Eric and Thida is an excellent couple, running a fantastic B & B there. We enjoy so much during our stay there.
1. Breakfast: You can't imagine how Eric fulfill our needs for our local food during long business trip in France; he went to supermarket to find materials to cook the porridge for us and even dim-sum in the morning, with Chinese sauces. I am sure no matter where you are from, he will just fulfill your needs with his best effort. He used to work in New Yok for 25 years as a chef, so you will know how fantastic if you live there enjoying a great Chef's breakfast.
2. Great view for the Dordone River;
3. Great showering facility;
4. Great pool even though in winter, we haven't enjoyed it, kind of pity;
5. Great inner space;
6. Considerate services;
7. Historic building of more than 250 years.

I can say it is the best B & B we've ever lived in France. Friends, no hesitation, if you go there, just live there and you will know how wonderful it is to live there.

Eric and Thida, thanks again!!!

As former residents and vineyard owners nearby for many years, this was our first return to the area or opportunity to stay there. The owners have done a wonderful job in restoring the mansion in tasteful French mode-- furnishing the large high-ceiling rooms with antiques, but modernizing the bathrooms, and installing double pane windows. Downstairs, the grand piano in the living room, expansive dining table for breakfast and small "greenhouse" indoor pool add to the luxe accommodation. Breakfast is an offering of most anything you might wish but the best part is the breads M. LaGrange picks up early in the morning. I must add the views on the bridge, Dordogne River, boxwood garden, its fountain and comfortable seating were perfect for a glass of wine. Parking is easy behind the building. M.and Mme. La Grange spent years in NYC- you will find them knowledgeable and exceedingly friendly.

We stayed in the self catering Gite in the gardens of the b&b, last June, and in summary we couldn't have made a better choice. We loved the character and quirkiness of the property, and the beautiful gardens and view across the river. This was our first trip abroad with our 6 month old, and Thida and Eric went out of their way to help us, even going to the trouble of buying a baby bath for the property when I asked if there was one. We spent many happy mornings with our little boy splashing about in his bath in the garden, then settled in for a barbecue most evenings - a particular treat on market day, which is a must! The location is ideal - walkable to a supermarket, restaurants and a lovely river beach and picnic area, and an easy drive to beautiful local villages. Lovely place, great hosts and we would definitely be pleased to return.

We asked for a quiet room but the traffic noise from the road bridge adjacent to the hotel was a noisy distraction. Parking is around the back of the hotel and as our room was not in the main house it was a bit of an obstacle course to carry our luggage past the pool and through the house. Eric seemed to be managing things alone when we arrived and on our second night there was nobody managing the hotel - our knocks were met with loud barking from the resident alsation dog. We needed bathroom supplies and had to wait until the next morning when Eric appeared at breakfast time. Things improved when Tilda was back but we were somewhat disappointed by this hotel - not up to standards claimed in previous reviews. The town over the river is lifeless and it can be a challenge to find even just a drink in the evening. Overall we would stay closer to Bordeaux next time.

So we stayed here for the first two nights after our wedding. It was next door to our venue and perfectly located to walk into Ste-Foy-la-Grande. The owners were warm and welcoming and we loved hearing about their transfer from NYC to rural France.

Our rooms was superb - we stayed in the red room - and we had a breathtaking view of the stunning garden and Dordogne river. Breakfast was a delight - we're both still dreaming about the croissants as we ate in the dining room overlooking the garden.

Thank you for kicking our marriage off in such style. We will definitely be back!

Behind a plain wall lies a dream setting.
The open plan layout of the cottage compliments the grand aspects to the location.
The swimming pool setting and style is amazing.
Both Eric and Thida were very attentive owners who allowed us full use of facilities.
Their friendly dog "Fiji" added to the enjoyment of our stay.
Port Saint-Foy offered the perfect backdrop to the location.
It was pure bliss - eating breakfast and evening meals outside.
Fantastic as a central base to tour the Dordogne region.
We can't recommend this highly enough. A perfect cottage for a dream holiday.

A beautiful place to stay; we spent 3 nights in the terrace room, overlooking the garden & river. We enjoyed warm evenings on the terrace with a bottle of wine chilled in our fridge. Breakfasts in the elegant dining room were memorable and our hosts a delight. A great place for touring the surrounding area. We hope to return.

Hi , we stayed at la Batellerie in July 2012 and I can't recommend it highly enough.
We travelled with two children one of thirteen and one of four . It was so beautifully done out and everything a family could wish for was taken into consideration. In our case a big bonus with having a four yr old was the pool being in the main house , accessible from early morning to late at night but not having to worry that if we took our eye of him for a moment he could fall in meant even mum and dad could relax .A BIG BONUS !!!!
The gardens were kept beautifully and the view overlooking the dordogne as you enjoyed your meal and sipped your wine was fab . Our hosts were so friendly and helpful and having wonderful English could guide us to all the great spots to visit.
The area is beautiful, great for exploring the vineyards of st emillon , Bordeaux is only an hour away and a great city with magnificent architecture . There was an aqua park twenty minutes away plenty of supermarkets and the local town of st foy en ponchapt had a weekly market which is on your door step .
To my big surprise unusually so I didn't get eaten by Mosquitos !! The dordogne river has a good flow but very shallow and hosts a chorus of frogs which we think keep the mosi population down and provide you with great musical entertainment at night lol .
The temp is perfect for those with young children too . Bring some DVDs for those cosy up nights with the kids and you couldn't want for anything more . Can't wait to visit again.

This is really a small boutique hotel without a reception desk. The location on the Dordogne River is unique. The building is a well renovated 1750 "in town" Chateau with large rooms and private bathrooms. The french owner is a former New York chef and restaurateur. Consequently the all organic breakfast is french and fantastic. The location is good if you want to explore the Saint-Emilion vineyards and the Dordogne River Valley. The owner can arrange for visits to the local Bergerac vineyards and dinner can be arranged at the " small boutique hotel". Great value and great ambiance.

I stayed here for four nights in May 2012 and would recommend it for anyone who likes somewhere special.
Overlooking the Dordogne River it is uniquely placed for a special holiday.
The heated indoor pool was great and the breakfast was superb.
The owners went to great lengths to make our stay special.

Hello, We have fidji (that is the name of my dog) for five years, as much as we own the bed and breakfast. She is always free in the house and as meet hundreds of guests, women, men and young children never ever she as bitten any one or even intimidated any one. i did talk to your sister and we agree that fidji will be kept inside lock in our house for the week and will not be free in our garden and in the pool area, she will be walk outside twice instead of once. Now talking to your sister she admitted to me that she is suffering from a extreme fear of dogs and that something we never had to deal with until now. Hopefully she will be able to be more secure now, not thinking about Fidji. Sincerely, Eric Lagrange.
