The hotel is undoubtedly in a very beautiful location and we awed at the lush mountains and views and this is what the 4* are for only, we were pleased with the garden suite. Breakfast was good, however the evening meals were hit and miss. The half board dinner was sometimes cold, for example crispy squid had clearly been cooked...

We were very disappointed by Lakaz Chamarel especially after the excellent 20o Sud. The room was poor, shabby and dark, the mattress had to changed too,a hut with a thatched roof so you could hear every raindrop. This was supposed to have been a superior room. There was only an outside shower not good in the dark and especially as...

Lovely staff, great food and peace and quiet. My wife and I stayed for 4 nights at the beginning of May and enjoyed it enormously. Surrounded by the jungle it is worth remembering to pack every kind of insect repellant going. Any discomfort from the many bites is more than made up for by the beauty of the setting though....

We had a wonderful stay at Lakaz Chamerel. We were lucky to be greeted on our first night by the frogs' chorus. The entire local frog population sang in full voice for several hours - a really evocative sound to welcome us to a forest retreat. In the morning we had coffee on the veranda watching the weaver birds preparing...

As ecologist my wife and I wanted tropical beauty, mixed with some luxury for our honeymoon, and we found it! Nestled in the hills of south western Mauritius, Lakaz Chamerel is a family run hotel with real charm, elegance and comfort. We can't normally afford such luxury and it can make you feel out of place but not here. They...

As two biologists on honeymoon, we wanted to start our honeymoon off with some great nature. This was just the spot. Fruit bats, bulbuls, geckos, fodys and countless other birds. We even were visited by a friendly tenrec at dinner one evening. Unfortunately heavy rain for five days meant that trips to the black river gorge were off the books...

We had the pleasure of kickstarting our honeymoon at Lakaz Chamarel, and it was the most perfect start. Firstly the surroundings are spectacular, flora and fauna is gorgeous. Lots of birds, rabbits, colourful plants and trees to look at, not to mention the frogs, giant snails and bats at night. Photographers dream. The view and sunset from the viewing point...

We stayed 3 nights in April at the beginning of our trip. We had a beautiful suite overlooking the mountains just a short walk from the restaurant/reception area, with a private pool. Totally loved the outside shower which is completely private and super fun to use when the stars are out or in the rain! The lodge was a great...

The Lodge is located on a beautiful hillside and you get some jungle feeling. The food is very good but sometimes too small portions for people like us who exercise a lot every day. Speaking of exercising, on the website they indicate what it takes in time to cycle or hike to different sights which is underestimated. Cycling back and...
