Nestled on a prime beachfront, the Fairmont Royal Pavilion impresses with its stunning ocean views and spotless cleanliness, as guests have called out the pristine condition of the rooms and grounds. However, opinions diverge when it comes to value and service; while some visitors commend the friendly staff, others are left disappointed by slow service and feel the high prices don't match the worn and outdated aspects of the hotel. Despite the beautiful beach and relaxing atmosphere, the lack of vibrancy and service inconsistencies mar the overall experience for many travelers.

Our stay at the Fairmont Royal Pavillion could not have been better! We arrived at the airport and had previously arranged through the hotel a transfer to the hotel. We were met promptly as we entered the terminal and escorted quickly through immigration to our vehicle. Our driver, Ronaldo, drove us to the hotel in his new BMW 5 series. At the hotel we were met and went to our beautiful room (#332) overlooking the water. Everything in the room was perfect. During our five-day stay the hotel staff was always attentive. Our room was refreshed every morning and evening including more water bottles, coffee etc. The hotel and hotel grounds were in near perfect condition. On the beautiful beach, the chaises and cushions were either new or near new and there was never a problem getting a comfy spot for the two of us on the beach under an umbrella with plenty of nice, fluffy towels. The staff was remarkable. Our waitress Teresa, dining hostess Sabrina, beach waitress Nicole, and lunch time waiter Seth all made the visit effortless. In addition, Khadijah did a wonderful job for us arranging a rental car to be dropped off at the hotel, golf at the Royal Westmoreland Golf Course, as well as suggestions on sites to visit during our stay. Breakfast each morning had everything you could want (and more) and dining at Taboras and the Palm Terrace Restaurant left no reason to eat anywhere else. Oh yes, there was music at Taboras and in the main bar each night. We were glad the dock out in the water survived the hurricane as we enjoyed swimming to it often. Ours was a wonderful vacation here that was topped off by seeing a few monkeys skittering about the grounds. Well worth the stay!

The location, hotel and staff are fantastic.

However, the Taboras restaurant is very inconsistent. We had to return several items because they were either too salty, overcooked and simply not up to the Fairmont standard of excellence. Some items at Taboras like the pizza, tuna crudo, beet salad, salmon poke bowl, coconut prawn shrimp, mushroom risotto, shrimp linguine were great. The Taboras club sandwich may have been the worst sandwich I have ever had (stale tough bread, overcooked chicken and simply no flavour). Despite the Taboras food inconsistencies, the staff and manager dealt with our concerns with excellent care and respect. They were happy to "make things right" and showed empathy, understanding and genuine customer care.

The breakfasts are wonderful with a great selection of fresh fruit, chia seed puddings, croissants & pastries, and the fundamental hot and cold English breakfast items. The Lot 35 tea selection is sublime. The ocean front view from the Palm Terrace at breakfast is serene.

The food at the other Fairmont RPV restaurant, Palm Terrace, was excellent - well executed, on point and delicious. The Chef, Tim, came to our table to introduce himself which we absolutely loved. The servers were also attentive and terrific.

The staff are phenomenal. They are warm, genuine, caring, engaging and sincerely interested in making your stay the best possible. The staff that stood out the most, consistently demonstrating excellence in customer care were: Hakeem Scott, Simon, Jason, Mary-Ann, Renée, Nicole, Najae, Cherece, Judy and Esther. Unfortunately, I am missing some names but honestly, ALL the front desk staff and most of the staff were wonderful. One taller gentleman who served us in room dining and whose birthday is July 1 was exceptional (sadly, I forgot his name). The above mentioned really stood out to us for their genuine dedication to customer satisfaction. These noted people truly made our days better with their bright smiles, positive energy and genuine commitment to their guests.

The rooms were beautiful and very clean. The housekeeping team is spectacular and always made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We absolutely loved the balcony curtain which provided seclusion and privacy on our large terrace. The Dedon sun lounger is the most comfortable sun lounger I have ever experienced - we are looking forward to purchasing one of our own for our outdoor space.

The beach is phenomenal with crystal clear water that sparkled like diamonds at dusk. The loungers and chair cushions are very comfortable, clean and well managed by Simon, Nathan and the beach team.

Overall, we loved our stay and we look forward to our return. Thank you to the Fairmont Staff for giving us an exceptional and phenomenal honeymoon.

I was staggered to read the couple of negative reviews on here having now stayed a week at the Fairmont. The location, service, staff and amenities are all fantastic.

We booked the ground floor room with decking, free transfers and butler service which we highly recommend. The transfers went really smoothly, picked up literally off the plane and escorted through fast track security and offered a beer in the Concierge lounge as our car was a few minutes away, Laura our driver gave us a few tips on places to eat on the journey over (about half and hour) and dropped us to the door where we were got a warm reception from Wanda, a glass of Rum Punch (get used to that!) and then were taken to the room by our butler Rolston who was ably assisted by Dawn, Edwin and Peter over the week. Dawn was great with organising the outbound transport and late check out and the butlers will also help with any restaurant bookings etc. you want.

Room was amazing, right on the beach, spacious and bright, and the private decking with really comfy loungers looks out at the sunset each night. Beach attendants are very attentive, especially Michael (Mr Rainbow Socks) who like all Bajans takes time to chat every time you see them.

Staff in the hotel are also great, too many to mention but Adrian (Mr Omelette) Chereese, Shania, and especially Nicole stood out.

Breakfast is plentiful and has a massive choice of anything you might think, with a local content as well, and choice varies daily from the hot buffet. Also an egg station for omelettes, poached eggs etc. Most days it is in the Palm Terrace Restaurant which looks out onto the beach, bit a couple of times it was in Taboras the other restaurant due to private functions being held at the Palm Terrace, this was well communicated in advance and made no difference to the breadth of choice etc. in fact it was nice to have the variety of locations over the week for breakfast.

We also ate once in the evening and once at lunchtime at Taboras (see separate review) which was excellent and as far as lunch is concerned well priced against the local beach bars (similar price to JuJus, Jumas etc, for the food although the beers are more expensive here as you would expect.)

Free use of non-powered watersports (Hobie Cats, Kayaks etc.) and also free mask and snorkel from the Beach Club at the south end of the hotel.

All in all a truly wonderful experience, made very special by the fabulous staff and a hotel we will definitely return to.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

We recently returned from 8 days (9 in the end as BA cancelled our flight home) at the Fairmont and can only say that, despite having a great holiday, we were very disappointed with the hotel itself. This is supposed to be a luxury 5 star hotel, but there were none of the little touches you would expect - no complimentary ice box with water on the beach, no sorbet or fruit or cold flannels brought round, in fact bar service on the beach was very hit and miss completely. We often had to help ourselves to beach towels as there was no-one in the hut at the beach and on a few occasions around the hotel it felt as if we had to interrupt personal conversations to get attention. Again, not 5 star.
Despite BA warning us (though only after booking I would add, as we would have booked elsewhere had we known) that the main restaurant and bar would be closed during our stay, we had no idea how much this would impact our holiday. The area was covered in ripped plastic and the noise, dirt and sometimes even smell made the pool and outside bar area unusable. Even some of the beach was made unusable too - who wants to listen to hammering and drilling while they are on holiday? We were informed by BA that another restaurant would be available, which we did try on our first night, but despite the food being ok the service was unbelievably slow, so we ate out every night after that. Also the bar available was soulless with harsh lighting. The hotel beach bar was shabby and not a nice place to spend any time. In our view, the hotel should have been closed while this refurbishment was carried out, as to charge customers top dollar and yet provide such poor value for money is unacceptable in our view. We will be taking his matter up with BA as they were our holiday provider, but the Fairmont should really take responsibility for this.

On the plus side, the hotel is in an idyllic setting on arguably the best beach on the island. The gardens are beautiful and we spotted monkeys a couple of times. The rooms are good with great balconies and views, but we feel this hotel trades on it's location and could be so much better. The staff however were all friendly and tried to be helpful, but the service wasn't slick like in some other hotels we have stayed at on the island and elsewhere. The fact that we are not new to the island saved this holiday, as we knew where to go and what to do away from the hotel, but for the money this hotel should be much, much better than it is.

Dear SusieJM, We deeply appreciate your thorough and candid feedback of your vacation at Fairmont Royal Pavilion. Thank you for acknowledging the idyllic beach front location, the well maintained grounds and accommodation and of course our courteous staff who as you said, provided assistance any way that they could have. This is surely what our guests deserve. What you have described in your review falls below the high service standards we are known for and pride ourselves on. Please be assured that your constructive comments are very helpful to guide internal conversations with our Management teams when addressing areas to improve. It certainly was not our intention to cause discomfort to our guests whilst we made provisions to enhance our restaurant and again please accept our apologies. Thank you for visiting our paradise island Barbados once again, we are sincerely sorry that we missed the mark during your stay. We would love for you to give us another opportunity to show you the five-star experience that you deserve as our valued guest.

Very disappointing!
We had no idea we were going during “off season” so the Main Restaurant was closed for lunch and dinner. Slow service due to low staff. Had to constantly go to bar and wait in line to order drinks for pool and beach areas because “chair service” attendants had to work both the pool and beach by themselves. Had to beg staff to get towels and chairs.
Staff took long lunch breaks so forget getting food or drinks 1-3.
Mini bar fridge was only for storage, cooler did not work so we had to order a refrigerator for the room.
Bottled Water had filament type things floating in it. Had to beg and pay for water.
Housekeeping was hit or miss coming to the room but finally after about the 4th day more staff arrived.
Dirty dishes from room service or late night drinks were left all over the resort. We watched staff walk by them numerous times before cleaning it. I finally took one tray that had been sitting outside one of the rooms to the bar myself.
I realize they couldn’t help the major Beach erosion that had recently occurred but this closed the main entrance to the beach area so we had to walk a good distance to get to the beach.
Jet skis not associated with the resort docked in swim area and would drive around the swimmers.
A large party boat with deafening music slowly sailed through 4 times a day. The thumping bass woke us up at 1 am and 6 am everyday. I realize they had no control over this but it was annoying.
Of all the staff we encountered over 7 days, only a few seemed helpful and pleasant. Danielle, Ashlee and Gabrielle were great, everyone else seemed annoyed we were there. We left the (only open) restaurant twice before getting service, after waiting 15-20 minutes.
Mr. Young, the onsite manager, was nice and apologetic. Even had a special meal made to order for us one night.
Breakfast buffet was amazing. The only thing we looked forward to. Rooms all have beautiful views, the only other nice thing to say. Sadly disappointed and now see why we got a discounted rate to book during that time. If we had paid full price we would have been irate. Cannot recommend.

This resort charges 5 star plus prices and has access to a five star beach. Everything else, on our stay, was substandard - and the room, food and service were at most in the 3-4 star range,

Our “suite” was in fact a junior suite in need of substantial refurbishment. The hot water in the bathroom was at best warm and there was poor general lighting. The much vaunted butler service was minimal, failing on 5/7 days to materialise. Often the room wasn’t cleaned until the afternoon and laundry was delivered usually late.

The not particularly special breakfast buffet was regularly covered with flies and as a result unappetising and unfit. (Incidentally, it was a surprise to have to pay previously unmentioned taxes on an included breakfast. The coffee and tea service was routinely slow.

Dinners in each of the two hotel restaurants were lacklustre.

Apart from the bar and the often wet entrance lobby, there was little lounge space.

The hotel suffers from the lack of a spa.

The ladies on reception were kind and helpful as was the beach attendant. Correspondingly, other staff were not particularly helpful - and sometimes verging on aggressive.

This hotel is very tired, we had a beach view suite which had a beach view at night but during the day all we saw were umbrellas from the sunbed placed outside our decked room. There were screws sticking out of the decking. Rugs were worn, the cooler smelt and didn’t keep anything cool, after complaining it took a week to be given a fridge freezer, the swimming pool was dirty, the staff had no urgency. The restaurant for breakfast had birds poo on the seats that had not been cleaned and took 15mins most days to be seated, service was slow and they ran out of avacados, pina colada, and strawberry daiquiri . Service round the pool was near non existant. The bar was dirty, dirty glasses continuously on the sides. Tables were never wiped over and we found dirty plates and glasses dotted around the hotel that were left for days. We had a glass and a cup left on a wall of our room which was there for over a day. We were supposed to have a butler who we didn’t see for the first six days, then only saw him three times within the last 4 days. No one seemed to know what they were doing. The general attitude of staff at the front desk was rude. In our last day we waited at the restaurant for lunch and the girl seating people (we were the only two) completly ignored us and walked off, we decided to walk along the beach to lone star where the service was amazing. Its a shame as the food at the hotel was really nice but the service was awful. Apart from that there were a few staff that were great, Roselle was lovely and nothing was too much trouble, Nicolle and Renico, Marva, Richard and Jalissa were great.
We would not come back to this hotel it’s more a 3 * hotel not 5.

⭐ A Disappointing Decline at the Fairmont Royal Pavilion, Barbados

It’s heartbreaking to write this review for a hotel that once held such fond memories. Since my last visit in April 2023, the Fairmont Royal Pavilion has drastically lost its way. Once a beacon of luxury and outstanding service, it has become a profit-driven, overpriced, and poorly managed disappointment.

💸 Prices Up, Service Down:
The prices have skyrocketed, yet the service has plummeted. On my previous visit, I rated the hotel 5 stars; now, it doesn’t even deserve 1. As a Fairmont Platinum member, I was appalled by the lack of recognition at check-in. , and a month after leaving still no points allocated. Amenities that were previously standard—such as a welcome beach bag—are now nonexistent, and only one bottle of water was provided for two guests. For a hotel charging over $2000 per night, this is unacceptable.

🏚️ Dated Rooms and Poor Maintenance:
The rooms are small, tired, and poorly maintained. My room had a broken toilet roll holder, a cracked sink, and a broken mini bar—all of which remained unresolved despite my complaints. At no point did management offer a solution, leaving me to endure these issues throughout my stay.

🍳 Subpar Breakfast:
Breakfast, priced at £36 per person, was a major letdown. The quality was far from what you’d expect at a luxury resort. After trying it once, I decided it wasn’t worth repeating.

📉 Profit Over Guest Experience:
The entire resort feels dated and neglected, with a clear shift in focus toward maximizing profits rather than enhancing the guest experience. Despite multiple attempts to request a meeting with management, my concerns were ignored. This lack of accountability and care speaks volumes about the current state of the hotel.

💔 Final Thoughts:
The Fairmont Royal Pavilion has gone from being a treasured destination to the worst Fairmont in the group. Apart from its location next to the ocean, there’s very little positive to say. This was my fourth visit, and it will certainly be my last.

For a hotel that once stood for excellence, the decline is both shocking and disappointing. Guests will not tolerate paying premium prices for subpar accommodations and service. A significant change in management and focus is urgently needed before this hotel loses all credibility.

Save your money and stay elsewhere—Barbados has plenty of other options that offer genuine luxury and hospitality.

Our experience mirrored others here. We only stayed one night as we were picking up a cruise the following day. The hotel is tired looking, our room had a great view over the beach and that is what they trade on, its prime position.

The bed was large and comfortable and the bathroom with its walk in shower perfectly adequate but there was no mini bar or fridge, both being updated apparently. Not good.

The furnishings in the room were showing signs of wear and tear and one the drawers in the dressing table was damaged and ill fitting. Where basic maintenance had been carried out, painting walls for instance, no care had been taken to ensure no smudges or runs and instead of removing fixtures and fittings they had been painted around and not very carefully either.

I pointed out all of this to reception when we checked out. They listened and apologised but it was perfunctory because no doubt they had heard it all before.

If you are going to charge 5 star prices then provide a 5 star resort with 5 star services. We stayed previously at the Coral Reef Club, similar prices but world’s apart. I wish we had done so this time.

Fabulous hotel with fantastic ocean view rooms from the 2nd and 3rd floors. Spotlessly clean with a range of excellent facilities. From our arrival we were very well looked after. Quick check in process, cold towels, cocktails and a guided tour of the room and its facilities. A superb buffet breakfast was included with everything you could imagine. Hot and cold food was on offer, with excellent service throughout. Lunch and dinner was available in the Taborus restaurant, which also provided breakfast. The Palm restaurant was also open from Wednesday through to Sunday for dinner. Excellent facilites included a gym, pool (with sunbeds), and a fabulous stretch of sandy beach next to the turquoise Caribbean sea, (with more sunbeds). Pool attendants were happy to help set up sunbeds with covers and towels. Regular patrols by beach attendants took and delivered drinks orders, We dined at the Taborus restaurant in the evening which provided a varied menu at reasonable prices for the Carribean. Concierge and reception were very helpful in organising taxis and tours. The hotel gardens are beautiful , with a free garden tour available mid week. There was a bus stop on the main road just outside the hotels, although we did not use the local buses. This is a superb hotel with friendly and professional staff to look after you on holiday. Watersports were available from the adjacent Beach Club with a range of equipment including Hobie Cats, Paddleboards, kayaks and snorkelling equipment (all free to use apart from the Hobie Cats). A special mention for Ryan who is one of the instructors. As we do not sail he took us out on a Hobie Cat and gave us a guided tour of the local coastline whilst keeping us amused by his stories, He really is a credit to the Beach Club. There is also a bar , toilets and an outside shower. This really was an excellent holiday and we would highly recommend this hotel on the lovely West coast.

The last week of August the hotel started extensive repairs to the exterior. New scuppers, stucco repairs and painting. Large crews were making good progress when we left September 1. Call the hotel.
