Stayed for two nights in July and we absolutely loved the place! Tamarind was comfortable, tranquil, private and had a lovely view of the bay!
Janealle and Porridge were very helpful and hospitable.
We enjoyed the beaches and would definitely return!
Castara Retreats more than lived up to our expectations - this is a not 5* luxury resort - it is however, chic eco accommodation where you get a real Caribbean experience. The apartments blend into the hillside and ours ‘rainforest’ at the level of the...More
Your living space (kitchen & seating) is in the open but with a roof. This natural feel is what makes the place special. We did take a unit where the bedroom had ac & were happy we did. Everyday the local fisherman return to the...More
We were staying on Tobago for 4 days for the first time and wanted a charming hotel with a local feel that didn't resemble a typical touristy resort. We felt we got exactly what we wanted in Castara Retreats and I would highly recommend it....More
My boyfriend and I had booked a flight to Tobago on a whim and we purposefully
left the last couple days of our trip "up in the air." We did a series of AirBnB stays and took a yoga class here with Elspeth and randomly...More

Backed by the deep green of the oldest protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere and framed by mango trees and bamboo, Castara Retreats offers Caribbean vacations in a lush tropical paradise where guests can relax and live in the landscape around them. The lodge accommodation offers 15 separately available areas, each with wonderful privacy and exclusive terraces, which can be rented individually by couples, or together for larger groups and families. The accommodation is specially designed to create open, spacious living areas that allow uninterrupted views of the beach and rainforest, cool sea breezes and the natural sights and sounds of the ocean, rainforest and village. Each lodge or apartment is constructed of red cedar, a local hardwood, and is from sustainable sources. The bedrooms, each with en suite showers and either queen size or twin beds all have full size mosquito nets on suspended wooden frames. The spacious living areas have panoramic views of the two beaches looking north-west and also to the coastline looking south-west, and stunning sunsets over the Caribbean. Each accommodation has the advantage of free Wi-Fi internet access. There is comfortable and stylish seating with both indoor and outdoor dining and all three areas are equipped to a very high standard for self-catering. We have recently completed open-decked Pavilion Bar and Restaurant - already receiving excellent ratings - perfect for a romantic dinner for two or for family groups and events. Less

I'm sure they do - but you may have to pay for the apartment/room full price? This is a super friendly retreat, as is the village, so if you want people to chat to, I don't think Castara or Castara Retreats will disappoint... More

Late answer but Thomas Cook have started direct flights from Manchester to Tobago now- brilliant service better than BA we thought, we used it this month-. They return via Barbados so on the homebound flight because the runway isn't adequate for a transatlantic loaded take off so you fly from Tobago to Barbados, disembark with all your hand luggage as a transit passenger at Barbados airport whilst the aircraft is cleaned, then it's directly back to Manchester.
The flight outbound was about 9 hours. Inbound it's 30 mins to Barbados, wait at airport about 75 mins and flight home about 8 hours (ours was 7 hours because we had a really strong tail wind).
This service is SO much better than a trek to London with another stay in an hotel and Gatwick suffers from more delays and bad weather probs than Manchester.
NOTE: Tobago airport terminal is very basic. It didn't take long at all to get through security but once through there were NO refreshments available except a vending machine.(The kiosk was eventually opened after we'd been there an hour- this was at 3pm) but it was basic and very expensive. Next time I would check in but have a coffee, etc on the ground side and not go through security till much later.
Also I would recommend not getting any duty free Tobago airport if you're flying via Barbados have to go through security again as a transit passenger in Barbados and the 100ml liquid rule applies so they might take your drinks off you. Shop in Barbados duty free whilst you're in transit it's much better and cheaper.
