First the positive:
This hotel is well suited for a short stay. From our room we have a great view of the sea and the surrounding area. The room is also very spacious and has a balcony. The breakfast is simple but sufficient. The staff is friendly and helpful and the restaurant opposite has local, delicious and inexpensive food.

As far as the location is concerned, it should be taken into account that many starting points for hikes are difficult to reach on foot. A rental car is recommended as public transport is sparse.

Now the things that could be improved:

Even though the room is fully functional, a renovation would be a good idea. Small areas of damage can be seen in the bathroom and on the balcony door in particular. We find the musty smell in the bathroom particularly unpleasant.

Terrible service, always the same person at breakfast who was not friendly, it seemed like he was doing the customers a favor!
Super basic breakfast, in 5 days we always ate the same thing.
The photos are very deceiving, they only show photos of the top of the hotel, where there is a view of the sea, the pool and jacuzzi, then when you check in, where we just say our name and they give us the key and say half a dozen basic things, we realized that we stayed in the other part of the hotel, further down, where you can see the sea very far away, it is beautiful, of course, but not as much as shown in the photos!
Good place to store your bags, take a shower, sleep and eat something in the morning!

We spent 4 nights in the upper rooms (there are two buildings, one up and the other up) with mountain and ocean views.
Exceptional setting….
Jacuzzi and swimming pool free to access at any time!

Room 35 is very correct, nothing to complain about.

The two points to improve are:
• the restaurant: the prices and quality are not great. Prefer to go to Marcel’s 1km away for the same price
• breakfast at 8 a.m. is late!
I even think it’s voluntary because for activities/hikes you have to leave early.
So we skip breakfast (if paid for when booking) and we don't consume.
Damage! Therefore, choose to eat breakfast day by day.

That said, I really recommend this place!

The hot tub and the views were the redeeming features. Can't fault the location.

Check in was ok, there was confusion over whether we has paid for breakfast (we had, the pleasant guy that checked us in eventually said it was sorted, the man working in the morning was pretty unwelcoming and clearly hadn't been told). Room 40 has a very smelly bathroom, had to sleep with the windows open to make it close to bearable!

I wished we'd saved the £12 )and the hassle) associated as the breakfast was very basic and the restaurant had flies all around the buffet food. Check out was the same guy as breakfast.

Glad we only had the one night here.

Human communication is 55% nonverbal, 38% vocal, and 7% words only.

So words alone cannot do justice to this incredible place, but I will try.

Honesty, passion, experience, and hard work from the staff, combined perfectly with the unrivaled natural beauty of Santana to deliver a memorable and soul touching experience at this ideally located and excellently managed B&B / Restaurant.

The food, to die for. The service, outstanding. The price... I'd pay tenfold.

A must visit gem of Madeira. Thank you for having us.

We loved our ocean view balcony room! The sunrise view from the balcony was the best we had on our entire trip. The staff was so nice and we drank house-made mint Poncha all evening with the managers. They really made us feel welcome. This was one of our favorite stays because it felt less touristy than Funchal or other places on the island. Highly recommend this spoot if you want a simple clean room and the best view.

Worst bed and breakfast ever. This place shouldn't be allowed to exist as it is.
I went on a 1 week family vacations which included me of course, my wife and my 2 kids which are 4yo and 8 months.
Once we arrived to our room the smell of mold was all over the place, also the humidity levels were to high and there was this strange cold feeling although the outside temperatures were between 25-30ºC
We decided to stay since we paid the entire reservation up ahead (worst decision ever!)
On the upcoming day we went down to take a breakfast and please be aware that you either have to walk outside through some long stairs or you have to drive by car. All because the cafeteria/restaurant is in another building way down the hill.
With 2 kids including a baby stroller I wouldn't take the chance of walking those stairs... so, by car it was.
The breakfast was not diverse at all, a poor combination of few things like bread and cereal and this is where I got really frustrated: they were serving yesterday's (or more) bread! Honestly it was so rough and dry that I went to talk to one of the staff members... they confirmed that it was not fresh bread.
Continuing breakfast nightmare, I asked for an expresso coffee and guess what? It's not included! yes, you have to pay for the expresso separately although you are getting old bread for breakfast!
Well, at this point my expectations were already broken and whatever comes after will be just an add-on to the overall nightmare... Well it got even worst:
- The bathtub was rusty, yes you are stepping your feet on pure iron rust
- The walls were filled with humidity and leaks , which is a major cancer contributor (google it)
- You could here the pipes all night long. Yes, every time somebody goes to the toiled you are greeted with a pipe orchestra.
- There is no sound proof from the other guest rooms, you ear everything (and yes, everything includes it)
- There are areas on the room where the floor is elevated, like it at burst out of his misery

Now, you can imagine that this experience with a family of 4 (including a baby) wasn't much fun wasn't it?

Friendly and nice staff who offered us a chupito as soon as we arrived. The room was spacious, clean and with everything in order. They had the opportunity to eat at the restaurant which is located in front of the rooms and it was very good, also at the last dinner they offered us 2 glasses of Poncha. Relaxation area with games such as darts and billiards to spend the evening and 2 jacuzzis for when you return from excursions. What more could you want?

Dated room bordering on cleanliness. Not soundproofed and not heated! Cover worn and stained. Towels smelling musty! We slept for a week with our sweaters and earplugs! The only interest is the view. For tired people, there are several stairs and 2 roads to cross to have breakfast.
