Interesting tour, especially since the house is 180 years old. We saw the ruins of the sugar mill. The owner gave us a quick tour and related the history of the plantation and her late husband's family. The vegetation is lush and gorgeous.

We were staying in Bay Treehouse in Laborie and the owners recommended Balenbouche Estate for dinner. So glad they did. We had a lovely dinner at this old plantation house! The service, atmosphere and food wasamazing! Everything from start to finish was delicious and reasonably priced. The owners are warm and hospitable. We loved it! We will be back next...

A disappointing stay - dark, sweltering rooms with limited privacy/security and overpriced food. We were greeted by a large number of barking dogs running at us, which would be alarming to most people - even dog lovers. The place has a lot of character, and the owners are nice people. However, the lack of amenities and discomfort coupled with high...

We're sorry this couple felt disappointed. They arrived from London and planned to stay with us for one night. This time of year, it is indeed quit hot and humid, especially if you're not yet acclimatized to the tropics. However, the bedrooms all have fans and lots of windows and doors (with security bars). The Banyan cottage, our largest and...

We stayed in one of the cottages at Balenbouche Estate for one night before staying elsewhere on the island. The cottages are quaint and lovely, and the estate is full of beautiful surprises. There is an old sugar mill slowly being overtaken by an enormous Banyan tree which is simply breathtaking, and a short walk through the estate takes you...

We rented the Almond cottage for our family (two adults with a child and a baby) and were very sattisfied. The estate is wonderful with old trees, lots of plants and flowers and an impressive ruin! The cottage is very big with good beds (with mosquito nets), lovely decoration and enough storage space. The highlight is the outside shower! The...

A stopping point on a cruise ship tour. A quick walk round the house - not impressive - then into the grounds. Here is a lovely spot with remnants of the old mill. Would not make a special visit but it looked like a good place to stay.

We stayed at the Calabash Cottage at the Balenbouche Estate for 4 nights and it was such a fun experience! The Estate is managed by a lovely Austrian woman named Uta and her two daughters. We loved being greeted by all the friendly dogs that live on the estate, and our breakfast provided by Uta each morning was delicious. There...

WE CAME TO DO PHOTOGRAPHY: After a warm greeting we ventured out armed with cameras to explore this wonderful location in hopes of capturing its charm and splendor. I found myself enjoying the peace and tranquility; so much natural beauty along with the artifacts from a bye gone era, truly an enchanting sensation. The remnants of the sugar mill nestled...

We got married at a nearby resort and the day after, got dressed up again and went to take photos at different locations. We stopped at Balenbouche and were not disappointed. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Balenbouche Estate is a Historic Plantation Guesthouse offering several tropical vacation cottages. The 80 acre property includes an expansive park with colonial plantation house, 18th century sugar mill, yoga barn, fruit orchards, lily ponds, nature trails and two secluded beaches just a 5 minute walk away. Balenbouche is not a resort and remains a working organic farm, heritage site, and family residence with a focus on wellness, sustainability and conservation. Our eco-chic accommodations are created from historic structures and sleep between 2 and 6 people, some include kitchens. We prepare breakfast daily, and dinner 2 - 3 times a week by reservation. There is a restaurant within walking distance. Several other St Lucia restaurants as well as a supermarket are a short drive away. We are located 20 minutes from the International airport and 30 minutes from the town of Soufriere, near many of the islands best attractions. Balenbouche is a magical place, a world in itself, popular with artists, photographers, green travelers, wedding couples, honeymooners and families. Our family has owned and managed the estate for three generations. Gradually, the property was transformed into a well known St Lucia attraction, guesthouse and retreat venue. Many of our guests feel very much at home at Balenbouche Estate, and keep returning! ... more   less

“Frangipani is really the win. However, if you're traveling as a group or with kids either Almond or Banyan is a good bet. There's more privacy in Almond. However, Banyan was sort of my favorite! It felt a bit Southeast Asian in flavor.”

“Note that rooms (cottages) are charming, unique, and have all the basics including kitchenware, fridge, stove. That said, the basics are basic--no A/C and nothing is particularly new. Everything is open to the outdoors.”
