Centrally located to be near the airport and many of Costa Rica's best attractions, yet a world away from the tourist bustle, Eden Atenas is the perfect headquarters for your Costa Rican visit. Here you will be tempted to just relax by the pool, enjoy spectacular tropical gardens (the work of tropical horticulturist Jan and design enthusiast Avtar), watch Toucans or Mot Mots, and be wowed by the best breakfast in the country. Whether you are helping yourself to a mango off the tree, lounging amongst the hibiscus, bougainvillea, gardenia, and jasmine, or watching sunrise over the volcano, you will have no trouble understanding why we call this place Eden. The only complaint we ever hear, is "If I'd only known, I would have stayed longer"

We were very happy to stay at Jan and Avtar’s place for 3 nights. Nice rural location and they have created a very colourful and attractive garden. The pool is nice, the dogs are friendly and Jan’s breakfasts were truly delightful. It’s nice that those staying in the rooms, as opposed to the suites, get to use a communal kitchen. More down-home than 5 star, this b&b will appeal to those looking for something unique.

We loved our most recent stay at Eden Atenas! This privately owned property was welcoming, private, quiet, friendly, helpful, and the list goes on.

Upon arrival, the landscape of the property that greets you is what tropical dreams are made of (lush jungle vegetation, a pool, a separate outdoor gathering space to join others who are staying at the property, and several opportunities to see and hear birds (especially Hummingbirds). Janet and Avtar said that toucans will regularly be seen near the property. However, I sadly never had the privilege of seeing one (but we were only there 2 days). In addition, we loved that their 2 dogs (Max and Lily) greeted us each time we'd pull back on to the property.

Finally, our room was comfortable and the sounds of rain ended up being our gentle alarm clock both of the days we stayed at Eden Atenas. We suggest getting up slowly and then going out to take advantage of the property's hammocks or rocking chairs. As mentioned in prior reviews, the breakfast is delightful too. We also appreciated the helpful tips and nice conversation we had with Janet and Avtar.

We LOVE to travel and are so thankful Costa Rica provided us a get-a-way during this unimaginable time. Eden Atenas and the other properties we stayed at throughout our time in CR followed all the necessary protocol related to COVID-19.

However, I must say, we were never worried about traveling during such an uncertain time anyway. Get out there! Turn the useless news off. Use your common sense and support the world of travel and general business again.

Thank you Eden Atenas and Costa Rica. You were such a wonderful bright spot in our traveling loving hearts.

Recently spent 4 days at Eden Atenas as our first stop in Costa Rica with our young daughter. Great little oasis, hosts Avtar and Jan were very accommodating and helpful with local transport etc... as well as being very kind and interesting people. Pool is great, grounds were immaculately kept. Their two dogs (Max and Lily) were ridiculously friendly and wonderful pool companions for our daughter. It’s a bit far out of the town center but an easy 2 dollar cab ride to anywhere in town. We had one of the larger suites with a large deck which was perfect. Kitchen is pretty well appointed for self catering. Would definitely recommend if you’re staying in Atenas.

Celebrating thirty years of marriage, Tina and I traveled from our home in Playa del Coco to see more of Costa Rica, We stayed three nights here in Eden and it was amazing. Ernesto went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and safe in this amazing tropical garden, surrounded by jungle. The breakfast that Enid made for us each morning, was the so authentic, fresh and delicious. After forty two years I am now retired from the hotel and restaurant industry and I do not hand out complements easily. Enid is truly a Chef of Central American Breakfast and a very good one. Stay here and wake up to birds singing and the best breakfast in Costa Rica.
Thank you Ernesto and "Chef" Enid for everything. Give some love to Max for us.

We had a wonderful 3 day stay at this very beautiful spot. Our hostess was wonderful, and was the cook, and receptionist. It was apparently a slow time of the season, and the only other person to help her called in sick. But she did it all. She made us an amply breakfast, each day consist of fresh fruits. The coffee was great. Due to a power failure she had to make it the Costa Rican style, which we happen to enjoy more than be the electric coffee pot.

The room was beautiful, very comfortable bed, clean linens, spacious and hot water for showers, etc. We had a "forest -like" view with an almost wrap around upper terrace. The pool was great to swim in, and the outdoor patio called the Ranch-actually had wood burning place. It seemed hot outside, even at night to warrant burning wood, no matter how romantic it might be. But that is just us.

It truely was a retreat-like experience. Another time, it might be different.

We had a fantastic time in Eden Atenas and we are actually already coming back there ;)

The breakfast is spectacular! The place is remote, silent with a beautiful garden, birds and nature. Hammocks and rocking chairs are everywhere.

Internet is strong enough for zoomcalls

There is an outside kitchen that can be used

The pool is big enough and the dogs are just some sweethearts! (and we are usually no dog people)

I can only recommend to go there

We only stayed for one night but as our first night ever in CR, it was the perfect choice. We got here relatively easily after picking up the SUV at SJO airport. Flowers everywhere, lots of birds (oropendola, hummingbirds, tanagra, yiguirro...) and an awesome breakfast! Janet and Avtar made us feel right at home. Secure property (large gate and big dogs). Confortable bed. No a/c. Only downside, the dogs bark often and the neighbor's rooster bellows all day from 4:30am. Still: highly recommended! You still want to get up early to see the birds and make it in time for breakfast (7:30 sharp!) Well located, easy to reach Jaco or la Fortuna (where we went after, takes about 3 hours). Believe all the 5 star reviews.

Truly a garden paradise, from the beautiful tropical gardens to the delicious breakfast prepared for us every morning. Ernesto is an amazing host. He helped us with transportation and anything else we needed. We stayed a week in “monkey room”. Will definitely return.

I want to thank the wonderful staff for taking care of me and for an adventurous first experience in Costa Rica. I laid back in the hammock on the El Rancho and felt at peace with the nature surrounding me. I will definitely be returning for another trip.

Time of year makes a difference to rain and temperatures. However, my experience has been a small umbrella and a light jacket will be of great benefit, even if you never uses it. Enjoy

It is about 1 1/2 hours and about 36 miles. Trust Avtar and Jan to help you make arrangements. They will be able to provide you with information about getting there and they had a driver when we were there. He spoke English very well and was a good guide.

Thanks for the question. We are 25-35 minutes from the main airport (SJO), depending on time of day and traffic. We do contract with a private car service for airport transfers. The charge for this is $35 US. If, however, you stay with us a week, we will pay for your pick-up.

do you have a room with twin beds?
Answer from EdenAtenas
Atenas, Costa Rica8 contributions2 helpful votes
Not at the moment. We will next season. We do have an apartment with two separate sleeping areas, both with double beds, as well as kitchen, sitting area, and large outdoor patio.
Answer from EdenAtenas

At present, we do not have twin beds. We are hoping to rectify that by next season. We do, however, have a large apartment which has two double beds in separate rooms. It also has a big kitchen, patio, and living area. Check our website to view.
