This place is a MUST. Hard to find- yu drive up to the top of the old city- and park because it is on a tiny side street but no worries because the woman who is there will come to see you. (Acutally maybe the guys who were working called her as this is the kind of town it is) This is the best place with a room and a balcony right on the water way up high! ANd clean and fun- the breakfast room is not to be believed- yu are s in a castle! and the food was delicious. Just walk downtown in the old part- a dinner can be had right on the street by a man and his wife out of a window kitchen for 10E. It was a paradise!
Our stay at Palazzo Mascambruno was a brief 1 night stop on our way to Crucoli Village 25 miles away in the mountains. Our goal on this 18 day journey was to see Crucoli the home of my husband's Italian ancestors. Of all the planning this portion was the part I was most concerned an unsure of. However, I must say that our stay at Palazzo Mascambruno was like a divine intervention. Marinella our host at Mascambruno was amazing. She met us at the train station in Cariati and transported us to the hotel, arranged us in our rooms and even offered dinner options. She also arranged our taxi to Crucoli the next morning and the pick up later that day to get us to the Toretta train station in time for our return to Lamezia. She was truly and angel and her efforts were so appreciated. I wanted to stay longer. There were 5 of us travelling in this group, all adults. Me and my husband, my mother in law, and Uncle and Aunt The 3 relatives were all over 60 and 1 was mildly handicapped (walked with a cane). Be aware there are no lifts/elevators in this beautiful ancient establishment. The stairs are not bad and the entry up them is gorgeous. Breakfast was fabulous, easily the best on our 18 day excursion. Marinella, cooked for us and made an awesome cappuccino. The rooms were comfortable and cool, cool was welcomed in the humidity and heat of summer. The bed were a little too firm for my taste but exhaustion won in the end. Showers and toiletries were appreciated. WiFi was also good allowing us to upload our many photos to our cloud. Lastly the rooms had a beautiful view of the street and ocean in the distance. Dinner out was unique and very fitting for the area but there were several options. Unfortunately the gelateria closed before we were finished with dinner. If you happen to be in or near Cariati, I highly recommend this lovely establishment and if possible you should stay awhile. Loved this stop and hope to return some day. Thank you from the weary but overjoyed American travelers.…
On our way to visit the home village of our ancestors, Crucoli. This nearby accommodation was an incredible experience. Beautiful, welcoming, modern conveniences, historically preserved. If you are anywhere near Cariati this is the place to stay.
This is a charming hotel in the middle of the hilltop village of Cariati. We had a cosy room with a comfortable bed, TV, good WiFi and large bathroom. The breakfast was delicious - there was a selection of bread, pastries, cereal and yoghurt, and Alessandra made us coffee and cooked eggs which she served with prosciutto and cheese.
Stayed here for a hot week in July. What a beautiful place! Magical Cariati, a beautiful village with loads of charm and great restaurants. This little gem is a converted aristocrat's home, beautifully restored with a HUGE breakfast. Unlimited pastries, beautiful fresh fruits, yogurt, almond milk, cereals, meats and cheeses, and the hostess made us omelettes each morning, with a smile! Her mother made a fresh breakfast cake each morning as well. Heaven! Beds were comfy, each room has its own air conditioner. The bathrooms are GORGEOUS, beautiful tile, clean and complete with bidet. Loved this place!
