There are so many extraordinary things I can say about our stay at Balenbouche, and of course, St Lucia, itself. My husband and I were looking for a more authentic island experience outside of the "resort" style vacation. Driving down the driveway into Balenbouche, we knew we had picked a place that was just what we were looking for. The...

This was our first trip to St Lucia. Would I stay at Balenbouche again? Absolutely! If you want a resort holiday, experience and facilities then Balenbouche is not for you - but this is the point. It offers something very different. This is a little bit of St Lucia being protected from the sanitized resort by the energy and vision...

We love this place, an old plantation away from the modern resorts It's simple--fans and cross-breezes instead of air conditioning, no wifi in the rooms, for example, but very beautiful in all the small details inside and out. We had a full kitchen so could have stayed for days. The family that owns it are welcoming and charming.

The owners could not be more welcoming. They provide evening meals on request (minimum 4 people required) which were delicious buffet style, taking people's dietary needs into account. The chalets vary in design, age and facilities, but all are comfortable. Balenbouche has beautiful grounds with access to the sea, although on some days, swimming was not possible due to rough...

Our plan for our first visit to St. Lucia, was to spend time at two different parts of the island, so we stayed 3 nights here and 6 nights on the west side. Accommodations at Balenbouche leave much to be desired. Very dimly lit rooms. No lighting near any of the mirrors. Some rooms did not have working lights. Advertised...

Most of the things mentioned below could have been resolved if the guests had read the website more thoroughly and asked for help: Both showers (indoor and outdoor) work and are heated by solar, but sometimes you have to let the water run for a while, and on overcast days it doesn't get very hot. The outdoor shower has two...

The Water Lily cottage at Balenbouche is a truly extraordinary home away from home. Every aspect of the design at Balenbouche Estate exceeded our expectations. The attention to detail and the sheer beauty of the estate makes your stay unforgettable. The timeless setting and the generous offerings are the result of many years of a family's love and care for...

These beautiful cottages are in the middle of an historical plantation. The owners will take you back in the past and 'll tell you the special historie about Balanbouche. Above all they help you with all your questions to make it easy for you to explore the south of St. Lucia. After a few days it feels very familiar and...

We recently visited the estate and were impressed by the grounds. We chose a self-guided tour and took a walk around the old sugar mill and walked to the beach area. After, we saw the house that was built on the plantation. The owner's daughter was very friendly and we got a kick out of the dog who acted in...

We were in St Lucia (Laborie area) for our 25th wedding anniversary. Our Airbnb hosts recommended we see the Balenbouche Estate and it was everything that we imagined. We had a spectacular meal on the veranda to the moon and stars and frogs singing in the background. Our hostesses were incredible and everything from the falafel and Lemongrass Basil mojitos...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Balenbouche Estate is a Historic Plantation Guesthouse offering several tropical vacation cottages. The 80 acre property includes an expansive park with colonial plantation house, 18th century sugar mill, yoga barn, fruit orchards, lily ponds, nature trails and two secluded beaches just a 5 minute walk away. Balenbouche is not a resort and remains a working organic farm, heritage site, and family residence with a focus on wellness, sustainability and conservation. Our eco-chic accommodations are created from historic structures and sleep between 2 and 6 people, some include kitchens. We prepare breakfast daily, and dinner 2 - 3 times a week by reservation. There is a restaurant within walking distance. Several other St Lucia restaurants as well as a supermarket are a short drive away. We are located 20 minutes from the International airport and 30 minutes from the town of Soufriere, near many of the islands best attractions. Balenbouche is a magical place, a world in itself, popular with artists, photographers, green travelers, wedding couples, honeymooners and families. Our family has owned and managed the estate for three generations. Gradually, the property was transformed into a well known St Lucia attraction, guesthouse and retreat venue. Many of our guests feel very much at home at Balenbouche Estate, and keep returning! ... more   less

“Frangipani is really the win. However, if you're traveling as a group or with kids either Almond or Banyan is a good bet. There's more privacy in Almond. However, Banyan was sort of my favorite! It felt a bit Southeast Asian in flavor.”

“Note that rooms (cottages) are charming, unique, and have all the basics including kitchenware, fridge, stove. That said, the basics are basic--no A/C and nothing is particularly new. Everything is open to the outdoors.”
