This lodging is located at the foot of Mt. Fuji on the shore of Lake Kawaguchi. This quiet location away from the tumult of the ryokan district makes it seem like a secluded retreat, and is quite favored among guests. This lodging boasts of a variety of baths - including the ‘Fuji no Yu’ and ‘Umi no Yu’ scenic view open-air baths on the top floor - and an abundance of seasonal cuisine. From the ‘Fuji no Yu’ scenic view open-air bath, guests can gaze out on the gallant figure of Mt. Fuji right before their eyes as its appearance changes hour by hour.

Nestled in a scenic spot, Wakakusa no Yado Maruei captivates guests with its traditional Japanese ambiance and breathtaking views of Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko. The rooms elicit compliments for their authentic style, though attention to appliance updates and cleanliness has been suggested. The exceptional service and amenities, such as the hot springs and Kaiseki meals, consistently impress visitors. While the hotel's value is acknowledged, especially with the inclusive offerings, the costs are noted. Despite some calls for improved bedding cleanliness, the overall experience is cherished for its cultural richness and tranquil atmosphere.

This ryokan is incredible. From the moment you walk in, you feel like a guest in someone’s home. Everything is taken care of, from your yukata/slippers waiting in your room, to the making of the futon at night. The onsen (the private one, the public indoor, and the public open-air) are all phenomenal, I have never been so relaxed before. The dinner served in our room was a banquet full of a rich assortment of Japanese food. Maybe the best food we’ve had on our trip to Japan. Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough. The staff were amazing and very helpful even though we only speak limited Japanese.

I arrived in the pouring rain at this excellently-staffed ryokan on one of the 5 lakes near Mount Fuji. My traditional room was immaculate and lovely and my 12 course dinner in a private dining room was sublime. A few hours of saki (I had bought at local saki brewer) in my room where I could see the shadows of the lake and hear the rain and then off to a traditional bed. Woke up to sunlight and ducks on the lake and gorgeous mountains. A delicious breakfast and then — top experience of life — a private hot bath with amazing view of Mount Fuji. A total refreshment of life.

Awestruck by the natural beauty surrounding this awesome ryokan, we couldn’t ask for more.

Starting with the free shuttle service provided from Kawaguchiko Station, we were greeted by multiple staff members making us feel special and welcome.

Our lake view room was clean and offered priceless floor to ceiling views for us to enjoy day and night. In room dining and staff changing bedding each night is always an enjoyable experience when staying at ryokan.

Food was delicious and intricately prepared filling our bellies with love and joy. Chefs well done!!!

Onsen was always clean and well stocked with everything needed while visiting. Onsen was magical and invigorating. Enjoyed multiple times a day.

The hotels rustic charm and hospitality was bar none and takes us back to a different era. Love, love, love the service and staff.

Would return and highly recommend.

Aloha and mahalo.

The overall experience is excellent. We really enjoyed the included meals, Japanese-style rooms, the private Mt.Fuji-viewing bath, and the free shuttle bus to and from Kawaguchiko station. The hotel reception is very friendly and professional, they gave us a lot of guidance and even let us borrow an umbrella. The only one thing they could improve on is the cleanliness of the futons and sheets, we saw some hair that belonged to other guests.

Absolutely lovely stay. Whilst other onsen ryokans do not cater for solo travellers, I felt welcome here. Stunning views of mt Fuji from onsen. Would recommend watching sunrise and sunset over my Fuji.

Amazing staff with great attention to detail. Highly recommend to get the breakfast and dinner option if you can as they are definately worth it. The stay also comes with access to four different baths (two outdoor and two indoors) and one additional private one that you can book. Even when staying for two nights, the food was different at each meal. The only downside is that you will feel too full to eat elsewhere around the area for lunch, but it is definately worth it for the experience.

We came on an off-peak period where we managed to successfully have access to the baths for ourselves (gender-seperated of course).

We were welcomed with a light soup and little biscuit before we were brought to our rooms. The rooms are spotless and we had our own bath on the balcony with a view over Lake Kawaguchi. The staff kindly provides you with instructions, also on how to wear a Yukata. We had a phenomenal dinner at our room with a very attentive and professional room clerk, who cleaned up the room and made our beds to we could stretch out for the night after visiting the beautiful and quiet onsen. Next morning’s breakfast was again a feast for the eyes and mouth, and very filling. This was a wonderful experience during our honeymoon! The views from the rooftop are amazing and the area is peaceful and calm. Would wholeheartedly recommend!

While in Japan for the F1 race, we took an extra week to experience Japan. We were looking for a place offering traditional Japanese amenities, and we hit paydort with this place. From the moment we arrived and greeted by the attentive staff to our departure, it was a submersion in Japanese traditions and culture. The meals were fabulous as I love Sushi and meat while my wife didn't have a lot to choose from as she is a vegetarian but always managed to have something to eat. We chose a washitsu as our room, although I heard they have western style rooms as well, but like I said, we wanted the experience. It was very warm and inviting. Robes and slippers were provided and were expected to be worn at dinner and to the onsen, which by the way was one of the many features of this hotel, a hot mineral bath with a spectacular
view of Mt. Fuji. I can't speak highly enough about the Wakakusa no Yado Maruei.

I really enjoyed the hospitality, lots of good little things and great finesse in their service. The baths are fun to try. The meals were the real deal Japanese food. Very professional and courteous.

My gentle feedback is that my room was likely located directly below the baths, as such I could hear the water running all the time. Wasn't an issue for me nevertheless.

This was a highlight of our trip to Japan. We were lucky to stay at this beautiful authentic ryokan and lucky to see Mt Fuji. The ryokan has a rooftop viewing area and you can see a majestic full view of Mt Fuji on one side, and beautiful Lake Kawaguchiko on the other. Our room had its own outdoor bath but there were also outdoor and private onsens available at this ryokan ( onsens have view of local mountains and the lake). The meals were generous and of highest quality including abalone and lobster. The staff were all very helpful. Although most could not speak English well, they used Google translate and the front desk were able to help in English. They also had a great shuttle van to take guests to train stations or tourist bus lines. We highly recommend this place!

I got a non smoking room, very sensitive to cigarette smoke. I think we were on room 203, If anything they had two fans for ventilation. I msged them on agoda- thats the website I had booked them, to ask for a mt fuji view and nonsmoking room. They confirmed nonsmoking but we didnt get a view on mt fuji, but its okay! (They also took a week to reply, compared to the other places we had rserved in japan) the rooftop is very nice, loved my experience there which is why I posted on tripadvisor. I’m trying to remember the list of rules when you check in with green tea if it said it was non smoking. I would highly recommend this place! It was one of the highlights of our japan trip. Please msg them to verify. Sorry for the long reply, I just checked my email- I did msg them on agoda asking to confirm it its a non smoking/ they replied the following: There is no smoking room. We will do careful ventilation and deodorization. Have fun!!!

Hi. Could someone please inform me which rooms to book for a Mt Fuji view. Thanks
Answer from New P

From what I believe, there are no rooms with a Mount Fuji view. There is only the top floor scenic lookout point for Mount Fuji, and there is also an onsen room with Mount Fuji views, so if you stay for 2 nights, you will get the onsen with the Mount Fuji view for one of the days of your stay.

Yes, I think so. We were in a non smoking room. There were no smoke smells. You can make a request when you book which is what I did.
