My family stayed for 5 nights in July and it was a magical experience. It's beautifully secluded up in the hills and a little difficult to find (go to the website and click on the map to use google maps to find it easily).
This was our third visit to the Kapsaliana and it won't be out last, it's everything you could wish for if your after a lovely peaceful retreat. The staff as always are amazing and nothing is too much trouble for any of them.
My husband and I visited Kapsaliana for a week at the end of June. We were after total relaxation in a remote hideaway and the hotel did not disappoint. The sensitive and imaginative restoration of this old Cretan hill village is, quite simply, breathtaking. The...More

A truly beautiful hotel, very relaxed, wonderful architecture and planting. A sanctuary to relax. Great pool, staff and delicious food. I couldn't recommend it more. Rooms are spacious and cool. St in the hills, great view of beautiful Crete.

From the Kapsaliana Village Hotel you can cross the island to the south coast through the Amari valley which is a very nice drive. You will end op whether in Spili or even in Aghia Galini which is close to Phaestos and Matala. It takes maybe a bit longer then when you pass from Rethymnon but it is worthwhile. You need 1 1/2 hour more or less.
