Martinhal Family Hotels & Resorts is frequently celebrated for its cleanliness and family-oriented amenities, which include pools and play areas that cater well to children and families. The location is generally well-regarded as family-friendly, though accessibility has been questioned by some. While the service receives commendations for attentiveness, especially towards children, there have been mixed reviews about the value it provides, with critics pointing to overpriced amenities and a need for updates in decor. The accommodations themselves elicit mixed reactions, ranging from modern and spacious to outdated.

My husband, 2 small children (age 18 months and 3 years) and I have just returned from the most wonderful week at the Martinhal resort. The baby pool/main pool with slide/trampoline/splash park/VW camper van/play park were perfect for our 2 little ones. The restaurant staff could not be more attentive around the pool. We had breakfast included with our deal; as it wasn't a buffet breakfast style at the restaurant and right next to the pool (our kids had no interest in sitting waiting for food, just wanted to get in the pool!), they offered to bring breakfast to our room everyday. It was really easy to order on the mymartinhal website and was with us within around 30 mins.
The reception staff were also very helpful whenever we needed anything. The children went to the kids club a couple of afternoons and were able to be in the same room together (despite needing to be in separate age groups) which was perfect. We used the babysitting service in the evening 3 times and had the same babysitter each time whom the children had met at kids club (Latoya) who was absolutely lovely. It meant that my husband and I got to have some time together in a restaurant in the evening which was great! We went to Maria's, Julia's and Casa Da Lago - all of which we would recommend, but you need to book in advance. Julia's we managed to find on the night, but there were very few restaurants with availability last minute.
Whilst I would say the villa furniture/decor was a little 'tired' (and the bottom of the pool in the villa needed re-surfacing), I must admit, it did mean we could relax with having the small children in the villa and not feel concerned that they may break some fancy new items! The washing machine was a nice touch esp with small kids. The pool was small, but perfect for a morning dip/an afternoon dip while our youngest had a nap/pre bedtime dip.
The villa was cleaned everyday; some previous comments have criticised the level of cleaning i.e. they just make the beds and give it a flick, but quite frankly, I wouldn't want the cleaners to be there for hours if we are in the villa at the time. A quick flick worked for us/beds made/new towels.
The onsite shop had most things that you would need; there are supermarkets locally that you can go to, but we didn't want to bother with hiring a car, so relied on the shop on site.
The only thing I would note was that there wasn't really any sort of central hub to go in walking distance. We used the taxi service that the hotel offered as and when we wanted to venture out. The hotel did research and provide us with a car hire option, but just stuck to taxis in the end as it was cheaper. I think when we go again, we may hire a car for a couple of days to go and explore the local area more.
We will definitely return as it was such a wonderful family holiday. It was expensive, but for us at the stage we are at with the ages of our kids, it was perfect and worth the money. There were lots of families with similar aged children, so it was lovely for the children to be able to play with others.

We have just returned from five days in villa 90 at Martinhal QL and wish we were still there! We were very lucky with the weather and the location of our villa - having asked if we could be near amenities, we were superbly located just across from the pool hangout and the fabulous breakfast bar. The staff on site could not have been more helpful and we particularly found the breakfast staff to be outstanding. The selection of food available was great, particularly the freshly cooked eggs on request but also the fruit, pastries, cereals and hot food - really set us up for the day. The villa was luxurious and large and came with every conceivable extra you could need, and all spotlessly clean. The final perfect touch was the birthday gift and cake left for me which was very well-received and so thoughtful. I would certainly recommend Martinhal QL to anyone.

I have just come back from a fantastic holiday in Quinta Do Lago at The Martinhal hotel complex. We stayed in a 4 bed villa that was extremely clean, with the "clean and safe seal covid seal" on the front door when we arrived.

The villa was spotlessly clean upon arrival, and the cleaners arrived everyday around 10.30 to keep the villas nice and clean.

We stayed there for 10 nights and had a great time, the villa allowed us to self cater when we wanted or go out for dinners at some of the local outstanding restaurants include Bovino Steak House and Parill Natural.

There is a lovely pool complex at The Martinhal, which has a large pool, and a great bar/restaurant serving great drinks and fantastic food. The restaurant also provides a takeaway service should you want it.

We were looked after fantastically by the bar manager - Hugo, and the waiters incluing Diogo and Shukran looked after us well. They were always on hand to enquire if we wanted another chilled gin and tonic or sagres!.

Should you have children, there is also a great kids club at the pool complex, and our young daughter was entertained by Andrea and Melissa.

Finally, the weather was great, with the sun shining everyday and the temperature between 28- 33 degrees everyday.

So if you are looking for a chilled out, relaxing day in the sunshine, with fantastic customer service then The Martinhal In Quinta Do Lago is for you!

Nothing inherently wrong with the stay or accommodation, but for what they charged I felt it wasn’t value for money. Can only support this through our experience in June 2022.

Properties were being renovated on the resort meaning when you’re trying to enjoy the private garden / pool you’re subjected to building noise & overlooked by builders working on property behind you (appreciate this is just bad timing & very specific to my stay but 1) renovation could be done in the winter, 2) we weren’t made aware of it at time of booking and 3) it was no cheaper than normal and they aren’t cheap!). It gives you the sense of a hotelier that doesn’t really care about guest experience.

Alarm by their main reception was playing up meaning the faint hum of an alarm disturbed a 2nd night sleep - as a family resort it won’t surprise anyone we travelled with kids so being able to get to sleep at a good time is important to us.

Accommodation itself has everything you’d want / need and was on the cusp of what I’d consider 4* but just tired / dilapidated in places. Pool tiles falling off / missing, damaged plaster on the walls by the pool area, hint of mould in the corners of the shower et al - I just felt like property was due an overhaul & owners are squeezing every last penny out of guests before doing so.

If you do stay there’s a great Pingo Dolce supermarket about 5 mins away with much better selection than the on site store, which is both expensive and limited though fresh bread from there was lovely.

Location itself is great for the surrounding area, staff generally lovely and accommodating, kids had a good time - just considerably overpriced for the quality.

We stayed at this resort for one week early August 2023. I cannot stress how much you should not waste your money staying here! Do not be sold by the family friendly angle - it's just marketing!! There are much better places to stay in Quinta and they need to seriously improve their standards across the board if they want to compete. We did check in late due to a flight cancellation so we obviously got one of the poorest villas, but for the money they are charging there should be a general standard enforced across the board. All of the Villa owners should be responsible for a reasonable level of upkeep for their villas. We stayed at peak season so paid a large amount of money for a very poor two bed townhouse with extremely outdated decor. I can accept poor decor but it had not been cleaned properly, there were tiles missing in the bathrooms and the outside area was extremely poor with tiles missing and ants everywhere. We have a 6 year old and a 20 month old baby and the pool area was not suitable for our youngest to walk around. My main issue was the cockroaches, and there were so many of them! I complained 4 times and got no feedback from reception or action of any sort. We were forced to buy cockroach spray and take matters into our own hands. I was so happy to leave at the end of the week.

Martinhal have refused to honour their terms and conditions and to return a 50 % deposit following a cancellation. It is clear and unambiguous in their terms and conditions that the deposit is entirely refundable, provided the cancellation is made before a certain point. They have refused to do so. Serious lack of integrity. Avoid them.

We stayed here last week and absolutely loved it. My 3 year old son loved the playground, playschool Raspinhos and sandpit while my 13 year old daughter got the most enjoyment from the trampoline and indoor swimming pool (November weather overcast on some days). The resort itself is so beautiful everything in the resort is manicured to perfection lawns palm trees villas etc. What struck me most was that almost everybody that I spoke to were repeat customers and tended to visit around Feb/March and Oct/November times.
My advice to anyone visiting here is that the shop on site is quite pricey for example we paid over 20 euro for chicken nuggets and pizza which cost a quarter of the price in the supermarket Pingo loco in the main shopping mall apart from that it was a very enjoyable stay and I can't wait to return.

Cancelled my booking 3 months before we were due to go there with a website with the terms of free cancellation. They tried to insist on offering me credit and are eventually say I will have to wait 30 working days for a refund. Completely unacceptable, illegal behaviour.

Rude, arrogant staff in customer service. Trying to renege on my repayment by making me feel guilty about having to cancel.
The worst experience I have ever had with a hotel.

Went down to Algarve for a quick weekend with friends, we had around 4 villas. From first contact with reservations we knew we would be well taken care off.. they were extremely polite, professional and helpful! At arrival we were happy to see the experience we had with reservations was not luck, from the security guard at the gate to team at check in they were all fantastic! Despite all houses having pool since we were group we went to the main pool... kids had a blast going between trampoline, pool, ping pong while us parents could relax. Hugo the supervisor of MBar was a master handling the parents and kids to ensure we were all well taken care off. For breakfast the fresh warm bread from the deli was just what we needed to start the day well... the only complaint about this weekend was it only lasted 2 days... thank you Martinhal Quinta team and we will be back!
THANK YOU!

We had a fantastic week long family trip with our four year old and 18 month old. Our two bed townhouse had everything we needed and more. Having a buggy, cot, baby monitor, child toilet seat already set up on arrival was greatly welcomed and saved us having to pack additional items from home.

The facilities were spotless and everything was geared towards catering for families. The swimming pool, trampoline, converted camper van and playground were well utilised by our boys and kept them thoroughly entertained.

Huge thanks to Shahriar and Fernando in particular for looking after our needs at the pool cafe. They were attentive, professional and brilliant with the kids.

I'd thoroughly recommend staying at Martonhal Quinta and look forward to our next trip.
