Our 2nd stay at the Allamanda. We felt like we'd come home. Warm kind staff. Clean comfortable room. Steps from the beautiful beach. The wonderful sea almond tree I love to sit under is still there. Grounds kept so nice. We just love it all & hope to return in the not too distant future.
Three night stay with friends. Excellent big rooms, with most facilities. Would have preferred a kettle to the coffee machine. Lots of nice restaurants, coffee shops etc nearby, which was good as the hotel restaurant never seemed to be open and when it was did not have many customers. Access to the beach was excellent and the staff very friendly.
Look, most of the critical things are there to make this a great place. Location is definitely 10/10, for instance. The rooms are acceptable, quite spacious, and the grounds are nothing special, but nor are they shabby. I understand that it's not a luxury resort, and frankly appreciate that, cause they have a reasonable price point. However, there's some sloppy aspects to it, like how the rooms could be cleaner (bed clean, bathroom clean, floor not so much), and better maintained. Specifically on that maintenance point, the mosquito nets had gaps fitting in the window and I got a few love kisses from those buzzing ladies of the blood drinking variety. None of the above were enough to "ruin" our stay, but I definitely can see room for improvement, so will say 4/5. Could be a lot better if only a little more effort was made. Other than that, I heartily commend their nice balconies for every room, their fridge/safe in every room, their front desk staff who were courteous and helpful, and of course the perfect location and value for the price paid. -V/B…
Despite a perfect location in the center of Grand Anse Beach, we found this hotel to be pretty depressing overall. Rooms in particular were dark and dated. Despite the promise of an ocean view, our bed faced a wall, and we could barely see the outside from the room (let alone the water). The fountain in the lobby was empty, and there were dead flowers in vases on the wall. There's a restaurant associated with the hotel on the premises, but dinner was very mediocre. It doesn't take much to make me happy in the Carribean, and I've stayed at some very simple, basic places that I've loved. But overall, the Allamanda left us feeling rather low. It's too bad, because with a little work, this could be a nice place.
The Restaurant on site was very expensive and was empty of people most of the time. But i would definitely stay there again as Umbrellas was a 5 minute walk away on the beach and was heaving with people, music and great food all at a reasonable price. Staff at the Allamanda were very helpfull and friendly.
