The hotel was actually a luxurious room in one of the former houses of the people living in Val Jalbert. We also enjoyed dinner and breakfast on site. Both meals were excellent. Unfortunately, the service was very slow at dinner there only being one server for the entire dining room, but on the bright side, we had time to digest. We very much enjoyed the site. The old houses were incredible. The views of the falls amazing. The story of the town very interesting, as was the audiovisual show. Definitely will return if I am back in Lac St Jean area.

It was such a great time. Kids 8 and 11, also thought it was interesting. We spent the night....Food was excellent. Unique, quiet place to be. The characters, and homes were awesome to see. Tour on the bus was fun....even the 765+ stairs to the top for the views was good to do. Overall, lovely for a day trip / 1 night trip.

We purchased a package in August 2020 for a family of four with two kids (10,5,). Package includes lodging, tickets to visit Val Jalbert, Dinner and Breakfeast. The site is as incredible as when I visited as a kids in the 80s. The restored site adds some interesting visits, but it's the ruins of the old houses that are what makes this place magical. We climbed the stairs to the top of the mountain for a fantastic view of the surroundings and the lake. Staying onsite really makes the experience one of a kind by granting access to select few people outside of regular hours. The rooms are comfortable and of good size. They need to buy better pillows, they were BAD. Mattress was comfortable, showers had plenty of pressure and hot water. There is a parking dedicated to the lodgers and it makes accessing everything easy. Dinner was good, as expected, the highlight were the Foie Gras appetizer, nothing fantastic there. Breakfast however was one of the best I have had. Everything the family had was delicious. They really bring up a notch all of the classics and the quality of the food served exceeds all of the classics Breakfast chains by leagues. The package is a must, even it it looks pricey, it is fantastic value!

Three hours was a bit rushed to see everything Val-Jalbert had to offer. The paper mill and waterfall have an interesting history behind them, though the full trek to the original falls was not worth it (the smaller falls is distant and not particularly impressive). The main falls by the mill are far more imposing. The dilapidated buildings are fascinating, and it was absolutely worth visiting each building we could. Walking along the water also offered nice views of the river. It's not a cheap visit, but we agreed that it provided appropriate value for what we paid (and support that our admission helps with upkeep and future restorations).
