Booked an apt and stayed 10 days. Have recommended to others who have stayed and loved it. A lot to do on the property which has swimming pools, bars, pizza place, fancy restaurant, market, ice cream spot, nature trails, bikes, tennis and kids activity area. Also laundromat. Went down for fresh bread and croissants everyday which needs to be ordered btw in advance. We stayed onsite some days and other days explored surrounding areas. Need a car as no public transport into town. Offer bus trips from the resort for anyone not wishing to drive on their own. Owners very friendly and hope to go back again.
Together with my husband we rented an apartment in Residence La Casetta for 2 weeks in September 2016. We stayed in apartment number 45 for 2 people which at that time cost us 144 Euros per week (in addition we got a 5% discount since we paid cash). We had absolutely amazing and relaxing time. At the adjoining camping Vallegaia you'll find: * 2 pool areas for both children and adults (the big pool is 25m long), * 2 cafes to grab a bite, * Pizza restaurant (Pizzagaia) which serves amazing Italian food, * Robin Hood restaurant which specializes in sea food (a bit overpriced), * courts to play tennis, volleyball, football, basketball, * bowling alley, * big playground for children, * a shop and an ATM next to the reception area (free Wifi here). The apartments are basic but you'll have everything you need (sheets, blankets, towels, crockery, cutlery). If you need to wash your clothes, there are washing machines you can use (you can buy washing powder at the reception). In a nearby town Cecina (6 km away) there's Lidl and Coop so doing the shopping is convenient. NOTE 1: there's no air conditioning in the apartments. NOTE 2: it's best to visit April - June or September - October since prices are much lower than in the high season.…
Worth being aware that the apartments don't have air con and the kitchen is very limited - no kettle or oven. We booked one with two rooms but were only allowed one fan so ended up all sleeping in one room with the fan as it was too hot to sleep without it. You are also charged extra for towels, sheets and cleaning. We were there two weeks and our towels/sheets weren't changed. The towels are also only big enough for a toddler! We were in apartment 37 and it had amazing views. The site is perfect for families but, in hind site, I would have booked a caravan as they have air con and more equipment in the kitchen. I think they cost less too.
We stayed in apartment No 21 on the first floor. It had great views and was just across the road from the pool so very convenient. The apartment was clean and basic and reasonably well equipped although a decent bread knife and a few more glasses would have been nice. There was no air conditioning or fans and the apartment did get very hot at night. However, it was fabulous to watch the sun set and then see all the bats and lizards come out at night to feed whilst sitting on the balcony. The camp site and the grounds of the apartments were very well maintained and the staff fantastic. Pizza Gaia was a firm favourite (and good value) as was the Robin Hood restaurant. The latter was a little more pricey but the food was excellent, in particular the beef carpaccio and the Chocolate and pear Sfoglia. Both pool sites were well maintained and staffed but could get a little busy as it was high season, having said that the pool at the apartments was much quieter and most of the time there was a deckchair available. The site is well placed for visiting places such as Volterra and Pisa and there are good beaches within 30 minutes - our particular favourite was Baratti Bay but go early to get a parking place! Unfortunately, the one thing that spoiled the holiday was the noise. In most of the literature the campsite and apartments say it is a quiet site. The no-noise policy was from 11.30pm until 8am but there was regular noise in between these hours when people came back to the apartments or were sitting outside on their balconies - sometimes until 2 in the morning. There was entertainment on on 2 nights of the holiday at the bar which carried on past this time, plus then you had the noise of everyone returning back. The campsite is justly proud of it's new play area next to Pizza Gaia but it seemed to be a meeting point for everyone's unsupervised teenagers on the campsite which meant that from about 9pm until 10.45pm (when the lights were eventually switched off) there was an incredible amount of noise - some nights there was football style chanting with nothing being done to stop it. This noise meant that sitting out on the balcony between the hours of 9 and 11pm was not really that pleasant. For us, this really affected our enjoyment of the apartments. In summary, a great little place to stay but for us a bit too noisy. We chose this campsite as it was suggested it was a quiet site - but unfortunately the actions of several inconsiderate individuals and the fact that kids were left to make as much noise as they wanted really spoiled things. We would not return just for this reason. It's a shame as it could be a gem of a place.…
We have just returned today from another fabulous holiday here. We stayed in apartment number 2 ( for 3 people ) and it was ideal. The site is immaculate, the staff are all very friendly and the facilities are spot on. It's all very low key so if you are looking for a party scene then this isn't for you. What it does have is 2 great bars, a fantastic pizzeria which serves traditional food at really reasonable prices, a lovely on site restaurant which is open to the public and often frequented by locals, a well stocked shop, and lots of good play areas for kids. And 2 separate pool complexes which ticks all the boxes for us. If you are out for when the pool opens you can often get a nice early morning swim to yourself - it's perfect! We have been here 6 times now and love it. The site is great but there is also lots to do and see nearby that you will be spoilt for choice. Nearby we especially like Bolgheri, Castagnetto Carducci, Casale Marritimo and a bit further you have lots of choice including Siena, Florence, San Gimignano, Volterra.... The choice is endless, and the whole region is just gorgeous. Am sure we will be back…
