It was my husband’s Birthday so we decided to stay at the Fairways after an evening of fun with friends! From check in to check out everything was perfect, thank you Precious! Our room was spotless ( we had a pet friendly room) as we brought our little dog. The room was comfortable and oh so clean, the little touches with the lovely soap and body lotion made it feel special. We had a room with a very large patio on the ground level, felt more like a condo then a hotel room with a full sized kitchen, living area, 2 bathrooms and a separate bedroom that was very spacious. I highly recommend the Fairways Hotel , almost forgot to mention the views on Bear Mountain are stunning. Thank you again, we will be back.

It is close to downtown Victoria, 20 minutes and beautiful place. The staff was so welcoming and so kind. We decided to stay one more night than plan, and they switched things around for us. The place was very clean. Never seen that before! It was very quiet also. The products they have in the bathroom are great. You can even purchase them. That says it all. Very comfortable and cheaper than downtown Victoria. It was worth driving there ❤️

I was a little concerned how far out of town we were, as we didn't stay for the golf, or the wood. It was a beautiful drive up, two different routes, and wasn't long at all. It is too far from thw downtown core, but worked well for our visit. The room was huge, clean, well decorated, and staff was friendly. I'm not sure of the amenities but there was a liquor store and restaurant next door. No complaints.

As usual, our stay at the Fairways was very pleasant with spacious rooms with balconies, doors and windows that allow you to enjoy the surrounding fresh air. Importantly, the rooms are clean and include all the necessities. Staff are always friendly and efficient. Our only disappointment during our last visit was the discovery that surrounding trails and walking paths are now restricted. A very unfriendly and money grubbing move on the part of Bear Mountain business managers & owners! I understand the need to ban casual walkers from the golf courses, all golf courses do this. But, the surrounding mountain trails and walking paths??!! Come on people, be nice to visitors!

Dear arlingtonwoods, Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. I'm happy to see you once again enjoyed your time at the Fairways. Yes there have been some changes made at the resort that has caused some frustration to hotel guests. These decisions were made by the resort management, the hotel had nothing to do with these new restrictions. Hopefully as time goes on a better alternative can be found. Looking forward to seeing you on your next visit. Best, Darren Anderson General Manager

We had a group of eight ladies who came down island for a golf getaway. This is our second annual trip and as was the case last year, the staff were all super friendly! The amenities are fantastic, and the location is perfect! Many thanks to Peter for all his hard work in accommodating our motley crew. We are already talking about our trip next year and will definitely be staying at Fairways again, if they’ll have us……

Recently spent a 4-night stay in a one-bedroom king at Fairways Hotel on Bear Mountain, just outside Victoria, BC. Beautiful hotel and suite. Very clean with a balcony and lots of in-suite amenities. We enjoyed the suite very much but had not planned to spend all of our time indoors. Thank goodness we were not traveling with children or pets. So, know before you go... The website shows panoramic views of the golf course, woods and both paved and dirt trails. While we were not expecting to play golf or tennis, or go mountain biking, we did plan to go for some walks and explore the beautiful vistas all around. But that's a no-go unless you're up for paying $45 per day, per person, and signing a waiver. Sadly, had we known this, we would have stayed elsewhere. Resort fees are understandable, but the way our experience unfolded with a glaring lack of communication, is just not acceptable. On Day One, we went for a long walk down a paved road directly behind our suite - along with other walkers, pet owners, cars and golf carts. We enjoyed the view from the tennis center and meandered back on a different trail. When we went out for a similar walk on Day Two, we had not even left the hotel sidewalk when we were accosted by a man asking if we had signed a waiver. Yes, we signed several waivers when checking in, we told him. But he insisted we needed to sign his company's waiver and pay $90 to go for a walk that was free yesterday. "It's a liability!" he informed us. We went back inside our hotel and spoke with the front desk agent, who was polite and listened carefully. We determined there was a different waiver for the different business next door (Who knew? We had already signed 5 waivers.), and she would communicate our unpleasant experience to management. But yes, any area beyond the green hedge was private property of another group. There was no explanation why we were allowed to walk down the path on Day One, but not on Day Two, and there was no follow-up from management. It IS a very nice hotel that allowed a disturbing situation to happen. Both the website (in writing) and the check-in process (in person) need to fully and clearly communicate about these strange and unusual rules. And if Bear Mountain Activity Center is that serious about restricting walkers, they should install a gate. We also learned (too late) that other nearby walking options really don't exist due to crowded buildings, parking, and major construction. Just know before you go.

Thank you for submitting a review. As I mentioned in another post to your partner thank you for your comments regarding the hotel room. Not sure why you felt you had to spend all of your time inside. When you reference our website the home page does show an aerial view of the hotel with the golf course in the back ground. I'm not sure where it shows trails. The path in the video is a cart path on the golf course. When you went for your walk the first day you would have walked right past a sign that noted it was private property as it's a golf course. The golf course and some other areas of the resort are run and managed by the resort owners. This is a completely separate entity from us. I can't accurately tell you why you were able to walk that way the first night and not the 2nd day that would be a question for the resort owners. There is one waiver when you check in hi lighting that it is a non smoking building, verifying if you have pets, and getting a license plate number, not 5. There is no waiver at the hotel regarding trails as it doesn't pertain to us. There are walking options all over the resort in either direction the construction is a mile and a half up the road where there are no sidewalks to begin with. It's unfortunate that your expectations were not met on this stay. I hope you find somewhere better suited on your next visit to Victoria. Best, Darren Anderson General Manager

GOOD: The suite was excellent; CLEAN, comfortable, spacious and beautiful. All as advertised and we have no complaints. The suite descriptions and pictures are accurate. We stayed 4 nights and wish we could have enjoyed it longer. It was grand! BAD: We came to enjoy the outdoors as well. The hotel is right next to trees, hills, and walking and hiking trails which were a big part of our decision to visit here, instead of other choices. Surprise! You can only use those trails if you pay $45 PER PERSON, EACH DAY! We couldn’t even walk around the building, before a guard stopped us and told us we needed to pay and sign a waiver. It sounds like there is a disagreement between Fairways and the recreation center next door. Trouble is, it was never communicated on the website, at check in, nothing. Also, elsewhere, there are few sidewalks, traffic congestion and lots of construction. FINALLY: This battle is between the hotel and the rec center, but we won’t be back. The room is nice for 4 days, but not for staying inside all that time.

Dear Newsdigger, Thank you for submitting review. Thank you for the positive note regarding the hotel and rooms. Based on your comments it looks as if your issue is with the owners of the resort not the hotel, unfortunately the fees that are charged apply to everyone who is a non resident, not just Fairways hotel guests. We do not specifically advertise we have access to the golf course for the purpose of walking/hiking. We do have imagery on our website of nearby areas of Langford where you can hike, mountain bike, kayak etc. and it is noted as such. There are plenty of sidewalks that go in all directions. The traffic congestion due to the construction at times can cause a wait for a few minutes however, it is a mile and a half away from the hotel and is during the week, it has no impact on the area around the hotel. Clearly your expectations were not met on this stay. I hope the next time you visit the area it is more enjoyable. Best, Darren Anderson General Manager
