Sandy was a gracious hostess who went out of her way to help us right from enquiry and booking stage (which we did informally via email: info@wisdom-inn.com / http://www.wisdom-inn.com/). Her English was good and she had plenty of advice to give on what to do in Dazhai and how to walk the hills. Our room was small but comfortable, in Swiss chalet style. It was not terribly well insulated but there is not a lot of noise in this small village (could be chilly in winter). There was plenty of hot water and the bathroom was very clean. The rice terraces are an amazing place to visit, especially in early summer when they're full of glistening water or at the end of the summer (September), before the harvest, when the wheat is yellow. We arrived just days after the harvesting which was too bad, but it was still quite beautiful. The women in the villages still wear traditional clothing and being in this place feels like you're in a by-gone era. We chose to stay in Dazhai due to the fact that we had 2 big suitcases with us and it wouldn't have been practical to have them carried to a village half-way up the mountain. If you want to stay in Tian Tou Zhai, then best you come with a backback! Wisdom Inn is right at the entrance to Dazhai, so this was why we chose to stay here. It's such a tranquil and unpolluted place that one could easily stop over for several days. We were only there for a night and a day and I'd say that was not really long enough. We'd love to go back again one day!

We had arranged our 1 night stay with the lovely owner, Sandy - whom has great English skills & from Shanghai, originally (I believe). She was easy to work with, even though our plans had to change several times. Transport was all taken care of by her & we had no issues (after walking quickly past the line of touts yelling at you to hire them, to find our young, but careful driver), so no need to pay the driver (research tipping practices in China, if you haven't already). The Guilin airport was interesting, quite empty & a slight Cold-War feel to it (this was our 1st day in Mainland China, so the "deposit your newspapers & radios" statement before getting off the plane came as a slight surprise.

The drive was long, through rice fields, then through a beautiful river gorge until you reach the small village in which this clean, basic guest house exists. Tip* - you should have Dramamine/Bonine in your travel meds bag for this ride if you're sensitive to motion sickness at all.

You will likely be greeted by a bunch of older women of the Hakka Tribe (known for their awesomely long hair kept hidden in a bun), who want to pack you luggage up the hill for you (these ladies are strong & capable, but you can't help but to feel bad if you were to have them haul your heavy bags up the mountain). Fortunately, this Inn is one of the closest ones to the end of the road, so you simply have to walk ~ 100' or so. A win, as you'll be dragging any rolling luggage across the cobblestone.

The Wisdom Inn had several (~4-6 or so) clean, basic rooms upstairs, although electricity was limited at times. Tip* - tall people, watch your head going up/down the stairs (this place was not built for tall folks). The water was hot, linens/blankets were clean & warm. The area is subject to very high humidity, especially in summer months, so be prepared to feel moist & cool at night. Things quieted down nicely in the evening. Sleep was good.

This proved to be an excellent home base while in Longji, and I would definitely stay again. You should, however, look around the village for much cheaper meals. I think we found some breakfast noodles/porridge (quite good, actually) about 2-3 doors up for ~ $2USD.

Excellent experience, wish we had more than 1 night there to allow exploration of the nearby villages. Sandy will give you the rundown on how to maximize your time to hike to the best viewpoints (we found it challenging to try to get to all 3 major viewpoints in time to catch our 16:00, pre-arranged taxi (also setup by Sandy).

We were blown away by the rice terraces - what gorgeous scenery. Wisdom Inn is the perfect place to stay. It is a flat 5-10 minute walk from where the bus from Yangshuo drops you off, at the entrance of the village. Sandy is a star - she arranged the bus to and from Dazhai for us, and prepared lovely food. We were lucky enough to stay in Dazhai during Moon Festival, so Sandy fed us wine and moon cake while we sat outside the Inn to enjoy the festivities. Our room overlooked the village so you could watch all the activity and enjoy the view.

Stayed at Wisdom Inn in April 2014 for 2 nights. It was long enough. I must say that we were all disappointed after reading the rave reviews from other visitors. First of all i must point out that if you get Sandy to arrange a taxi transfer for you, do not pay the taxi driver. We were not told this and paid the driver who later tried to say we hadn't paid him and then said we had paid him 200 less than we had. Sandy puts this service on your bill at the end of the stay. Fortunately it was sorted eventually after much upset.
The room my husband and i stayed in was at the rear of the property with no view at all. The room was damp and also the bedding. For the whole of our visit the bathroom floor never dried out. There was a power outage during most of our visit which meant there was no heating to dry out the room and no hot water for a shower. We did get some power around 8pm each evening.
This also seemed to cause a problem regarding eating, as Sandy then did not want to serve any meals and told us to try somewhere else. Fortunately the few places available to eat did manage to cook for us without a problem.
Sandy seemed obsessed with cleaning the floor of the entrance way but never touched our rooms at all. The bathroom bin wasn't even emptied.
We did complain about all these things but Sandy said she could not give us a reduction in price even though we had paid for services not supplied. I know the power outage was not Sandys fault as she stated but we were paying for these services.
All in all we found it very expensive for what we got. It cost us more to stay here than it did to stay in a beautiful penthouse suite in Yangshou.
We would like to point out that the village, surrounding rice fields and walks are amazing. Lovely to see but would have been better to just stay one night.
Please note that we do understand that this is in a remote area and did not expect too much of the accomodation, but saying that the pricing should reflect the quality and services.

We booked Wisdom Inn basing on the exceptional comments from other travellers but were a bit disheartened upon arrival.

Location: The hotel was ideally located right at the entrance of the Dazhai village so we didn't have to walk up the hill with our 2 big suitcases. This is one of the reason we picked this hotel. It was also close to the starting point of the cable car to go up to No. 3 scenic point. We could have nice view of the whole valley from room windows already. For info, we stayed on the 2nd floor.

Room: We had a triple room for 2 adults 2 kids which was good sized. There was a double bed and a single bed which could fit 2 anyway. Separate shower, western toilet seat, hair driver, mosquito lantern, standing fan (which we didn't use). Amenities are basic and sufficient. We also didn't expect much anyway in the rural country side.

Facilities: There was power check up in the whole village and hence power outage the whole day. We arrived at around noon and was told that it should be back by the evening. We went for hiking for about 3~4 hours and was all sweaty. So we had cold showers anyway. As it got later and darker, we need torches to find our ways inside the room. Power returned at around 8pm and we cheered only to find out still no hot water and no wifi.

The wifi indeed didn't work at all whether there was power or not. We were successfully connected only once at lobby but just once.

Food: Unfortunately we cannot comment as the owner said she was very busy with 7 other guests rooms and asked us to try other restaurants at the village. We thought probably she couldn't arrange for lunch as we arrived at noon but dinner was okay since there should be sufficient advance notice, she declined us politely saying if we didn't like the food of other restaurants we could return and she could cook for us. So we learnt that we shouldn't ask further. But next morning we saw other guests having breakfast right at the lobby, while the lady showed us the way out to have breakfast next door.

Ironically, there was a billboard just outside the hotel advertising it offers lodging, coffee, food and wifi.

Service: Except for the encounter for food, lady owner showed us the way to go up the mountain, how to plan our time, and arranged transports for us. She sent us an email the day before our arrival to confirm pick up but we were on the road already and couldn't see that till we finished the trip.

Just saw that others had complimentary tea upon checking in. We had nothing.

Value for money: This is by far the most expensive hotel we have stayed in comparing to Yangshuo (Moondance) and Guilin (Sheraton). We got corporate rate at Sheraton so it wouldn't be fair. But comparing to Moondance which is also catered for foreigners, the interior, exterior, food, service of Wisdom Inn is steep. The next door restaurant that we frequented kept on asking about prices we paid for different things. So we asked him how much would a normal lodging (i.e. locally run) would cost. It turned out that he actually also offered lodging, food, everything, and he would charge just RMB100. We haven't seen the interior of the local lodging and can't give a fair comparison. Probably the locally run lodging would have local types of squatting toilets, smelly or even no towels, no amenities.... we just don't know.

We probably will not return to Longji Dazhai in the near future. This is the kind of place that you would go once. But if we do return, we might probably try our luck somewhere. From what we saw, it is actually not necessary to book lodging because everywhere we went the locals always waved at us offering lodging.

We recently spent one night here. Sandy is a lovely host. She's very environmentally conscious. Room was clean with great views of the village and terraces. A very generous breakfast was included in the rate.
Make sure when you book that you choose the right Wisdom Inn! Sandy has been operating her business since 2009 and has built up a good reputation. Another inn across the way wasn't doing so well, so they recently changed their name to Wisdom Inn to try and profit from the reputation Sandy has built. The Chinese government permits businesses to copy other business names as long as they're in foreign language, however, Chinese business names can't be copied.
Sandy's Wisdom Inn is near the entrance of the village - second building on the left.

Sandy, this hotel's manager, helped us in all phases of our journey, including transportation from Guilin airport, advice for our hiking, and even setting up hotel and transportation for us for the next few days as we travelled around the Li river valley. Our room was on the 3rd floor with a small balcony, and had a beautiful sunrise view of the rice terraces. The facilities were good, including a hot shower and modern fixtures. Perfect place to stay while exploring the rice terraces!

Hiking and relaxation are the main attractions in this very small village, and Sandy told us that she prefers her guests to feel like they are at home with family. We did!

We chose the Wisdom Inn as we were really have trouble understanding the where/how etc of coming to see the Rice Terraces and Sandy was able to help us book bus tickets directly from Yangshuo. She also met us as we got off the bus to escort us to her hotel.

The hotel is located at the entrance Dazhai village so the walk from the bus stop is not arduous, although there are ladies waiting to carry your bag if you need it. Sandy is very active in making sure that you don't get over charged by these enthusiastic ladies.

Our room had the most fantastic view and was very comfortable - probably the best shower I've had in China! Breakfast is included in the price and was good.

We did not eat our evening meals at the Wisdom Inn as there are plenty of other inns and restuarants in the village and Sandy suggested that we could share our 'money' with the other places. We found the people in Dazhai to be warm and friendly and welcoming.

Wisdom Inn is probably the most expensive place in Dazhai (more expensive than we usually pay), what you are paying for is having a helpful, English speaking host. Without her help our stay would definitely have been more difficult and we may not even have come to Dazhai which would have been a great pity.

Dazhai Village and it's surrounding rice terraces are definitely the best of Longsheng County, and the Wisdom Inn is the best in the area! Dazhai was my last stop after a month long trip through China and I couldn't have thought of a better way to end to it. My stay at the Wisdom Inn was superb. The owner, Sandy, is so helpful and pays great attention to detail. She truly cares about her guests and does everything possible to ensure that you have a great stay. She speaks English and has traveled extensively within China. I felt right at home - the rooms are a good size and have their own private bathrooms. The guesthouse is very clean and the food is excellent. Many of the other guesthouses have small rooms and shared bathrooms. The villages do not have proper restaurants so the guesthouses also serve meals. I had all of my breakfasts and dinners at the Wisdom Inn, and truly loved the food.

The Wisdom Inn is located at the foothill of the rice terraces and has direct views of Platform No. 3. (I stayed in the Tian Tou Zhai room on the second floor) I enjoyed the location a great deal - in the mornings while eating breakfast and listening to the stream that flows past in front of the guesthouse, I could watch all of the local people on their way to work and all of the children on their way to school.

Dazhai Village is a serene, quiet place and a great spot to sit back and enjoy nature and hiking. I did the 4 hour hike from Dazhai to Ping An, and thought the best part/views were between Dazhai and Zhongliu Village, so if you have limited time I wouldn't worry about hiking all the way to Ping An. Like many other reviews have noted I would agree that my experience in Ping An was less authentic. And if you have very limited time I would focus on Platforms 1, 2, and 3 in Dazhai, where the rice terraces are much more impressive.

Enjoy!

Stayed two nights. Simple hotel at foot of Dazhai with comfortable bed and great shower . Lovely view from our room. Could benefit from a little refurbishment ( cracked window pane and update shower cubicle) but overall we had a lovely peaceful stay here . Great breakfast with omelette, pork , homemade bread and fruit ( watermelon and passion fruit which were in season when we were there). The owner Sandy was delightful.
