I have been visiting the beautiful island of Valentia in Kerry for the last 14 summers. This year's visit was one with a difference, we decided to camp for a week using our relatively new tailgate tent. Emma was our contact in the Valentia Island Caravan and Camping site. Because of our tailgate tent, we had very specific requirements including an electrical hookup. Emma was very patient and helpful, she even sent me pictures of the spot she thought work for us. (Which it did.)

When we arrived on the site, we felt very welcome and we were brought to our pitch. The pitch had well maintained grass on soft, well drained ground which meant it was easy to put in the tent pegs.

The campsite is a medium size, with mostly static mobile homes, but there are some well spaced hard pitches for touring caravans and campervans. There is also a good size green area for tents at the front of the site. The toilets, showers and campers kitchen were always really clean, even in wet, mucky weather.

My only negative remark (outside the control of the campsite management) is that cars drive very fast along the road to the campsite in spite of the 50km speed limit so be very careful when exiting the site.

Overall it is a quiet, reasonably sheltered, well run family caravan and campsite within walking distance from the pretty little village of Knightstown. Walsh's shop is a very well stocked little grocery shop in the middle of Knightstown and offer a good range of foodstuffs suitable for caravan and camp cooking.

I enjoyed our stay there and I would definitely reccomend it.

Hi Mandy thank you for taking the time to write such an honest review. We are actively in talks with the council about measurements which can be put in place to reduce the speed limit on the main road outside the campsite but to date they have done very little to control this ongoing speed issue. We look forward to seeing you both again in July. Best wishes Emma

What a fab place! Nicest people ever, both at the campsite and within Knights town. I’m almost reluctant to post this at the risk of not being able to get booked next year. Lovely small site. High water flow showers, clean facilities, easy access, friendly atmosphere and village pubs (2) and shop (1) with 5 minutes walk. Amazing food vans in the village during tourist season, with the best loaded fries I’ve ever eaten. If you like wine on the campsite though, bring some with you as the shop doesn’t sell alcohol.

This is a lovely campsite - kept immaculately clean and not too crowded with a family-friendly vibe. It is superbly located to see the stunning scenery around Valentia Island and this part of the Ring of Kerry. It is a short walk down the hill to Knightstown, and a short walk or cycle down to the beach along a gorgeous Montbretia-lined lane. We stayed for three nights but should have stayed longer to be able to see more of the island and surrounding area. A trip to Skellig Michael is a must. The Cable & Co food trucks in Knightstown made great burgers and pizzas. We will have to stay longer next time!

Myself and my boyfriend finished our wild Atlantic way trip here. We stayed for 2 nights, overall facilities were immaculate (need coins for the showers) ,very crammed camping location . Small area given to tent pichups. If staying, have a decent sized tent that you can cook/sit in as we brought a 2 person pop up tent and weather was too windy and rainy to sit outside . Not the best parking facilities, more suitable for camper vans/mobile homes .
Quite pricy for only a few person tent , given strict rules on gazeboes/shelters .

Sorry that your experience was not what you expected. We can accommodate 12 tents on our campground area which give adequate space between each pitch. The reason we do not allow gazebos or shelters is because we are open to the elements here as you experienced during your stay. In the past we had bad experiences onsite with guests using gazebos and for that reason we do not allow them anymore. I would suggest purchasing a larger tent which will give you extra living space or a tent with an awning attached for outside living. Best wishes Emma

Found this little place as we tripping around South Kerry. Great little campsite with super clean facilities, showers, toilets, kitchen and laundry. Bikes for rent here too and little playground for kids. Owners very friendly and helpful. It’s located on the edge of Knightstown close enough to walk to the village. Cable &co is a food truck with outdoor seating just next to the bigger playground about a 100metres down the road which does good burgers and shakes. The village is quiet like most places at the moment but plenty to do between biking, walking and Watersports.

Just home from a 5 night stay in our caravan. We have visited this campsite before and was equally as happy with it then. The campsite is immaculate along with the kitchenette, toilets and showers. Lovely playground on site , and there is a brilliant large playground and green field play area just across the road from the site. On our first night our little boy fell sick unexpectedly and we didn't have all of the supplies needed with us. Sharon who was working at the time couldn't have been more helpful, John, one of the owners, went above and beyond and brought us in what we needed from his home which was very much appreciated. Highly recommend this campsite, just trying to figure out when we will return!

Thank you for taking the time to post your review and for choosing to stay with us again. We were only happy to help as we have 4 children and know too well what it is like when they feel unwell unexpectedly. Thankfully your little boy didn't need further treatment and is feeling well again. We look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future. Best wishes Emma

Stayed here over the June bank holiday 2021, excellent location for exploring Valentina island, although still under coved restrictions so limited access to hotel for dinning. The campsite is immaculate, toilet block etc. well maintained and very clean. Great value for money...highly recommended if exploring WAW...

The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. The shower/toilet block was all brand new. Lovely hot showers - 1 euro token for 6 minutes - more than we ever needed. Nice small, well-equipped campers' kitchen. Not sure how they would cope if the site was completely full but when we visited it was very quiet and we chose a pitch (level) at the top of the sloping site so we had lovely views across the water back towards Cahirsiveen. The dinosaur footprints, lighthouse and viewing points and grotto all made a fantastic days' cycle around the island. Knightstown is lovely with a terrific creperie, Italian restaurant, hotel and a nice little shop all a couple of minutes' walk away. Mannix Point now has some serious competition as this was much closer to everything we wanted to see.
