Pine Cliffs Resort, nestled by a top-rated beach, boasts spacious rooms with stunning seaside views, though some reviewers mention outdated decor and unexpected charges. While the variety of amenities is appreciated, their high cost and the resort's tendency to get crowded can detract from the experience. Service quality appears to vary, receiving both commendations and criticisms, particularly regarding shuttle service.
Cleanliness is a strong point, with meticulous daily upkeep noted, albeit with a minor issue highlighted. The atmosphere elicits mixed feelings, with its charming Portuguese tiles and areas perceived as less homely.

My two teens, husband and I have just returned from a very special few days at Pine Cliffs. We stayed in a self catering terrace apartment right by the pool there. Everything was wonderful from the moment we arrived. Service throughout was impeccable and we felt thoroughly spoiled and looked after. Every little detail has been considered and it really does make it feel special. The facilities are great, something for everyone. My boys enjoyed swimming (despite it being overcast and 20c most days). We also did basketball, mini golf, table tennis and lots of lounging around and visiting the beach and surrounding areas. The setting is an absolute delight, the cliffs are stunning and must be viewed from every angle at various different times of day and night. Our apartment was huge, spotlessly clean and had everything we needed and more. Great kitchen, comfy beds, hot and powerful showers, storage for days and even a washing machine which we didn't use. I think the only thing to make it better would be possibly something to make it more homely in the living area, its quite bare and stark. It was cleaned daily, and as we were coming and going a lot we always seemed to overlap with them, which was slightly frustrating but not a big problem.
My only negative would be the price of the food at the onsite restaurants. Although the breakfast we did have was excellent, high quality and lots of it, it did cost us EUR 120 for one meal! Looking at the menus you could pay that per person for some of the dinner places. We ate in our apartment the rest of the time, and had three lunches and meals out at surrounding restaurants at a fraction of the price. If money is no object, or there's only two of you, enjoy!
Overall a fantastic experience. A beautiful place with friendly attentive staff and a really magical feel. Don't hesitate to book!

We stayed 8 nights at the hotel side of this huge complex, and loved it! The location is amazing, right by the Falesia Beach, which has just been named the most beautiful beach in the world by TA. And it’s indeed very beautiful. The hotel itself is wonderful, large and airy halls, superb gardens, lots of free parking. Really, the hotel grounds are incredible! The staff is very friendly. As Marriott Lifetime Platinum, we were upgraded to a duplex suite. Much appreciated! Breakfast was included, and it was delicious! Lots of choices, everything one could wish! The freshly squeezed orange juice went so well with the pasteis de nata! The breakfast restaurant during our stay was Jardim Colonial, but on Easter weekend they opened another room in their conference center to accommodate guests, very thoughtful. The hotel is very family friendly, there were lots of kids of all ages around. We would return in a heartbeat!

We spent 12 nights in Pinecliffs at the end of June / start of July. The resort is beautiful and extremely well kept and spotless. Facilities are great. We stayed in the townhouses near the entrance and the location was ideal as it was just a short walk to the supermarket for provisions as well as short walks to various pools, restaurants and gym. Our house was quite dated and a bit dark and drab in comparison to the house our friends stayed in. I understand that these are privately owned and it’s down to the owners to decorate so maybe it’s just the luck of the draw. The cleaners were amazing and we loved constantly having fresh towels etc.
We arrived late at night and would have appreciated a small welcome pack in the house. There wasn’t as much as a bottle of water for us. Everywhere else we have ever stayed there is usually water, a little tea / coffee to get you started and even more in some places. I brought this up with the resort in an email after and I was told we booked self catering and could have ordered a hamper if we wanted stuff provided. That’s not what we were looking for. We were perfectly happy to go shopping the next morning. Sometimes it’s the little touches that make all the difference. There are no little touches in Pinecliffs unless you pay for them and it’s very noticeable we felt.
From our first night, areas in the resort were closed for private events, weddings etc. No problem until the morning of the 29th/30th June when a cleaner handed us a letter saying due to a private function certain areas were being closed off to residents for 5 days effective immediately and with no notice. We were very disappointed that this included the pool our children liked best as well as the large garden area and the Champagne Bar which we then never got to visit. Upon speaking to staff at reception we were recommended to go to the Ocean Suites pool. It was quieter but nice and we enjoyed the pool bar there. The next day we returned and waited for the pool bar to open again as our kids loved to get a fruit juice daily. It never opened. We looked and it seemed there were no staff available to come take orders. It seems all the staff were taken to serve the private function and even though we were paying customers, the services and facilities we had paid for were not available to us. We feel we had paid full price for access to the whole resort yet large areas and facilities were closed to us for over 5 days and we were treated as second class citizens in order to prioritise the corporate clients.
As I said earlier the resort is beautiful and very well kept. The cleaners do an incredible job and were very nice. Personally, I liked the gym and found it excellent. The staff in Corda Cafe were very nice and great with kids. We ate in Steak Piri Piri our 2nd night but found it excessively expensive for an average quality meal.
In short, not what we expected from a 5 star resort which is a pity after waiting nearly 3 years to finally get there.

Dear 714karenp, First of all we would like to express our gratitude for the time taken to share with us your experience at the Pine Cliffs Resort. We are grateful for your comments in regards to the beauty of our resort and how well kept the grounds are. Plus, your kind mentioning of our hardworking housekeping team and our colleagues at the Corda-Cafe restaurant. However, we sincerely regret to learn that your stay with us did not meet your expectations. Please kindly note that to minimize impact, we concentrated the 3 day event all in one area in order to avoid any disappointments. We see this was not the case and for that we do sincerely apologize. Please be assured that all our guests’ comments are of extreme importance to the running of our operation. Your feedback has been since shared with our Management. As previously mentioned, we do truly hope that you will grant us another opportunity to welcome you back to our resort and please if so, do not hesitate to contact the Guest Relations Team directly so we can properly assist you and make sure that you have a more memorable experience. This beautiful hotel that has a wonderful setting to welcome visitors who love Portugal, local gastronomy and calm has definitely changed direction. Everything is built to earn even more money in all areas without any feedback for customers or respect. The main gym is now open to non-hotel customers and as the space is the same and no equipment has been added, it becomes impossible to practice sports in these conditions and Covid security is not respected. At the Pescatore pool, it is impossible to rest in the afternoon because the bartender (who makes his life) thinks he is in Miami beach and puts HIS music Boom Boom too loud and prevents customers from resting! When you pay for a room €400/day, you can hope to enjoy the calm of its terrace! Despite the ban on inflatable mattresses and other plastic buoys, no one enforces this instruction and it is impossible to swim quietly. Catering has become a luxury ex: 1 portion of sardine (typical dish) at the beach restaurant=30€. The Mirador bar has been enlarged by 25% and the prices too... The cleaning of the rooms is random and you have to ask for shower gel, shampoo and towels are pierced.
I will end by saying that there is no recognition for customers who have been coming for several years and it is not worthy of a hotel that claims to be 5 stars.

Dear Z1902GYpaulod, First of all, we would like to express our gratitude for the time taken to share with us your last experience at the Pine Cliffs Resort. As a valuable and loyal guest of the resort, we truly value your feedback. It is with much sorrow that we learn that your last visit was bellow of your expectations, due to the health club attendance, loud music, pool inflatables, food&beverage, as well as housekeeping service. This type of feedback is certainly not indicative of the luxury service that we strive to provide to our esteemed guests. In regard to your comments about COVID restrictions, kindly allow us to share that the legal restrictions in Portugal have been lifted. However, we remain committed to maintaining stringent safety measures, including the availability of hand sanitizers and the mandatory disinfection of equipment, both by our guests and our staff. Furthermore, we are deeply disappointed to hear about the inconveniences you encountered in the garden and pool areas, particularly the issues related to inflatables and excessive noise. Rest assured that your feedback will be diligently shared with our staff to reinforce the prohibition of inflatables and to actively address noise reduction measures. Your experience of our restaurants and housekeeping services is also disappointing to read. We value your input and will promptly share your comments with all appropriate departments to ensure a more enjoyable stay for our guests. In conclusion, we would be honored to have the privilege of welcoming you back in the future, with the hope of creating a more positive and unforgettable impression. To facilitate a more enjoyable stay during your next visit, please do not hesitate to contact our team directly at guest.relations@pinecliffs.com. It will be our pleasure to be at your service. This is not a 5 star hotel. It might have the rating but not the treatment. When you pay this rate per night and a hotel claims luxury collection you would think some touches of a 5 star would be there. On arrival be prepared to be received by staff that only speaks English and not the native language of the country. No welcome drink or help offered with bags. Card system towel seen in most 3 star resorts rather than a simple way to provide towels to guests. Once we got to our room, yes it’s cleaned and beautifully decorated but be prepared to be received by absolutely nothing in your bedroom. They try to make it sound fancy and have a card on the table “build your own mini bar” with prices such as 4 € for a small bottle of water or 11 euros for mini bottle of gin but it’s all a way to hide and not provide another basic service provided by most 5 stars: a daily replacement of basic drinks included in the price of the room. No vanity kits or any basics in your toilet apart from shampoo, conditioner and moisturiser (everyone offers this nowadays). Again for the price you have no vanity kit, no shaving kit, nothing but a nice message showing “if you choose to take this there’s a charge of 45€ per bottle”.This is seen hanged in the moisturiser bottle. This message feels tacky and not what a guest wants to see in bathroom of a “luxury” hotel. Our room had a door connecting to another room even though we requested a double room. Apparently most rooms are like this to allow for families. If everything I said wasn’t bad enough, after I complained there was not privacy and I could literally hear everything other people were saying in the room next door, I was offered no other alternative. In fact, I spoke to 3 different members of staff who said I’ll call you back and never did. When I rang again I was told if I wanted to sort out this situation I would have to go the reception and bring everything (luggage) with me. Again no offer helped, no sympathy, nothing. We were then offered a room when we went back to reception with no connecting door but a twin bed which we were promised to be changed to a double but no one ever came. Hotel is overcrowded, including beach area. It feels again like you are in a 3 star resort. No space, noisy and 0 attention to detail. Most 5 stars with a beach provide drinks service or comfort. This again feels like a cheap resort. Overall I think they rely on people that keep coming back and don’t know any better or are simply members. Any person that stayed in other 5 star hotels can see this is nothing but a place with a name, built in a past that I believe might have been prosperous but now has nothing to offer. Now is just another resort for the masses, where you pay luxury but are treated with absolute disregard. There’s many nice hotels in the Algarve. Please research and don’t waste your money.

Dear L711CHadrianac, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay at Pine Cliffs, a Luxury Collection Resort. We are genuinely sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. We strive to offer a blend of luxury and environmental consciousness. Our approach to amenities, including luxury cosmetics and minibar options on request, is designed to minimize waste while catering to individual preferences. We provide a coffee set upon arrival and replenish water bottles and the tea set daily to ensure your comfort throughout your stay. I understand that the peak season can bring a bustling atmosphere, particularly in a family resort like ours. This high occupancy sometimes limits our ability to offer immediate room changes, especially when specific configurations are requested. I regret that this impacted your experience, and we are continually working to improve our guest services and manage the busy periods effectively. We take pride in our diverse and multicultural team, which includes both native Portuguese speakers and international staff who are learning Portuguese to better serve our guests. Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels welcomed and well taken care of. We genuinely value your feedback as it helps us to grow and enhance the experience for all our guests. Should you choose to return, please reach out to guest.relations@pinecliffs.com, we would love to personally assist in making your next visit exceptional and ensuring that you enjoy all the wonderful aspects of our resort. Thank you again for your insights, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Warm regards, Guest Relations Team

I will start by saying that we only booked this 2 days before arriving, so perhaps didn’t do enough research. But below are the things I would have liked to have known:
- the room: we had a 2 bed apartment; layout was perfect for family of 4, but it was honestly like stepping into a time warp - the room hasn’t been touched since the 80s; eg think tape player as the music offering! There were none of the usual things I’d expect from a 5 star resort - no bathrobes, no tv’s in bedrooms or welcome information pack etc. it was like we were staying in an elderly aunt’s house!
- the pools. This is what I find the strangest thing; the resort is huge with pools everywhere, but none of them are heated! This being October, we thought we were gambling with the weather, but I thought as long as the kids were happy in the pool, we’d get a chance to chill & read a book. Not the case - every pool was empty & as a result people were just hanging around unsure of what to do with their day. I can’t emphasise enough how cold the water is (the sea is also freezing!) They do offer a heated indoor pool, but you have to wear a swimming cap for some reason (which you have to buy) & obviously my teen wouldn’t dream of doing that!
- the cost. You have to pay for EVERYTHING here. No free water & most kids activities come at a cost. We booked room only & breakfast in the very mediocre buffet was €120 a day for our family.
I’ve heard people talk highly of Pine Cliffs, so thought it would be a safe bet, but we just didn’t ’get it’. Perhaps we’ve been spoilt on other holidays, but this just felt like a very dated, dull offering. I should also add that we’re not golfers; perhaps that’s where we went wrong!

Dear DottyTraveler, Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your recent experience at Pine Cliffs, a Luxury Collection Resort! We are glad to know that the layout of your apartment suited your family well, and we appreciate your feedback on areas where you feel we can enhance the guest experience. Our property is unique, offering a variety of accommodation styles and room layouts to cater to different preferences, from more modern rooms to those with a classic design for a homier feel. We understand that this can sometimes surprise guests who may be expecting something else, and your feedback is valuable as we continue to evolve. Regarding the pools, October weather can indeed be unpredictable, and while we have multiple pools to suit various tastes, only the indoor pool is heated. We know some guests are less accustomed to the swim cap requirement, but this policy is in place to maintain hygiene standards for everyone’s comfort. We also hear your feedback on pricing for meals and activities. We offer a range of options, including flexible accommodation types, dining plans, and activities, allowing guests to personalize their experience to fit different needs and preferences. Our goal is to provide variety and quality, and we are always looking at ways to improve the experience based on feedback like yours. Thank you again for taking the time to share your perspective, and we would love to welcome you back so we can help you discover even more of what makes our resort special. Warmest Regards, Guest Relations Team

I believe is one of the most amazing resorts I’ve ever been. Nothing to complain, the apartment is amazing, everything in good order, I couldn’t find any faults.Even if we are far away from the beach (30 minutes walk) you could call for a shuttle to take you over, so nothing to complain. However I did not agree with the hotel to charge you for the coffee inside the room, everywhere where I went in a holiday around the globe , no hotel charge for it. Working with hotel industry in London makes the resort looking that they want to make money from everything and not respecting them guests. So this is a big minus from us. Regarding the housekeeping, the blinds could be hoovered so when you checked in you don’t need to have scared kids because of the spiders, also I did put the card on the bed , so the bed linen to be changed after 5 days , however they decide to ignore it. I’ve read about people complaining about the restaurants inside the resort been very pricey, however we did enjoy the food almost in all of them except the one which is a buffet style and is not worth to spend your money for it. Overall a good resort with really nice restaurants, pools, beach, lots of activities and friendly staff.

We stayed at the Pine Cliffs Hotel for 10 days in May, with half board in one of the Deluxe/Ocean View rooms. This was our third holiday at the Pine Cliffs. In the first week we visited the Smooth Jazz Festival on the hotel grounds and also played some sports. Overall, we were happy with the hotel again, especially the friendly restaurant service - Joao in the O Grill, Felipe in the O Pescador, Susana in the Piri Piri, to name just a few -, the beautiful room with its view, furnishings and cleanliness (room 198) and the cliff location with the sensational beach. We would still like to mention a few things that we didn't like so much this time: We had the impression that the creativity of the kitchen at the O Grill had decreased considerably. Guests who only stay for 3 nights won't notice this, but a lot of things are repeated on a longer stay. The quality of the food at the O Grill has also decreased - with the exception of the fish! - , in contrast, it was much better in O Pescador and Piri Piri, but also only available with a large additional payment to the half-board rate. We also understood that - although you have your credit card validated when you check in - separate credit card validations are also necessary for reservations in the hotel restaurants (!) with reservation recommendations in order to be able to react in the event of a no-show. I think that is completely excessive for a hotel of this category, and after a lengthy discussion with the concierge we did not accept it. The hotel management should align its system with the guests and not with a process that is justified in external restaurants, but not when the hotel restaurant has all the guest's data and can also contact them if they are actually late. In addition, the hotel restaurants were never fully booked in May. So, overall still a "very good", but it is still not good enough for a better rating.

I’ve had my eye on a visit to this hotel for a while & finally managed to fit a 5 day stay in on our recent road trip from Scotland to Portugal. What a superb hotel, well exceeded our expectations & was great value for us as all 5 nights were on points. Would we have paid £500 a night which was the rack rate when there, absolutely not & it’s not worth that. A visit earlier in the year when it’s cheaper would likely suit us better price wise and there would be fewer families!!!! To be expected in July though.
This is one massive complex with 3 accommodation offerings. We stayed in the hotel which we loved & were upgraded to a grand deluxe room due to being MB Titanium members. We did though have a lengthy wait to check in & it was nearly 4pm before we got into our room but we did arrive a little early. We opted for the free breakfast welcome gift. Our room was spacious & so comfortable with an amazing balcony. We asked to overlook the front entrance to avoid bugs from greenery in other areas & this was granted. Large bathroom with superb walk in shower & a bath, great air con & nice lounge area in the room.
Breakfast choice & quality was good but it was chaotic with the many kids running around but the outdoor seating area was very nice. We had breakfast at the Residence which was far calmer & overlooked a much nicer pool than those at the hotel.
What we loved was the virtual ‘on demand’ shuttle by buggy or bus that was there to take you anywhere around the resort. Did not expect this at all.
Pools in the hotel are small & lounging areas are on the grass which we don’t like. The Residence pool was much more 5* in appearance, comfort & set up so would highly recommend going there. It would be so much nicer if the hotel catered for ‘adults only’ around the hotel. Yes you can be a family hotel but you can also make us adults feel special too. Why not have an adults only pool & breakfast area & make the champagne bar for adults only too? It would be a far nicer experience.
We didn’t dine in the evenings in the hotel due to the extortionate pricing of their wine. Food seemed reasonable but wines started at around €45. You could get a meal plus wine for that at the restaurants just outside the hotel complex & they were decent. I have to say though that the champagne bar setting & ambience was magical especially when the jazz player was on. Such a special place & a real memory for us.
Hope to be back soon in the shoulder months.

We had a family holiday to Pone Cliffs in June 2024 a d having read and researched the resort I was somewhat looking forward to the teip, but underwhelming describes the experience, let alone the questionable cost for the weeks stay.
There is no doubt t the location of the resort is one of pure beauty, this cannot be argued.
Staff wise I found those working by the pool were attentive and offered an excellent servoxe, those front of house not quite as much.
After a few days if being in the Town House it became apparent that there was a slight smell of damp in the property, which soon compromised our clothing.
We placed a call with reception to explain the issue and requested for a dehumidifier to resolve the issue but we were advised reception couldn't assist and advised on "airing" the property by leaving doors and windows open, which quite frankly was ridiculous as we had plans every day.
Repeat this cycle every day with numerous calls and visits to reception and nothing was done and , despite a request, no escalation to a manager.
However on the penultimate day we were offered a room switch, at this stage pointless.
During this I was advised that the cleaners had not reported a smell of damp from the property but they could go and check , I questioned the point if none of them had agreed previously with the smell.
I was advised it was highly likely to be a damp issue.
However on investigation, by myself as I foolishly thought staff would do this, I established that both showers showed signs of significant leakage at the shower screens areas. When I advised reception staff I simply got an "oh" would you like the cleaners to check!!
Very disappointed at the "Luxury" self branding of the resort.
Having never stayed in a 5 Star Resort hugely disappointed and have stayed in far better 4 star hotels. In addition the property was far from clean and looked very tired and dirty.
For me I certainly would not be rushing back to Pine Cliffs as the resort is looking tired and in need of a makeover.

I don't remember a kiddy pool with a slide but every one of the pools is packed to the brim with noisy kids so almost every pool is the kiddies pool. This place is so huge and busy I think there is about 8-10 pools in total. They give you a map when you get there
Hi
We actually flew into Faro airport and as part of our vacation package a coach took us to Pine Cliffs.
I think Lisbon airport is some distance from the south coast.
Hi
Yes indeed there is. Directly outside the front of the hotel there are a couple of places to eat but we only had drinks there. If you head right once leaving the hotel from the main entrance there are several options. We ate twice around there and both meals were very nice and good value.
We were only there 3 nights.
The day we arrived our room wasnt quite ready so we went down to the hotels bar on the beach while. I forget what it was called. We just had a couple of chicken wraps and beer/wine etc
I thought it was poor value for money. It wasnt expensive comparing to UK prices but compared to quality and prices outside the hotel it was. When you go down the lift onto the beach where the said bar is, to the right you can see another almost identical bar around 400 Metres which is where we went for a day time tipple and maybe a sandwhich.
Have a great time, Its a great hotel. Breakfast was totally fine by the way.
It would make sense if you could but they never offered.
We booked with JET2 and it was an option with them.
We tend to only eat twice a day on holiday, and like to wander out of the grounds.
Of coursef your looking to fly and flop and just enjoy the hotel grounds I can see why you would.
