This was the first stop on our Dolomites Val Gardena hiking trip. What an exceptional find. This family owned rifugio rivals many of the top hotels we stayed at during our trip. We always stop here when hiking from Col Rodella. The service is always great and the setting is wonderful. It gives us a chance to rest before continuing on our day's hike. 3 of us hiked over from Sellajoch and stayed in the dorm rooms in Rifugio Sassopiatto. Dorm rooms were rather spacious and clean, with a lovely view from the window as well. Rather empty early in the season, especially if you go on weekdays - only about 10-20 people staying over, which makes for a rather comfortable stay. The family...

We did a long trek over four days & stayed here one night, after the other places it was like a palace. You have to book as it is very popular, you can only reach by foot. The double room was clean, there is a washbasin but the shower is communal, notwithstanding that it was fine. You cannot expect ensuite...
