I can only endorse the eloquent praise of previous reviewers. A beautiful area and wonderful people who will make your stay memorable.
Our room was on the first floor and we looked out across the beautiful backyard gardens and pool area. The room was very big, the bed so wonderfully comfortable and the bathroom easily big enough with also a lovely window view across a private garden. Murray and Jan also provided access to their amazingly large sitting room which was a great location when not sitting outside in either the beautiful manicured back garden or pool side area. The property was just way beyond any expectations we had and was clearly not only the highlight of this 7 week European trip but also previous visits to France.
Our continental breakfast each morning was again just a real treat of fresh food including home made muesli, home stewed fresh fruits, fresh baguettes and croissants, freshly squeezed orange juice and tea/coffee-a great way to start the day's adventures.
We visited the nearby lovely town of Albi on a few occasions which has the famous Toulouse Lautrec art gallery amongst other lovely tourist attractions, a very good shopping precinct and some excellent restaurants and cafes all in the Old Town. We also visited Gaillac a nearby small town and easy short drive which has excellent Friday morning street markets.
A highlight of the area are the hilltop villages including Cordes-sur-Ciel which is amongst France's highest rating hilltop villages. We also loved Penne which is a lesser known hilltop village but full of character and beauty and a lot less tourists. There are also a great choice of local wineries who produce some very good low cost quality wines. Next door to the B&B is a great restaurant where we had a very classic French long lunch on a warm, blue skies afternoon surrounded by the locals enjoying their excellent local produce and wines. It doesn't get any better.
Finally our consummate hosts Murray and Jan whom we cannot thank enough for allowing us to enjoy their beautifully renovated property. They welcomed us not as visitors to their B&B but made us feel as if we were at home amongst our family and friends. They have lived at this property/region for 8 years and are just a wealth of knowledge whatever your query maybe. More importantly to us, they are a truly wonderful and caring couple who always strived to ensure our time at this hidden gem was a great experience full of many happy memories-that they exceeded this goal many times over for us is testament to them as hosts and genuinely good folk. Thankyou once again from afar.
Jan and Murray made us so very welcome, like a meeting of long lost friends. Our room was cool, spotlessly clean with a big squishy bed and lovely high quality bed linen. After a good night's sleep, we awoke to a delicious continental breakfast of local produce. Home made muesli, fresh berries and melon, flaky croissant fresh from the oven and a huge pot of expertly made English tea. (Murray has been a good student from our first visit and now has the art of tea making well and truly under his belt!).
This area has so much to offer, wonderful countryside dotted with ancient towns and quaint villages, packed with history and charm. It is so unspoiled, but hidden away are some fabulous restaurants, bars and cafes that well and truly come up to and meet today's demands for excellent food and wine.
This place is a must, a must not be missed.
The cool interior of the house does not disappoint, high ceilings, grand staircase and lovely exposed stone walls, Jan and Murray have spent years lovingly decorating and furnishing their home, with the perfect mixture of old and new, acheiving a stunning result. The rooms are calm and peaceful in neutral shades and white, with the odd splash of vibrant colour. The bedlinen and big soft snuggly towels are of superb quality, the bathrooms have been fitted out with all modern fittings and the whole place is scrupulously clean.
Within half an hour of our arrival we had settled in and were enjoying a welcome drink and yummy nibbles by the pool. We had not only a huge bedroom plus our own bathroom, but lounge and dining room too, with use of tea and coffee making facilites and a fridge which had been stocked for us with milk, water, beer, wine and even a plate of homemade chocolate brownies.
Breakfast was delicious, taken either in the dining room or by the pool as we wished. Wonderful fresh fruits, cereals, freshly squeezed orange juice, yogurts, breads jams and pastries to die for.
Jan and Murray have not been doing B&B for very long, but you would never guess it, they were charming, and experts at knowing when to fuss us and when to withdraw, and absolutely nothing was too much trouble. They have an excellent wi-fi system and lots of information and maps that we were allowed to use during our stay.
Two doors away is a fab restaurant Lou Cantoun, great food excellent wines and only 2 minutes to roll home! Cestayrols whilst being a tiny village is actually well placed for all the towns in the area and there are some wonderful places to visit and explore, our only regret is that we could not stay at Chateau Cestayrols long enough, a mistake we will not make again.
We were so sad to leave, will we return, too right we will, well done Murray and Jan 10 out of 10! Nancy and David Greenway
We stayed at this wonderful chateau in the pretty village of Cestayrols, about a one hour drive from Toulouse International Airport. Cestayrols is surrounded by wonderful family run vineyards and sunflower fields (and is great for walking) and is only 20-30 minutes drive from the historic towns of Cordes-sur-Ciel and Albi.
This 15th century Chateau is owned and run by a wonderful Aussie couple Jan and Murray, who use two of the Chateau's lovely bedrooms for B&B guests. It is such a peaceful location and we
had the best night sleep in years there! This is a really lovely property (with a wonderful pool area) and is excellent value for money. Highly recommended.
The location makes it easy to get to Albi, Cordes-sur-Ciel and other hill towns, yet you do not have to put up with chaos that these popular places can have.
