Detailed Reviews
Irish hospitality is alive and well in Altazamuth House.
Mary runs a wonderful establishment. It is impeccably clean we had a generous size family room for myself, husband and 2 young children. The breakfast was delicious and filled us up for the day. There's a beautiful garden to sit and relax in and if that's not possible she has a lovely big porch/conservatory to the front to sit in and plan your day. Altazamuth House is literally a stones throw from the village and all its amenities.
Mary gave us a great history on the house and its previous use as a cinema.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this place. Mary was even kind enough to post my daughter's "blankie" back to us, which we had left in the bed, washed and all.
We will definitely be returning.

We stayed 1 night at Altazamuth House. Rooms are very nice and cozy. We were 2 families with kids. We had room number 5 which had a fantastic view on Valentia harbor. Breakfast was great and the owners were lovely and helpful.

This was our first visit to Valentia Island. We arrived mid afternoon having reached the island by car ferry at Renard Point near Caherciveen (€7 one way). We based ourselves in Knightstown, the largest of the island’s villages, a very quaint village which was an excellent base for exploring the island. The sun was shining when we arrived at Altazamuth House. Upon arrival, we were greeted so very warmly, friendly and welcoming by Mary who took care of our check in swiftly and professionally. She kindly treated us to a cuppa and biscuits to help revive us after our lengthy journey! We felt at home from the moment we stepped inside. Mary and her husband Nealie were very informative about the island and gave us lots of tips. The house, a former cinema, was immaculate. Our room overlooked the lovely garden; beds were dressed with lovely fresh crisp linen and were extremely comfortable. Mary prepared a very nice breakfast each morning which was served in a lovely bright conservatory. Altazamuth House is ideally situated within walking distance of village amenities with ample parking available on site. Overall a fantastic weekend and looking forward to a return visit in the future!!

A beautiful location. We drove across the bridge when we arrived. There's a continuous little car ferry which is close to the B&B. Handy parking right outside.
This is a perfect base to explore Valentia island. Close to little shops, hotel bar and restaurants to enjoy short walks and far enough away to ensure peace and tranquility. Nice little walk to the Altazamuth stone and through the gardens, by the harbour back up to the B&B.
We enjoyed, the hill climb, the cliff walks, the grotto and the Skellig experience. The views from the highest viewing point are 360 degrees and stunning.
There's a pretty garden to sit in at the B & B to enjoy a quiet moment.
Mary and Nealy keep a lovely guesthouse. We still can't believe Mary sent us away without paying, there's no card machine and we hadn't enough cash. How trusting is that! Of course we sent the money as soon as we got home. Hopefully Mary has a paypal account now to help with this.
Great shower, very clean facilities, lovely fluffy towels. Provided handsoap and tissues much appreciated extras.
Lovely breakfast too. There's plenty of choice. We had the full Irish, no room for anything else!
Thank you for a really enjoyable stay.

Had a lovely night's stay here. Rooms were modern, spotless and comfy (with a powerful shower!) Mary the landlady, couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. She also gave us loads of background history to her house and the beautiful town of Knightstown. She was also very helpful with our vegetarian requests. Will definitely be recommending this B & B and will hopefully return too!

Room Tip:Â I would imagine all the rooms are quiet as it is just a little bit of the main road.

Altazamuth House….where does one begin….. To be honest there is no contest; the overriding advantage of this house is its owners Mary and Nealie. They are just the best hosts ever.
We were welcomed on arrival and shown to our room professionally and courteously by Mary. Our room was spotless and had everything required. The beds were exceptionally comfortable and silence prevailed so we slept soundly on both nights of our stay. Breakfast was served in a lovely sunny room that was calming and conducive to relaxation. One gets the feeling that nothing is too much trouble here.
The house is ideally located. Whilst in Knightstown we walked up to Geokaun Mountain and Cliffs, did Bray Head Loop and walked directly from Altazamuth House to the Lighthouse and on to the slate Quarry. The views were spectacular. Temperatures were low so we didn’t get to picnic or while away time in the wonderful garden at Altazamuth House but in more clement weather that would be very appealing. In the evening there were pubs and the hotel in which to eat and enjoy traditional music.
Both Mary and Nealie had a way of giving you information without fuss or crowding you, they instinctively know how to treat all the various guests. Thank you Mary and Nealie for making our stay special.

We stayed in a family room here during the Valentia Isle Festival. The room was large and clean with stunning views of the island. The house is a former cinema (!) and there are photos in the hall of how it used to look.
Our host was welcoming, friendly and accomodating. She was very understanding about our late arrival, was happy to chat with us about the history of the house and cooked us a great breakfast every day.
Would definitely stay again.

This was a fantastic choice. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, very cosy, and there was a beautiful view of the ferry crossing from the bedroom window. The hostess was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The breakfast and location was perfect. I would highly recommend it!
